Ellie sat, waiting in Steve's office. She was furious. She knew Harper couldn't have anything to do with the drugs or the dog. And yet they'd arrested her. Of course, from a police standpoint, the only logical solution was that it was in fact Harper who implanted the drugs. Ellie crossed her arms and stood. She couldn't stand sitting any longer.

Just then, Steve walked into his office and Ellie turned to him. "So, what, now she goes to jail?" she asked, anger evident on her face.

"Shouldn't be anything new for her," Steve said, moving behind his desk.

Ellie scoffed with a large amount of distain. "You have no idea—not at all in your tiny little brain—what hell she's been through. Maybe if you found out, instead of judging first, you would think differently."

"Ellie, she's been arrested more times than I can count on both hands," he said, trying not to raise his voice.

"She hasn't been arrested in nine years!" Ellie defended. Ellie felt angrier than she had in years—and that was saying something. "Don't you think if she wanted to start a drug trade she would have done it a lot sooner than that? Why wait nine years? Think about it!"

He remained quiet, unable to rebuttal. "Yeah, that's what I thought," she spat, before turning and leaving the office. Steve sighed. He knew he was going a bit over board—if not a lot overboard—but he was too prideful to take back what was done.

He would continue the investigation. Find out who did it. Then the criminal responsible—whoever that may be—will go to prison. Steve dropped into his chair and ran his hands up his face. A second later, Kono walked in his office without prior warning. He looked up and saw her—she didn't look very pleased with him.

But she kept it to business. "Max found what looks to be some kind of cereal number on one of the cocaine bags—Fong is checking it now. There's no DNA other than the dog's on the bags because of their placement, but we've managed to pull a few hair strands from the inside of the bags," she informed him.

She kept it minimal, not saying what she wanted to. He nodded. "Alright. Have Danny get a statement from Ellie and get Grover talking with the workers at the vet clinic," he instructed. She nodded, her slight scowl not leaving until she was gone. It was obvious to Steve that no one agreed with the treatment he'd given Harper in the interrogation room. He didn't even know for sure if he agreed with it.

A minute later, Chin opened Steve's office door and only stood halfway inside. "Ellie got her father's lawyers involved," he said.

"Well, that doesn't surprise me," Steve said, standing. He followed Chin out to the table and screen. "And because of that," Chin continued. "Danny wasn't able to get any useful information out of Ellie." Steve sighed and crossed his arms over his broad chest as he looked at the screen. The screen held all the evidence they had—whether it was against Harper or not. "Right now, it's just a waiting game," Chin said.

"How long until we get the DNA results?" Steve asked, glancing at him momentarily.

"Another two hours at the most," Chin answered. Steve nodded, inhaling. "Do you think she did it?" he asked Chin. Chin didn't answer for a minute. He sighed with a pause. "Based on what we have? No," he answered. "People do change, Steve. They don't all stay the same forever." Steve was about to respond, but was interrupted by Jerry walking in the glass doors, followed by a middle-aged woman. "Uh, Jerry, who is this?" Steve asked him.

"Oh, this is Heather Dumas. She said she's seen the dog before," Jerry answered. Heather stood beside Jerry. "It's true," she said.

"Where did you see him?" Chin asked.

"I was on the beach last week, and I saw two men—dressed in dark clothing—walking a dog. They didn't look like nice men," she recounted.

"Would you recognize them again if you saw them?" Steve asked. She nodded vigorously and Chin led her into his office. Just then, Kono came in the glass doors from the hallway and walked to them. "We got the DNA back," she said. She moved to the table and started typing. "His name is Raphael Damon," she pulled picture of him up onto the screen. "He's wanted in eleven states for drug trafficking."

"Where is he now?" Steve asked.

"Last known location was in Michigan. But HPD got the surveillance footage at the airport and three cameras caught him arriving two weeks ago," Kono explained. "He was picked up in a cab, but we haven't been able to track him past that." Chin came out of his office and met them at the table. "Heather identified one of the men as Raphael and Harris Damon," he said.

"Who's Heather?" Kono asked.

"A witness Jerry found," Chin said. "Don't ask me how."

