Almost a year had passed since Sophie and Sian had met at the Blonde's birthday party, making it also almost a year since they'd officially become a couple. Since then, Sian had come out to her friends and family, although she wasn't attracted to any other girl apart from the Brunette, and she'd made this clear to everyone, much to the amusement of her girlfriend. ''It doesn't make you any less gay, Babe.'' she'd told the younger girl a bunch of times already, but always got the same response, a scowl, a few minutes of the silent treatment, before a very heated make out session which almost always ended up with them in bed, proving just how 'not gay' the Blonde was.
Things had been going great between the two of them though, and their friends couldn't have been more thrilled at the match, especially since there was now a lot more parties for them to go to between the different sets of friends. Once she'd finally gotten the courage to properly talk about things with Sophie, Sian couldn't believe how amazing everything seemed to be. The Brunette had been so supportive right from the beginning, even going with her and standing by her side as she told her parents. Sophie had held her in her arms that whole night as the Blonde cried over her father's reaction to the fact she had fallen for a girl. Sian had never seen her father act so angry or disappointed, not even when he'd walked in on her and her first serious boyfriend in bed at the age of fifteen, but Sophie had told her everything was going to be okay, and she was right. After a few weeks and no doubt a lot of hassle from her mother, her dad agreed to sit down and listen to the girls, in the end mumbling something about trying.
Sophie couldn't have been happier with how everything was, especially since at one point she didn't think her and Sian would even end up on speaking terms. Even though things between them had started off pretty quickly and they knew almost from the moment they both admitted their feelings to one another that they wanted to be together as long as they could, neither of them uttered the ''L word'' until about four months into their relationship. They wanted to get to know as much as they could about each other, and prove to each other as well as themselves that they were in it for the long haul and not just playing.
It wasn't long after that that they'd discussed living together, but with them both still being in college and only holding down part time jobs, they couldn't really afford to move out of their student housing they were sharing with their friends. That didn't stop either of them from spending as much time as possible at each other's though, in fact, there hadn't been many nights they'd spent apart since they became a couple. The only exceptions being, one weekend that Sophie had went to Liverpool with a few mates for a friend's birthday celebration, during which she'd spent most of her time on the phone to the Blonde since she missed her so much, and then a few nights when Sian had to really focus on revising for some of her exams and she'd found the Brunette far too distracting when she was around.
One of the main reasons the girls had decided to tell everyone about them right from the start, was due to the fact they found it so difficult to keep their hands of each other and they knew that if they didn't, nights out or parties would be far harder to be able to have fun at since they would be trying to hide their feelings the whole time. Sophie knew that Sian was still quite conscious of anyone staring at them when they were together, but she was slowly getting better at ignoring it, which the Brunette knew would just a little while, and as long as she had the girl she loved by her side, she was quite willing to let her get used to things in her own time.
Waking up slowly, Sian breathed in deeply through her nose and flickered her eyes open as she focused on her surroundings. The first sight she found was the back of the Brunette who was asleep beside her, and she smiled as she turned on to her side and allowed her eyes to scan over the smooth looking skin in front of her. As with every time she looked at the area, her eyes eventually met the three faint scars on the left shoulder blade, and as with every time she seen them, she bit her bottom lip as she remembered how they got there. The night that she'd went home with Sophie from the club, the same night that she and Sophie had finally admitted their true feelings for one another, and the same night that up until that point she'd never imagined anyone being able to make her feel the way Sophie had. She'd apologised to Sophie afterwards about the scratches, but the Brunette had simply grinned and said they'd always be a reminder of how good she was, which had earned her a playful slap from the Blonde.
She raised her hand up and gently skimmed her fingertips over the marks before she leaned forward and pressed her lips against them, as the Brunette began to stir. ''Mmm…'' Sophie hummed as she turned in the bed so she was facing the Blonde, a smile spreading across her face the moment she saw her girlfriend watching her and she leaned in pecking her lips softly. ''Morning.'' Her voice was still laced with sleep, something that Sian always found adorable.
''Morning.'' Sian smiled, leaning in and placing another kiss on Sophie's lips and receiving a hum in response. As Sian went to pull away, the Brunette kept their lips connected and rested her hand on Sian's waist. ''Mmm, am I still dreaming?'' she mumbled against the younger girl's lips, making the Blonde giggle as she pulled back with a smirk.
''You're so cheesy.''
Sophie pretended to look shocked. ''Are you complaining Miss. Powers?''
