Fear. It controls our actions and what we become. Fear. A hair raising feeling. Fear. When your step brother is ready to kill his best friend and you.

We ran through the halls until we reached the gates leading outside the school. Jace bent over, exhausted from the run. Me, I kept an eye on the doors to see if Jon followed. My worst fear was that Jon would flip and tell our parents. If he did they would come home from Italy and I would die a virgin.

"Clary. Where are you? Don't worry about me. I won't hurt Jace too bad."

Jaces eyes about popped out of his head and he grabbed my arm. "Run, now." I nodded and we ended up climbing a fire escape and laying on the gym roof. Jon's voice could be heard below us and it sounded like he had the whole football team searching.

"So, is this romantic or depressing?" Jace asked turning on his side.

"Hmm," I chewed my lip," slightly more romantic than running. Not depressing though, I like it." I couldn't help but laugh and poke Jaces chest. "So, what period are we missing?"

He grinned," Anatomy." Then locked his arms around my frame and pulled me into his chest.

"Jace?" I asked.

"Hmm?" He answered.

"It's quiet. Too quiet. Have they left?" I asked. "Did most of the school know you were the president's son anyway?"

"No," he moaned," Clary, this is bad. Reporters will be everywhere and I don't want that. I want a camera-free relationship. Not a run-from-the-cameras-Skype-only relationship. You know what I mean?" I nodded and let him continue. "I love you so much I don't want to hurt you."

"Jace," I took his hands and faced him," how about we climb off this roof. I'll deal with Jon if I have too. Then tonight you sneak me out and we go to Taki's for dinner. If someone with cameras comes, we can deal. I love you so much I don't care what happens." So we climbed down and before we got in the gates were apprehended by the football players.

"Clarissa, please follow us. You too Jace, Jon needs to talk."

"Civil," I whispered in Jaces ear. "Yeah," Jace replied.

Sebastian knocked on the locker room door and Jon opened it glaring at us. "Come in."

I was lightly say down on a bench while Jace was not. "Now tell me, how long this has been going on?"

"Two days," I mumbled. Then took Jaces hand and spoke up," only two days."

Jon's face changed into a smile and he grinned. "That's my sister. Now let me deal with Jace, alone. Take her to the truck guys. They are both already excused because of 'sicknesses'. Go!"

"NO!" I screamed as I was being dragged. "Put me the fuck down!"

"Stop!" Jon sighed. "What is it sis?"

"I am not leaving without him. If you even touch him, I will call Uncle Luke. You know how much he despises bullying." Jon stiffened then laughed," that's your best defense?" I glared and slipped out of the guys grip," I will call dad. The man who grounded you for two weeks for hitting me with a pool noodle." Jon then stiffened and shook his head. "Yes I will Jonathon."

"Put her down."

"Thank You! Now, if I may, Jace come on. I have a great movie at home we can watch, ALONE." Jon muttered something I couldn't understand so I added," If you try to interrupt, any of you, I will tell administration how you tried to do crap to me. Okay?"

"Deal," they said in unison. Jace and I left untouched and headed to my place. I had scared Jon shitless.

"Did your dad seriously ground him for that?" Jace asked on the road. We were in his car because Jon at least needed a ride home.

"I was six and he scared me, okay? Our parents were just good friends then but we were a little like siblings. Anyway, Jon hit my head and next thing I knew Valentine was yelling at him and he was the one crying." Joy filled my tone," it's the one thing I can uses against Jon." We shared a laugh and he looked over with a serious expression.

"Do you want to go to my place instead? Mom won't be home for a while and my siblings should already know about what happened anyway. Shit!" He swerved, barely missing a motorcycle with a suspiciously large camera. "No, no, fuck no! Hang on Clary, I'm taking a shortcut."

"What's going on?"

"Check Aline's page. I think she posted something about us, or me. That was a minion of the tabloids." The Jeep turned onto a dusty road while I took out my phone.

"Let me see, oh shit!" He barley looked over at me, but I knew he wanted to know. "Good Job Clarissa Adele Fray. Dating Jace has its perks doesn't it? Jace Herodale is the President SON. Slut!"

"That made no sense but she is a bitch." Jace commented pulling into the back of his house. "Come on, we need to get inside." Before I could speak he had unbuckled my seatbelt and pulled me in to his strong arms. "Dad will be happy to know this."

We ended up on the couch in the living room and he got up to close the blinds. I could hear him mumbling while he closed them. "Fuck, fuck, fuck." He said nothing when he sat down. The television flashed on and Jace pulled up Netflix. "Your choice, since I got you into this mess."

JACE-

"The Breakfast Club," she said quietly.

I sat there, arm around her, feeling like a piece of shit. Quickly I clicked the movie and we sat there in silence. This was not what I expected when we first went out. Maybe the first week would be slow? No, we just happened to have the worst luck in the world.

"Jace," she said snapping me out of my miserable daydream," don't blame yourself. I'm just happy to be here with you." We watched for an hour between kisses until the door slammed open. Izzy came in, madder than the day Alec and I hid her make-up, followed by Alec. Clary snuggled closer and paused our movie.

"Hey guys, what's wrong?" She quickly asked.

"Funny y'all should ask… Aline Penhallows face is what's wrong. She posted something terrible to her page and suddenly I start getting an enormous amount of tweets and shit. Alec had to drag me out of school before I smacked some sense into her." Izzy half-screamed before sitting beside Clary.

"Care to expand on the subject Jace? But before you start, who picked out this movie?"

"I did," Clary said confidently. She was the only thing keeping me going right now.

"Awesome choice! But seriously, what happened?"

"My brother is what happened," Clary explained. "Jon overreacted and sent the whole team looking for us. That's why we are here. Also, Jace was discovered because Jon yelled his real last name."

Izzy stood up and growled," I am going to hunt him down and…"

"Kill him? Yeah, we know Izzy." Alec paced the room and frowned. "Well Clary can't possibly go home now. Cameras are EVERYWHERE."

Clary's eyes widened and she almost fainted," my parents are going to find out! What will I do then? FUCK!"

"We'll see baby," I said trying to sooth her. "don't worry. We've been through this mess before, the Lightwoods have ways." And we sat there, thinking, for what felt like eternity.
