Chan's Pov.
We had been running for only a short while when I spotted a man and his family down the road fighting off some zombies. We ran to help them. When he spotted us he started yelling and waving at us to help. As we got closer, the sound of a shotgun went off. That brought our attention to a group of zombies swarming some people.
"You guys help these people. I'm going to go help them." I told the others. "Got it." Weston said as I ran to the surrounded survivors. I was about half way to them when some came from in front of me and blocked my path. I slashed at them and killed them easily, the whole time that gun had been shooting. I looked toward the survivors and saw they were running to a house. One of them ran up to the house several moments after.
Looking to where he had run from I saw the zombies start to pile down near the ground. I knew that they were probably eating somebody. Just behind them I could see a young man standing there as some started to go at him. I started running toward him. Shots went off as I ran forward. There were two left when I got near. The man had got his weapon stuck in in one's head and couldn't get it free.
I ran up to them as the man backed into a fence, closing his eyes waiting for them to kill him. I took a large swing at the zombies and cut them in two, spraying their blood all over the man. He opened his eyes looking where the zombies had been and then looked up at me. He squinted his eyes to get a better look at me. Seeing my shadow on his body I could tell the sun probably was blinding him a bit.
I reached out my arm and asked "Are you ok?" He gripped my hand and I pulled him up. "Yeah, a little shaken up though." "Being left without a weapon with some right there can do that to you." "Well yeah, but that's not what caused it." He said looking at a parsley eaten body. "Someone close to you?" I asked. "My father." "I'm sorry for your loss." I said; sympathy in my voice.
The other people from the house came over to us. "Ben, are you alright?" a young woman asked. "Yeah, fine." "Good, can't have you die on me yet. I hardly know these people." She said. "And thank you for saving him." "No problem. It's what we have to do now." "Yeah. Names Sam." She said putting out her hand. "Chan." I replied shaking her hand. "As in, Sensei Chan?" a man asked. "Yes, why?" "Dad!" came from behind us. I looked back to see Rebecca running to us.
Sam's Pov.
"Dad!" a young girl yelled out as she ran toward us. Greg hesitantly said "Re.. Rebecca?" before he started running to her. They hugged when they both got to each other. "Is that his daughter?" I asked. "Yeah, I can't believe she's alive." Ben said before he and I walked over to them. "I'm so glad you're alive. I was so worried." Greg said to her. "I'm glad too." She opened her eyes and looked around. "Where's mom?" she asked.
Greg looked down at the ground and said "She didn't make it. I… I had to…" "I know. I had to do it too." She said to him sympathetically. She started to cry a bit, but seemed to hold it back well. Greg turned to the man who saved Ben, Chan I think, and said "Thank you for keeping my daughter safe." "Don't thank me; it was her skill with a katana that kept her alive." he said. "Still, thank you."
Soon we walked over to the where the family we saved were; only now there were more people with them. "Don't worry, they're with me." "Hi, pleased to meet you. The name's Kevin." a tall man said to us. "Anna." "Weston." The other man and woman followed. After we had gotten introductions finished, we started walking down the street.
Ben suddenly stopped. "Wait, what about the others? How do we know if they got out?" "Others? Did they have vehicles?" the man named Weston asked. "Yeah, why?" "I think I saw some parked by the side of the highway. Old car and a pickup I think." "That's them. Come on, we got to hurry." We continued to walk down the street.
When we got to the highway we looked down both ways. "There." I said pointing to our left. The others turned to see Ben's car and Ted's pickup. We walked over to the vehicles as fast and as quiet as we could. When we got there the others came over to see us. Ben ran up to his mom and gave her a hug. She looked around after and asked "Where's your father?" "I tried to help him, but they got him before I could save him. The last thing he told me was to save myself."
She started to cry; Ben held on to her as she did. I gave them some space as the others talked to one another. I found Mrs. Holls talking with Greg and his daughter. "Oh Rebecca, I'm really sorry about what happened. I'm sure they were very nice people." Mrs. Holls said to the girl, Rebecca I guess. "Yeah, they were." She said back.
I walked over to them and said "How are you guys holding up?" "We're doing just fine dear. What about yourself?" "I'm fine. Tired, but fine." I looked down at the girl. "So, Rebecca right? How are you doing?" "Good I guess. If you don't mind me asking, you are?" she said looking confused. "Oh, sorry, my names Sam." I told her. "Sam here was in the city when it all happened. Probably wouldn't have got out if Ben wasn't there to save her." "Really? I didn't think he had it in him." "Neither did I, but sometimes even the most unlikely people can be heroes." Mrs. Holls said.
I heard what sounded like crying. I looked behind them to see, sitting in Ben's car was an old man with his head in his hands. "Is he ok?" "He just lost his wife dear. She got attacked before we could get away. He just wants some time alone right now." Mrs. Holls said. I felt bad for the man, but I gave him his space.
I turned to walk away when a lady and a man sitting by the pickup called me over. "Excuse me miss, you don't happened to have any food on you, do you? My wife is very hungry." "No, I don't, sorry." Just then Weston came over to us with a bag. "Did I hear that someone was hungry?" "Yes, my wife." Weston reached into the bag and pulled out two packages of crackers & cheese and a juice box. "Here, it's not much, but it will keep you going till we can get some food ready for lunch." "Thank you. We appreciate it." The man said.
The wife started to get up from the seat in the truck and I noticed that her stomach was very large. "Take it easy honey. The doctor said you shouldn't put too much strain on yourself." "Relax, I know what I'm doing. It's not the first time I've had a Baby before." "Yeah, but this is my first child." I waked a little closer. "Wow, I didn't realize you were pregnant." I said. She looked at me. "What, you thought I was just fat?" she said sarcastically. "No! No, I just didn't get a good look at you yet." "Relax, I'm just kidding. We haven't had the time to talk to each other yet. I'm Judy." "Sam."
"So, how far along are you?" I asked. "About 7 1/2 months." "What's it going to be?" She looked down at her stomach and said "I don't know. We were just going to wait and see what it going to be when it's born." We stood there talking for some time; talking about the baby, what we did for a living, and finally about what we would do now. "So what do you think we'll do now with all the walkers around?" "I don't know. But whatever happens, I know Ted will keep me safe."
Ben came over to us "You two better get over here. I think we're about to have a meeting." We walked over to the others, who were all stood in a group. As we got off to one side of the crowd I saw that Chan was standing in front of them. "OK, are we all here? Good. Now I know most of you don't know me, and I don't really know most of you either, but for now I'm going to take a leadership type of role. It's just going to be a temporary thing. I doubt it will take long for the government to take care of this."
Everyone was looking at Chan for a moment before agreeing to his idea. "Alright, now to the matter at hand. Even though we killed most, if not all, of the zombies near your homes, it's not safe enough to go back to them. I suggest we head to the old motel we stayed at last night. It has more than enough room for all of us." He looked down for a moment then back to us. "The only problem is that there is not enough room in the vehicles for all of us and it will take some time to get there by walking."
"If any of you have a vehicle that has space for many people we could send some people to go get it." A voice; which was old with a German accent, said "I'm a bus driver. I've got a bus in my drive vay. It's not zat big, but it should vork vell." I turned to see it was the elderly man that had been crying before that had said that. "Good. Alright who will volunteer to go get it?" "I will." said Kevin. "Me too." added Ben. "Since I know where he lives." "Count me in." said Tara. "Alright, the rest of you are going to help me get everything ready to go."