''Not at all.'' Sian pushed the Brunette so she lay on her back and she rolled over so she was hovering over her, their lower halves pressed together and Sophie's hands against her hips. ''Wish we didn't have to get up.''
''Oh aye?'' Sophie raised her eyebrows with a small smirk tugging at the corner of her mouth. The Blonde loved to tease her, but Sophie was never one to complain when her naked girlfriend was lying on top of her.
''Mhm… I was kinda hoping we could continue what we were doing last night.''
They'd decided on staying at Sophie's the night before and cuddling up on the sofa with some movies and snacks. One of the movies however, had been Magic Mike, and Sophie had asked Sian during one of the strip scenes if she found the guys attractive. Sian had said yes, given that Sophie was the only girl she liked in that way and if it wasn't for meeting the Brunette she'd still be dating guys, after which Sophie couldn't help but feel jealous, even if it was over actors in a movie. For the rest of the movie, Sian couldn't help but be amused at Sophie's attempts to distract her, although they worked pretty well, especially when her hands ventured over her thighs as her lips trailed over her shoulders so softly. As soon as the movie had ended, Sophie had taken it upon herself to remind Sian exactly what it was that she was capable of making her feel that no lad ever had, and it had lasted well into the early hours of the morning, until exhaustion caught up.
Sophie glanced to the side, looking at the time and seeing it was just gone eight before she looked back to the blue eyes above her. ''We have time, I don't have class til 10.'' She whispered as she slid her hands to Sian's lower back and leant up to connect their lips, failing as Sian moved back slightly.
''Babe!'' Sophie whinged as she let her head fall back against the pillow, pouting her bottom lip.
''Well some of us have class at 9.'' Sian said receiving a groan from the girl beneath her. ''But, if you're free tonight…'' She whispered against the Brunette's lips, before placing a quick kiss there and waiting for Sophie's response.
''When am I ever not free for you?'' Sophie stated with a smirk, as she looked into Sian's sparkling eyes making the Blonde bite her bottom lip.
''I promise I'll make it worth the wait.'' Sian kissed the centre of Sophie's chest, then her collar bone and her neck before finally landing a kiss on her lips and pushing herself up from the bed and throwing on one of her girlfriend's t-shirts as she made her way of the bedroom.
''I'm holding you to that Powers!'' Sophie called after her, hearing Sian's adorable laugh as she walked into the bathroom to get ready for uni. Taking the opportunity for a lie in, Sophie wrapped the duvet tighter around herself and closed her eyes as she let out a content sigh at just how good her life was at that moment
For the past few months, Sophie had been thinking more and more about their future, and for the past few weeks she'd been planning the moment she was going to ask Sian to spend the rest of her life with her. From the moment she'd first laid eyes on the Blonde, she knew she was different, and ever since they'd admitted they were in a relationship, Sophie hadn't even looked at another girl, let alone thought about them being anything other than that, just another girl. She'd never felt this serious about anyone before, and she'd certainly never considered doing what she was intending to do on their one year anniversary.
It was a couple days before Christmas and Sophie and Sian were heading into town for a meal before they both headed home to spend a few days with their families. Over the past few days the older girl had become more and more nervous about the proposal she had planned for just over a weeks time, which was only allowing her more time to worry and stress out about the alternative outcomes. What if Sian thought it was a mistake? What if she said they were too young to be considering marriage when they weren't even finished uni? What if she simply didn't want to marry the Brunette…
Sophie was broken from her thoughts by a voice, her favourite voice. She was stood in front of her mirror getting ready for a night out. Sophie had booked a table at a restaurant for them to have a meal together before they had to be apart for a few days.
''Hey baby.'' Sophie smiled at Sian's words as she turned to face the Blonde stood behind her, and she leaned in capturing her lips briefly.
''Hey.''
''We don't have to go out tonight you know. We could just-''
''Sian, we are not staying in, it's the last time I'll see you until after Christmas.''
''Exactly, we could have a cosy night in.'' the younger girl suggested, getting a smirk in return.
''Nice try, but I've already booked us a table, so no way Powers. Now get your cute backside into something sexy so I can take you out.'' Sophie stated spinning the Blonde around and smacking her bum lightly.
''You saying you don't find me sexy all the time?'' Sian asked in mock offence as she walked over to her wardrobe to find something to change into, before placing the outfit on the bed and sitting down to remove her shoes.
