(A.N.) Sorry for the wait; finished all my mid-term papers and now I can finally get back into the grove of writing fiction, which makes me very excited. At long last we finally come to the big time skip! I apologize to any MalonxLink fans out there for killing her off, but it needed to be done.

*Sigh* I wish you guys would have at least tried to guess my bunnies. The graduation speech is from Castle, and the symbol on the leather-bound book is the Gerudo symbol.

The Green Knight: A Hero is Born

Chapter Six – Rebirth

[Seven Years Later]

[Hyrule General Hospital] – [Saria]

"Saria…"

I turned around to see Dr. Collins slowly approaching me. I noticed the clip board in his hand before meeting his eyes. "Has he said anything?" I croaked, suddenly finding my throat tightening. I knew my eyes were red and puffy; they'd been that way ever since I got the news that I could finally see my son.

"He's barely said anything since he woke up." Dr. Collins replied in a soft voice.

I turned away from him and looked through the small rectangular glass window on the door. I swallowed hard and felt tears build up as I stared at his back. Link was looking out of the large glass window that give him a perfect view of downtown Hyrule and the city itself.

"Saria, twenty percent of his body is covered in scar tissue. Second degree burns are on his back and arms…and x-rays show at least twelve fractures that haven't properly healed."

I wanted to tune him out, I couldn't handle listening to Dr. Collins telling me how much my son had suffered; how much he was stuff suffering. I sucked in some air and tried to calm myself down as my hand slowly reached up and touched the handle of the door.

"Saria."

I sighed and looked at Dr. Collins.

He reached up and gently touched my arm. "I want you to prepare yourself; the Link you once lost may not be the one they found…"

[Link]

Hyrule City…it looks so different now. I could almost see its entirety as I stared outside the large window of the hospital room I was in. I couldn't believe it had been seven years since I was marooned on that island. I can still remember...

I clenched my fist into tight balls, though remained as calm and composed as I could be on the outside. I had grieved enough on that island, it was time to act now.

I suddenly heard the door opened I momentarily tensed up. I took an easy breath and calmed myself down. I need to try and act like my old self.

The door closed and I could hear her footsteps slowly approach me. I looked up out the window again and say her reflection in the mirror. I could literally feel my heart clench and tighten as a torrent of emotions began to build up inside me.

"Link?" Saria said hesitantly.

I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath before turning around. My mother looked as beautiful as the day I had left home. Her hair was shorter than I remember, but that was only thing different. She was dressed in a very business-like manner.

"Mom." I replied softly.

I walked towards her and we met in a tight embrace.

"Oh, my beautiful boy!" She exclaimed as she kissed my cheek and then hugged me even harder.

I had to remain in the hospital for another day before I could be released and allowed to return home with my mother. She spent the next few hours explaining to me what all happened after I had been declared dead. She had gotten a job at Kokiri Industries and told me how Mr. Kokiri himself started to visit her and spend time with her. Over the course of a few years they became close. I couldn't believe it when she showed me her wedding ring.

"Mom, you got married!" I exclaimed.

It was better than the reaction she was expecting, but I was honest with her when I said that trusted her judgment and only wanted what made her happy. I'm not sure I would ever get used to the idea that my mother was now the CEO of Kokiri Industries and her husband – who, until he married my foster mother was the CEO, was now the CFO. More importantly, I meant that I had just inherited an insane amount of money. Now, I was never one for money, and the new me wanted to stay that way. But it was a relief to know that I would have plenty of money to fund my plans. At least until I could find a job. Perhaps my mother could help me find a job within the company.

But wasn't all the news. Mido was married with a daughter, however his wife died from an illness of cancer.

So now I've got a step-father and a step-sister?

Her name was Anna and her eighteenth birthday was in November, only two months away.

My mother left the hospital explaining that she would return shortly with some clothes for me to wear once we left the hospital the following morning. It was a relief to finally be able to wear something normal besides the tattered clothing I had to wear on the island.