"It was easy. I just asked everyone at the apartment complex next to Harper's. Three people had seen the dog alone running through the parking lot. Only one saw the dog with someone," Jerry said. "Does this mean Harper's innocent?" Jerry waited expectantly for an answer. "It looks like it," Kono said.

"Where's Danny?" Steve asked, looking around. He'd just noticed that Danny hadn't come back from talking to Ellie. "He's talking to Harper," Chin said. "Maybe she saw someone that looked like Damon lurking around the complex when Darcy was found?" Steve nodded, looking at the screen. "Chin, Kono, see if you can find his cab on a camera and follow it," he said. They nodded and Chin moved next to Kono. Steve turned to Jerry, and Jerry looked expectantly at him, waiting for an order. "What can I do?" he asked.

"Go to the lab and see if Fong's decoded the cereal number yet," Steve said. It was all he could of that Jerry could do right then. Jerry nodded. "Will do, boss," he said, before turning and leaving through the glass doors. Steve himself, though, felt a bit lost. Thankfully for him, Danny walked in the glass doors after Jerry left. He looked just as Kono did earlier—a slight scowl present on his lips. "Harper didn't see anything," he said, a bit disappointedly. Steve nodded, taking in the information.

Danny slid his hands in his pockets with a sigh and Steve raised an eye brow. "What?" Steve asked.

"You really don't know? Not at all?" Danny asked.

"Danny-"

"No. Don't give me some speech about how you did what anyone would do, or how I'm overreacting," Danny said.

"You can't blame me for seeing the obvious," Steve argued. "She has a criminal record, and the dog she brought in off the street had cocaine in it's stomach!"

"Well, now we have evidence that it wasn't her at all. Are you going to apologize? Or agree that she's innocent?" Danny asked, angrily.

"We still don't have concrete proof," Steve answered.

"It's not about proof, Steve, it's about your pride," Danny spat. Chin walked over and stepped halfway between them. They were glaring at each other. "I think you two need a break," Chin said, looking between them. "We've been working on this all day, and obviously it's getting to your heads. Go cool off. Kono and I will be fine here." Danny let air out his nose in a slight huff and turned for the door.

He exited through the glass doors and Chin sighed, turning to Steve. "You, too," he said, to which Steve sighed. "Take a break." Steve reluctantly went into his office and sat in his desk chair.

Since they couldn't charge Harper indefinitely, she was released. She slid into the passenger seat of Ellie's Hybrid and shut the door. She clipped on her seat belt, and Ellie sighed. "Are you okay, Harper?" she asked. Harper nodded numbly. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said, trying for a smile. "Let's just go home, please?" Ellie nodded and put the car in gear. She drove to Harper's house and pulled into the parking near the door. Harper hopped out of the car and pulled her keys out of her pocket.

She unlocked the front door and walked inside, Ellie close behind. "I'll make lunch. Why don't you go shower and relax?" Ellie suggested, closing the door behind her. Harper nodded, letting out a breath. "Okay," was all she said. Ellie could tell something was off with Harper as Harper disappeared behind her bedroom door. Usually Harper would decline when Ellie offered to do something for her—which is just who Harper was. But Ellie just sighed and started searching through Harper's fridge for something to make them for lunch.

Harper sat on the end of her bed with a plop of her weight. She felt hollow inside. Her body moved robotically, laying out clothes and starting the water for a shower. She dropped her old clothes by the bathroom door and stepped in under the warm water. The water steamed, fogging up the small space. Harper closed the shower curtain and performed her usual shower routine—or at least started to. After rinsing her hair, she went to reach for the conditioner, but paused.

A sudden burst of a sob racked her body, and she leaned into the shower wall, unable to stand on her own. It may seem like nothing, or something easily gotten over. But Harper's heart bruised easily.

Kono and Chin worked different camera angles to find Damon's cab and follow it until he got out. The camera feed showed the cab stopping by a small tattoo parlor downtown. Damon exited the cab with a duffel bag, walked inside the tattoo parlor, and then he didn't come out until they fast forwarded the footage to last week. He and another man left the tattoo parlor with a dog on a leash that they recognized as Darcy, without the duffel bag.

