Chapter 6 And then, Robots
Sammy's PoV**************************************
I yawned big as I rubbed my head on the soft, fluffy thing under my head. I didn't wanna get up, but my tummy started growling. My eyes opened to see Big Brother slumped over in his chair, sleeping. He was shaking and wetness was all over his cheeks, which was weird. I thought I was the only one who got wetness on their cheeks. Big Brother's eyes finally opened and I was so happy that I jumped to give him a hug. Unfortunately, the chair he was in wasn't strong enough and fell. "Hungy." I whined, pawing at his shoulder. "Food."
He pushed me off him in order to sit up. "So, you're hungry, huh?" Big Brother ruffled my hair and reached into his pocket to get… a shiny rectangle? My confusion must have shown on my face because he laughed. "It's a granola bar. It's good." He peeled off the shiny stuff to show a brown thingy. Big Brother Danny gave the thingy to me and I started to eat it. Mmmm…crunchy…
As I ate my rectangle, I watched Danny work around the room, making it so it looked like we were never there. I ate until I felt something weird in my tummy. Walking up to Big Brother, I tugged on his arm and said one thing.
"Potty?"
Why did Big Brother's face go so pale?
Robin's PoV***********************************************
"So, what happened with the break in last night?" I asked, immediately getting groans from all around.
"Oh, God, it was horrible!" Beast Boy exclaimed. "When we get there, there were no signs of a break in, so we had to get Raven to phase us through the wall. Then, we find this kid inside, so we try and scare the guy, freak him out so he wouldn't do the crime again. But then, he disappears!" He yelled, flailing his arms around, which caused the girls to press themselves to the sides of the T-car.
"Disappeared?" I asked, suspicions beginning to form. "As in, he turned invisible?"
"Yeah!" Cyborg shouted. "One moment, the kid was trying to talk us into letting him go, the next he was gone! I managed to spot him with my heat vision, but then he went through the doors and poof! Gone for good."
"I checked with the store this morning to see what had been stolen." Raven informed us with her monotone. "They told me that the only things missing were from the clothing department, the food department, and two backpacks. From the missing clothes, haft of them were for young girls, so he was telling the truth about having a little sister."
"We have to find this kid." I told them, convinced of who it was.
"We don't have to."
"Why not, Raven?"
"Because we just passed him."
And then, the T-car was hit by a giant bolder.
Danny's PoV**********************************************
I automatically grabbed Sammy and ran towards an ally. "Stay here!" I told her, before rushing back into the screaming crowd of citizens. The only thought in my head was to get all the normal out of there without any casualties. 'Stupid hero complex.' I cursed at myself as I ran. I glanced at the T-car, which was only inches away from having hit two guys who'd been out walking. My eyes turned to the villain in the situation—a blonde in some kind of metal/bondage outfit—just as she tossed another boulder, this time aimed at the two guys.
My first slammed into the incoming rock, shattering it into a hundred pieces. 'Whoa…used a bit too much strength…' I thought as I glared at the angry—yet pretty—girl in front of me.
"Get out of the way or I'll crush you!" She snarled. I glanced behind me to see the two guys still frozen in fear and the Teen Titans trying to get out of their crushed car. Internally, I groaned.
"Not when you're inches away from hitting innocents along with the Titans." I retaliated. "You've got something against them, I get it. I'm not their biggest fan either—"
"You know nothing!" She screamed. Such a temper. She threw a huge piece of road at me, far too big to break. Without hesitation, I turned myself and the guys still frozen behind me invisible and intangible, before getting the hell out of there. Let the heroes deal with the crazy chick.
I led the two idiots, as I have dubbed them for not moving, into the ally where Sammy was, dropping invisibility once there. Sammy jumped out with a cry and latched herself around my neck as I turned to get a good look at the idiots. One was very pale, with black markings on the side of his face. His hair was, oddly enough, grey, his eyes were bluer than mine, and he was wearing all black. The other was a pissed off red head with large green eyes and an all green outfit. The red head was the one who spoke first.
"What. The. Hell!?" He whined while weakly pounding my chest, using an extremely high, fake voice. "You didn't have to save us, you know! You're not the only metahuman around…hey…you're kinda cute…"
The grey haired boy slapped the back of Red's head. "Forgive my boyfriend; he's thinking with his lower brain. Thank you for saving our lives, even though it was a bit unnecessary. He is Cornelius Montgomery, and my name is Kevicorl'dor, but, please call me Kevin."