Sophie smirked. ''You know I think you're extremely sexy.'' She walked over to Sian and leaned down, resting her fists on the bed either side of her as her face was directly in front of her girlfriend, their lips nearly touching. ''But I want to take you out and treat you, and then later we can come back here and I can continue treating you in private.'' The Blonde's eyes closed, her breath catching in her throat as her girlfriends lips brushed over her own lightly. ''Now get ready.'' She heard whispered before cold air hit her and she opened her eyes to see Sophie back over in front of the mirror.
''Fine!'' Sian pouted. ''But it better be worth it later on, Webster.'' Catching her eye in the reflection of the mirror, Sophie smirked and gave her a wink, letting her know it would be.
A couple of hours later, and they'd enjoyed a meal at one of their favourite restaurants in town and had decided on taking a walk through the city just as it had begun to snow. Thankfully as the weather had been typically cold for the time of year, they'd both opted for warm winter coats when they'd left Sophie's flat, and the Blonde had worn a woolly slouch bobble hat, which Sophie thought made her look even more adorable than usual. As they walked through the bustling streets, they'd noticed some carollers from the local church and had stopped to watch.
Sophie had her arms wrapped around Sian's waist hugging her from behind as they stood on the side of the street watching the singers stood in the snow. Pulling her girlfriend more into her and squeezing her gently, Sophie rested her chin on Sian's shoulder, making the Blonde smile as she turned her head slightly and placed a chaste kiss on her the older girl's lips. Even thought it was snowing and cold outside, it was beautiful and the chill in the air only seemed to make the Blonde's already obvious beauty stand out even more clearly.
Noticing Sophie staring at her, Sian giggled and nudged her side gently with her elbow. ''What?'' she laughed, breaking Sophie out of her little trance. ''You're supposed to be watching the singing.''
''It's hard that's all.'' Sian furrowed her brow a little, not sure what Sophie meant, but didn't need to ask before the older girl continued. ''I mean, how do you expect me to watch them, when I have the most beautiful thing right here I my arms?'' Sian bit her lip, as she looked back at Sophie. The Brunette girl always knew how to make her feel so special, and the way she looked at her always made her believe what she was saying.
''You're sweet.''
''And your gorgeous.''
Even though they'd been together for nearly a year and Sophie had told her a thousand times before, Sian never got used to the compliments. She felt herself blush and she smiled shyly before she quickly pecked the older girl's lips and turned to face the carollers as she entwined their fingers.
As she stood with the Blonde in her arms, Sophie couldn't help but reflect on how lucky she was. She was twenty one years old and she'd already found the girl of her dreams. While they didn't officially live together, the amount of time they spent with each other almost made it feel as if they did. They loved each other, like 100% crazy in love, hated being apart, couldn't keep their hands of one another, knew they wanted a future together, loved each other. They'd spoken about the future quite a bit, what would happen when they finished Uni and got jobs, how they would eventually move into their own place when they were earning enough, and even though it had been when they'd been joking around one time, they'd even discussed how many kids they thought they'd have.
The Brunette couldn't imagine a life that would be more perfect than the one she had with Sian. There was however, just that one thing she thought could possibly bring them that much closer and show how committed she really was to their relationship. She'd already planned everything for the following week and had been bricking it the last few weeks the more she thought about it, and the ''what if's''. What if she got so nervous she messed up the proposal, what if it was too soon and she wrecked everything because she went and rushed things, what if Sian didn't want to marry her one day and what if she said no. But as the snow continued to fall, and she heard a content sigh come from the girl in arms, her fears disappeared and in that instant she made a decision to not wait for the moment she thought made sense to do it, but to ask the most important question she'd probably ever ask in the moment she felt the happiest she ever had.
''Sian.''
''Mm?'' Sian hummed in response as she turned to look at the beautiful Brunette who looked back so lovingly at her.
''I love you.''
''I love you too.'' The Blonde replied, as a smile spread across her face.
''Come here a minute, Babe.'' Sophie un-wrapped her hands from around Sian making the younger girl turn around to look at her, before she took her hand and led her behind the crowd and further away from the music to where it was slightly quieter.
''Everything okay?'' Sian asked, wondering if something was up.
''Yeah, everything's perfect.'' Sophie smiled, feeling her nerves trying to rise, but she swallowed them down and carried on. ''In fact, everything's been perfect for a while now, I mean with you and me.'' Sian smiled as she raised her hand and rubbed her thumb over the Brunette's cheek. Sophie gave a small smile in return, before she reached up and placed her hand over Sian's, bringing it down so both their hands were connected. Then, taking a deep breath, Sophie pulled Sian just that little bit closer before she spoke.