The next day we exited the hospital and into a magnificent black Bentley Mulsanne that belonged to my mother. Mr. Jason Stewart, my mother's driver, had already loaded the only belonging I had brought back with me: a large rectangular moldy-green chest whose contents weren't something I wanted anybody to see…ever.

Which is exactly why I can't allow anyone to handle it once we reach home.

It started to rain, and I watched as the small droplets trickled down the tinted glass window next to lights and tall buildings soon drifted by until we took the highway ramp and exited the city. About fifteen minutes later we pulled into a very long driveway that wrapped around an extravagant garden in an S shape. The car pulled around the last curve and then came to a slow and gentle stop outside the front door underneath a large, stone canopy held up by four round pillars.

My hand immediately went for the door handle, however it was opened before I could do it myself. I got out of the car and went to the trunk just as it was being opened; the large stone canopy around us blocked the rainfall. Jason went to reach for my chest but I was able to stop him before he could manage to pull it out.

"I've got it." I said to him.

I may have come off a bit cold, which would explain why I felt – and saw – his hand jerk back. I hadn't meant to come off like that, it was just in my nature now.

"Of course, sir." He said, backing away slowly.

I followed my mother and the woman I had seen earlier up the large stone steps and through the front door.

My mother took a deep sigh and walked further into the foyer. A round elegant marble table sat in the center of the room. Plush Persian carpet blanketed the hardwood floor. I placed the chest in my hand down as I looked around the room.

I was in complete awe with my surroundings. Two staircases were on either side of me, leading up to what I had to guess was the right and left wing of this mansion.

"Link!" A man suddenly called.

I turned my attention from a remarkable piece of art work hanging on one of the walls to see a tall, broad man with slick blonde hair dressed in a three piece grey suite approach me. He walked up to me and stuck out his hand. I eyed it for a moment before slowly extending my own.

"Sweetheart?" I heard my mother say. "This is Mido." SHe walked closer to him and placed her hand gently on his arm.

I looked from my mother to Mido and smiled. "It's nice to meet you, Mido. I'm so glad my mother has been taken such good care of by you."

He returned me a smile and let go of my hand. "I love your mother very much," he glanced at her, "that's why I married her." He said with a smile

He had a heavy British accent.

I stared into his eyes, trying to get a read on him. What was his angle, if he had one?

"Emilia, here, can show you to your room." My mother said as a woman suddenly entered from the right.

"Hello, Mr. Link." She said kindly, giving me a smile.

I smiled back and walked over to her. "It's wonderful to meet you, Emilia." I said.

A door suddenly opened and closed, and I looked up to see a young, blonde haired girl suddenly appear at the top of the left-hand staircase. She looked right at me, her eye wide and face frozen with what I could only assume was shock.

"Link?" She asked hesitantly. She carefully edged towards the stairs, unsure of what to do.

"Hello Anna." I said kindly. I always wondered what it would be like to have a sister. But for some reason I didn't really care about that. It seemed like all my mind could think about was how to save Hyrule; if it needed saving at all. Nevertheless I would do my part to be there for my family. I needed to be strong for them.

But, if Hyrule didn't need to be saved, then what was there left for me? How would start over? I wouldn't even know where to begin…

A smile grew on Anna's face and she quickly ran down the flight of stairs and gave me a hug. The action threw me off guard, but I recovered quickly; smiling and returning her hug.

"Your mom's told me so much about you, I feel like I've known you for years." She said with a chuckle. Her eyes slowly began to turn red.

Is she…crying?

"Then I guess it's my turn to learn about you, what do you say?" I asked.

She chuckled again while wiping a few small tears from her eyes. "Sounds like a plan."

"Anna, dear, why don't you show Link to his room? I'm sure he would enjoy a nice shower before lunch." My mother suggested.

"That sounds like a great idea." I said with a smile.