"Pleasure to meet you." I nodded at them, more conserved about what Cornelius had said. "I'm Danny Grayson, and this is my sister Sammy. I'm sorry, but did he say—"
"That we're metas? Yeah, we are." Kevin glanced around nervously. "Look, can we talk about this somewhere else? Cory and I really wouldn't want this info to reach the normal's ears. They'd probably—"
"Force you into being heroes? I know the feeling." I smiled sadly as I thought of how supportive Tucker and Sam were of my heroing habit. There were some days that I just wanted to quit, and they were the only ones keeping me going. "You mind if we come with you? We're new to the city and would prefer if the Titans didn't find us after that stunt."
"Oh, so your runaways?" Cory appeared right in front of me with his attempt of a seductive smile. In reality, he looked sick in the stomach. "Don't you worry sweetlings. Cory and Kevin's Home for the Homeless is open to all metas!" His hands drifted uncomfortably towards my crotch.
BAM! Next thing we knew, Cory was on the ground twitching, and Kevin was wiping blood off his fist. "We'd be happy to let you stay with us!" He said with a smile before reaching down and grabbing one of Cory's feet to drag. "Shall we?"
As we walked down the street, Sammy, who was riding on my back, asked me a question. "Big Brother," she whispered. "Why Kevy do that to Cory?"
"Because Kevy has Cory completely whipped." I answered at regular volume, laughing at the shout of denial from Cory and the smirk coming from Kevin. We soon reached what looked like a small shop, only with the sign 'Homeless Shelter' on it. Going inside, it looked like someone (probably Cory) had randomly splattered light blue and dark green paint all around the room and furniture. It was filled with picnic tables and plants, with a reception desk in the back of the room. After we were inside, Kevin dropped Cory's leg and let him get up.
"Welcome to our humble abode!" Cory exclaimed while twirling around the room. "Over there is a hallway to some rooms with beds—two per room." He pointed to a hallway left of the desk, then at a door right of it. "And that's where the kitchen is. You can stay however long you want with no cost! Any questions?"
"Yeah. Could you tell me what kind of metas you are?" I asked, not really expecting to be answered. I mean, who tells their greatest secret to a dude you just met? "I like to know who I'm living with before moving in."
"No problem." Apparently, these guys. Kevin jumped slightly and, suddenly, he was flying. "I'm an alien from the plant Tameran. I ran away from home when my eldest sister was rejected from our planet for being unable to fly. These marks," He tapped the tattoos on the side of his face. "Show that I have betrayed our people and can only come home if the Emperor explicitly says so. In your language, my name means 'Foxfire'."
"And I!" Cory twirled around again and all the plants started to grow into monstrous sizes. "Am the son of Mother Nature herself!" His skin began to turn green and his eyes orange. "I am… Sassafras!"
"Well, that was…flamboyant." I shook my head at his antics before I placed Sammy on a table and took off her hat. The two gasped at the purple cat ears on the top of her head. "Sammy was… a genetic experiment. I saved her last night and am not letting her go."
Kevin reached down and lifted Sammy into his arms. She sighed, content, and buried her face in his shoulder. "She's so small…" He murmured, cupping her head in a motherly way. "What about you?" Kevin asked, his big, blue eyes looking my way, filled with fear at the thought of whatever horror I'd been through.
"Can I trust you?" I asked back, unsure about telling them my greatest secret.
"Yes." Cory replied without hesitation. "We already have told you our secrets. You can trust us with yours."
I took a deep, calming breath as I lightly tapped into the cold center inside me that held my ghost form. Two rings appeared at my waist and separated, replacing my all black outfit with my equally black Hazmat suit. My raven hair bleached into a blinding white and my once blue eyes glowed an unearthly green. "I'm haft ghost."
The reaction was immediate. Kevin and Cory became paler—or, in Cory's case, less green—and gasped. Kevin looked at me with, oddly enough, mother like worry, while Cory looked like a five year old on Christmas. "You mean, you're haft dead!?" Kevin exclaimed. "Oh, you poor boy!"
That's when a dozen robots broke through the front windows.