''Sian Powers, you are the one thing in my life that I can never imagine being able to live without. You're the person I can turn to in my time of need, the arms that hold me when I need comfort, my voice of reason, my best friend, and my one and only. I want you to be with me for the rest of my life, and I promise you that I will spend my entire existence making sure you're happy.''
''This sounds like wedding vows.'' Sian giggled as she looked at the Brunette in front of her who looked at her with a nervous smile, but when she didn't laugh along, the younger girl suddenly realised that Sophie wasn't just telling her how much she meant to her, it was something way bigger. ''Soph…'' she whispered, feeling the Brunette squeeze her hands that little bit tighter in her own.
''I know you don't like being the centre of attention with everything focused on you, but you always have all my attention and I'm never able to focus on anything other than you when you're near, and right now is no different.'' Sian smiled as Sophie moved a piece of her hair behind her ear and gently brushed her thumb over her cheek before reconnecting their hands. ''The day you first told me you were mine was the best day of my life, and it's only gotten better ever since.'' Lifting one of the Blonde's hands to her lips, Sophie kissed the top of it softly. ''I wish there was some majorly extravagant way I could show you how much you mean to me, but I'm hoping that you already know how much I love you.''
As Sophie kneeled down on one knee in front of the Blonde, she kept Sian's left in her own right as her other reached into her coat pocket and revealed a small red box. Sian bit her bottom lip and as the Brunette opened the box to reveal a shining silver band holding a small diamond in the centre of it.
''I know you're going to think I'm crazy for this, and maybe you're going to think it's too soon, but I am so in love with you, and I already know that you're the only one for me. So, please make me even happier than you already do. Sian, will you marry me?''
The Blonde's eyes welled up as she looked down to the nervous looking girl in front of her. She could feel her own heart pounding rapidly against her chest, and her legs suddenly felt weak as she looked at Sophie. She knew she loved her, more than she had ever loved anyone, and more than she could ever imagine loving another person. She also knew that Sophie loved her in return, even the simplest thing she did for her always made her feel special. She had suspected that the Brunette had been planning something for their anniversary, but never expected a surprise proposal in the middle of the snow before Christmas, even though she had to admit that she had day dreamed maybe just once or twice, about what it would be like if the older girl did ever ask her to marry her.
Blinking and releasing her tears, Sian looked through her now less blurry vision at the girl she cared about more than anything in the world and she took a deep breath. It wasn't just a massive step like when she admitted to Sophie she wanted to be with her, or when she came out. It was a gigantic leap, where she would be agreeing to get married, and not just married, but married to another woman. She'd be saying she wanted to settle down and be someone's wife, that one day she wanted to one day be known as Sophie's wife… And at that very moment everything was clear and not so scary anymore. It was right at that very moment that she realised there was nothing she could ever want more than to spend the rest of her life with the Brunette, and the fact that she could do that as her wife would only make things even better.
''Yes.''
''Yes?'' Sophie asked as she raised her eyebrows, making sure she had heard correctly.
Sian gave a small smile as she nodded at the Brunette still knelt in front of her. ''Sophie Webster, I would love nothing more than to marry you.'' Sophie's face lit up with a huge smile as she quickly stood up and pulled Sian towards her by her waist as she crashed their lips together, hearing a few 'aw's' coming from some of the people in the crowd who had noticed what was happening and had turned to watch the proposal.
As they kissed, Sophie couldn't help but smile into it as she realised that Sian had just agreed to be her wife. They'd come a long way, through some of the best and hardest times either of them could remember, but they wouldn't change any of it for a second. Everything that had happened had brought them to this point.
''I love you so much.'' Sophie whispered as she rested their foreheads together and kept her hands wrapped around Sian's waist.
''I love you too.'' Sian smiled as she fixed a piece of hair behind the Brunette's ear.
''I'm going to make you so happy.'' Sophie told her, and she meant it. She wanted to make each day for her, happier than the last.
''You already do.'' Sian leant in and softly placed a lingering kiss on Sophie's lips as she stroked her thumb over her cheek and pulled back. ''But now we have a problem…'' she said, making the Brunette's smile falter for a moment. ''How, are we possibly going to top this on our anniversary?''
Sophie's smile returned, only now it was also a mixture of a cheeky grin. ''I'm sure we can think of something to make it memorable.'' she whispered before she leaned in kissed Sian again, trying to relay just how happy she was in that moment.