"Here you are." Anna said, stopping at a set of wooden double-doors. She opened one and walked inside. I followed closely behind her with my belongings in hand. It was a very large bedroom in the southeastern part of the estate. Lavished rugs and furniture of various sizes filled the room, and a majestic four poster bed was positioned along the center of the left hand side of the room, with the head-board against the wall. A large mahogany dresser sat several feet in front of me next to a glorious multi-paned window overlooking a wondrous garden with a stone fountain. The sight was truly breathtaking.

"It's amazing." I said, turning back to her from the window.

"Good, I'm glad you like it." She replied. "Meet you downstairs for lunch?"

"Yeah." I said, turning back to the window. "I'll be down soon." I replied.

I heard Anna leave, and my mind continued to replay everything that happened to me in the past seven years. It was like there was an instant replay function in my head that I couldn't shut off.

Was this really my new life? I wondered. How will I ever get used to a life like this? But then I remember what I promised myself after I was rescued. I locked the door behind me and laid my chest down flat just decide the bed. I turned the dials of an alphanumeric lock that held the chest shut. I waited for the unmistakable click the lock made after it was opened, and when it came I slowly opened the chest up.

I opened up the large, thick piece of clothing that covered the inner contents, stopping when I saw a glint of light. I slowed my movements down until the cloth covering now hung over the edges of the chest.

Inside rested an elegant looking long-sword that was double-edged. Its grip was purple and the guard was blue. Hylian Eagle wings protruded from the hand-guard; the tips of each wing fanned outward.

I gently picked it up and placed it aside. I then removed the cloth covering completely to reveal a short, recurve-style looking bow. I picked it up by the grip with my right hand and spun it around to its opposite side; examining it closely. I noticed a notch just underneath one of the fiberglass hand guards and remembered that less than a month ago it saved my life. Now it would save the city.

I showered and dressed myself in a pair of khaki jeans, a light blue button down shirt and a dark V-neck zip-up sweater over top. Next to my wardrobe was a large wooden dresser that came up to my waist. The surface was decorated with pictures of me. From when Saria first adopted me all the way until graduation...

I felt my throat tighten when I saw a picture with Zelda, Sheik and myself. I clenched my teeth, and even balled my left hand into a fist, all to keep myself composed. I won't break.

"You leave the city for five days and look what happens."

I recognize that voice.

A small smile tugged at the corner of my lip, and I slowly turned around to see Sheik standing by the open door.

"Sheik Saber." I said, my smile broadened as we came in for a hug. I suddenly felt my knees go weak. Am a dream? I wondered. Or am I really hugging my best friend...my best friend? I don't have a best friend. I haven't for seven years.

My resolve returned and we broke off. Sheik grinned and placed a hand on my shoulder. "Buddy, we've got a lot of catching up to do!"

"More potatoes, Mr. Link?" Emilia asked politely.

I looked over at her and smiled. "No, thank you. And please, call me 'Link'."

Emilia smiled and nodded before walking over to Sheik. I glanced over at Saria to see Mido and her sharing a light laugh while he poured some wine into her glass.

I had never known Saria to be a drinker, what could have changed that?

"I can't wait to get you out into the city." Sheik said excitedly while cutting into his steak. "We've got so much to catch up on – we should go into the city tomorrow!" He said, suddenly turning even more excited.

To be honest I could care less. I wasn't really in any mood to have some fun. I wanted to get to work, fast. And that meant I needed to a hideout.

"That's sounds like a lot of fun." Anna said with a nod.

I suppose a trip into the city wouldn't be totally useless. I could use this opportunity to see what's been going on while I've been away.

"Yeah, sounds good to me." I said, trying to sound happy about the situation.

[Unknown POV]

"Sir? The boy…he…well, you see – "

"I already know the situation." A man interrupted. He was seated in a black leather desk chair. Moonlight poured into the dark room through the glass window the seated man was staring out of. In the corner, a large flat-screen was turned on to the channel six news station, the major story was about the incident seven years ago: when a local yacht carrying several Hyrule Central High School students, a few faculty and the boat workers.

So…he's alive, is he? Interesting…very interesting…