All three of them headed out of sight of the camera in dark clothes. "That's it," Kono said.

"Now, do they come back to the parlor?" Chin asked, scrolling through the footage. He stopped it and hit play as the men did return—but without the dog. They were arguing over something as they entered. "Darcy must have gotten loose," Chin said.

"And they lost not only the dog, but their product," Kono agreed. "They'll be looking for it."

"By now the arrest would be public," Chin said. They both had the same thought. "We need to get a squad over to Harper's apartment, now," Kono said. Chin went into Steve's office and Steve looked up from his desk, not looking very pleased. "It's Damon," he said. Steve nodded. "We're sending officers to Harper's apartment, we think they'll come looking for the dog. And when they do-" Chin said.

"They'll find her," Steve said, an edge of panic to his voice.

Harper finally got out of the shower and dressed, after drying her hair with a towel. Suddenly a squeak came from the living room and Harper paused. "Ellie?" Harper called.

"Harper, could you come here a minute?" Ellie asked, her voice an octave too high. Harper opened her door and walked into the living room curiously. Ellie edged into Harper's side and Harper froze. Two men stood near the open door, holding guns, dressed in black. They had their aims on Ellie and Harper. "Where's the dog?" one man asked. He was short, bald-headed, with minimal facial hair. "He's not here anymore," Harper answered, cautiously.

"Search the apartment," the man ordered the other. The other man nodded and started searching the apartment. Police sirens sounded far off outside and the short man glared at Ellie and Harper. "You called the Police, huh?" he said. "Harris, give me the bag." The other man gave the short man a small duffel bag. The short man opened the bag and pulled out a grenade, and Ellie gasped. He dropped the bag and went to Harper and Ellie. He grabbed Harper's arm and pulled her at gun point to the front door.

Ellie tried to go after them, but the other man held a gun aimed at her, so she stayed where she was. The short man brought Harper outside, into the middle of the street, just as three cop cars pulled up—several feet away. They formed a blockade on the parking lot exit. Steve's truck, Danny and Kono's cars, and Chin's motorcycle pulled up behind the cop cars. Steve, Danny, and Kono got out of their cars and went to the front line of cop cars. The short man held an arm around Harper's neck.

In that hand, he held the grenade. In the other, he held a gun. The Police officers trained their gun on him, waiting for the order to shoot. "One move and I pull the pin!" the short man exclaimed. Harper tried to hold still, but all she wanted to do was move. She took a deep breath, closing her eyes. "You don't want to do this," Steve called, from behind the blockade. "Let her go and we'll let you get away with your life." The short man laughed humorlessly. "Yeah, right!" he called back.

Chin looked at Kono and she got the idea. She headed back to the truck and got out the sniper rifle case. She snuck to the side of the building and started climbing up the fire escape. She made it to the roof and found a good vantage point. Kono began setting up as quickly as she could while Steve tried talking the man down. "We have your drugs," he said. "We have video of you with the dog and witnesses. It's over."

"Tell you what, you let me walk out of here and I won't blow the girl up!" the man said.

"I can't do that," Steve said.

"Then you better get down," the man said. Harper squeezed her eyes tightly shut as the man moved to remove the pin from the grenade. Suddenly, a red hole formed between the man's eyes. His hold on Harper loosened and she wriggled free, taking steps away from the man as he fell to the ground. Harper looked around for where the shot came from, and her eyes spotted Kono on the roof. Then her thoughts snapped back to Ellie, who was still inside the apartment. Danny and Chin hurried over to Harper. "You okay?" Danny asked.

"Yeah, yeah," she said. "But Ellie's inside. There's another guy, he's got a gun!" Danny and Chin both pulled guns and quickly went to the door of the apartment. "Five-0! Drop your weapon!" Danny said, as they entered. The man quickly dropped his gun out of shock and fear, and Danny started cuffing him. Harper hurried inside and Ellie ran into her arms. "Are you okay?" Harper asked.

"I'm fine! Are you?" Ellie asked.

"I'm okay," Harper said. "We're okay."
