Chapter 7:

Zoey led Steve towards his truck, without answering Danny's questions much to his annoyance, she grinned at them and said to Steve,

"Keys please." Steve stuck his hand in one of his pockets of his cargos and pulled out the keys, holding them up between his thumb and forefinger. She took them off him and led him towards the passenger side of the truck. Once she had helped him in she handed him two earplugs.

"Put these in." Steve took them with a confused twist of his mouth and did as he was told as Zoey talked to the others.

"How are you doing that?" Danny asked again. He may have looked annoyed but secretly he was very impressed. Zoey grinned,

"Well this morning I told him I was a part time prostitute, he wouldn't let me sleep, and so I thought I would go with it and bring the blindfold." She replied with a chuckle, "Apparently he believed me. Then I threatened to play the Glee music until his ears bled if he tried to remove it or peek." They all shuddered at the thought, but then Danny smiled evilly.

"I wonder if it works with It's a small world too?"

"That is pure evil Danny!" Zoey said in mock outrage, "Probably though."

"So where are you taking our fearless leader?" Chin asked. As Zoey had explained it and actually explained Steve's behaviour that morning. Zoey grinned before beckoning them all forward,

"I'm taking him skydiving." Danny, Chin and Kono all burst out laughing,

"If he didn't love you before he definitely will after this." Danny eyed her critically, "What are you up to?"

"I'm going to bet him that I can beat him to the ground." She replied smugly. Kono raised an eyebrow,

"How do you know you can beat him?" She asked her.

"Google it." Was all Zoey said before climbing into the truck and gunning the engine. As they watched the truck leave Kono did exactly that and started to laugh. The boys looked at her in confusion, so she turned her phone around so they could see what was so funny. On the screen was a picture of Zoey holding the Guinness book of records certificate for the world's fastest skydives.

"Five years. That's impressive." Chin said as he read the caption and whistling. Danny chuckled,

"Steve's not going to know what hit him."

Airfield:

Zoey pulled the truck up and put it into park. Climbing out she looked through the windscreen and saw Steve looking so lost and confused, she thought he looked adorable. She pulled his door open and gently touched his arm,

"We're here. Mind your step." She said kindly as she guided him out of his own truck. He frowned,

"Where are we?" He asked her, hoping she would answer. She smiled,

"We are on our second date."

"Really?" He asked her unsure. He hated feeling like this. So wrong footed but he also trusted Zoey. She chuckled,

"Yes really. You're going to love it. Trust me." She replied as she led him into an old metal hangar. She nodded her head once at the man in charge before she turned to Steve and removed the blindfold with a grin. He looked around and grinned like it was Christmas, he took the ear plugs out of his ears and looked at her, excitement flashing in his eyes.

"Why are we here?"

"I told you we're here for our second date. Now get ready Commander." She replied as she walked away to get ready herself. It didn't take long and soon they were up in the air grinning like idiots.

"We're at level. Prepare yourselves." The pilot called. Zoey grinned and looked at Steve, who grinning like a loon; she couldn't wait to wipe that grin off his face.

"Ok sailor this is the way this works. I beat you to the bottom you buy dinner." He smiled wolfishly,

"What do I get if I win." Now it was her turn to grin.

"I guess you'll have to win to find out." Without waiting for him to reply she jumped out the plane with a loud whoop. Steve gaped at the place where she had just been standing and then looked at the man who had helped them into their gear.

"You'd better get going." He said with a chuckle as Steve headed towards the open door. Just as Steve was about to jump out he grabbed his arm,

"You know you should marry that girl right?" Steve just smirked and jumped out with his own loud whoop.

Five minutes later:

Zoey was already on the ground and looking up at the sky to see if she could see Steve. She had even tried to slow down a little but then her competitive streak had kicked into high gear and she had decided to just get on with it. Putting her hand up to shield her eyes from the glare of the sun she finally spotted McGarrett. Grinning she waited for him to land beside her. Taking in his smile she knew she had picked well for the date. Taking his helmet off and after wrangling the parachute so that it was floating harmlessly in front of him, he smiled the most dazzling smile she had ever seen. He was still smiling after a couple of minutes and she felt her own smile start to fall,

"What?" she asked uncertainly. He stepped towards her, making sure not to get his feet tangled in the lines of the parachute. Without saying anything he gently grabbed her around the waist and pulled her towards him. She let out a little 'oof' as she fell towards him. He held her lightly as she fell into his chest. Using his finger to lift her chin he quickly captured her lips with his in a heat searing kiss which left them both a little breathless and Zoey looking at him in confusion. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it again when she realised she couldn't actually speak. Steve smirked and gathered up the parachute before sauntering off leaving Zoey feeling very off kilter. Shaking her head she gathered up her own parachute before jogging after Steve. They arrived at the truck at about the same time. Steve was still grinning like the Cheshire cat. Zoey scowled at him and hopped into the truck. Steve climbed in beside her and grinned at her before he started the engine. They passed the time in an easy silence until they weren't far from the house when Zoey started to fidget. Steve took a peek at her out the corner of his eye,

"You ok?" he asked her.

"Huh? What?" she asked him distractedly.

"You're fidgeting and I don't understand why." She waved her hand dismissively.

"I'm sure it's nothing." She turned her head to look out the window unable to shake the feeling that something wasn't right. They arrived at the house and Zoey jumped out of the truck before Steve even stopped completely. She ran towards the house and fumbled with the key before she pushed through the door. As she stepped across the threshold she froze. Something wasn't right, the house didn't feel right. Walking over the hard wood floor slowly she approached the little breakfast bar and stopped. She felt what felt like ice running through her veins as she looked at the floor. She heard the front door open and turned when a piece of paper caught her attention. Picking it up she felt like throwing up.

Get rid of him. Or he'll be next. She heard him head towards the bedroom and then the shower go. She steeled herself for what she was about to do. He wasn't in the shower long and he emerged from the bedroom wearing his cargo pants and a tight t-shirt. She gulped and then levelled a glare at him.

"I want you out!" she said as calmly as she could. He looked at her in confusion.

"What?"

"You heard me! I want you out. I can't do this anymore."

"Why?" he asked her.

"Because I'm falling in love with you and I can't do this whole living together thing and kissing you is getting harder and harder. So I want you out."

"What about the case?"

"Screw the case. Besides Catherine is back in town."

"How do you know that?" Steve asked her. He was really sick of being confused especially after an amazing date.

"It's what I do. Now get out." She growled at him. She started to walk towards him and she started to lead him out. It just showed how out of sorts Steve felt as he let her lead him out and push him out of the door and down the little steps.

"AND DON'T COME BACK!" she shouted as he looked at her in total shock. She slammed the door and tried to stop the tears that were threatening to fall. Taking in gulps of air to try and stop her frantically beating heart from breaking. After taking one more deep breath and letting it out she walked back towards the breakfast bar and stepped just to the side of it. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. It was surreal. She pulled her phone out of her pocket and debated on who to call. She was about to call Danny when she remembered that he had Grace this weekend and didn't want the poor girl to be scarred for life. Next she thought of Kono but decided against it as she needed cool and calm. So she dialled Chin.

"Kelly."

"Chin its Zoey. I need you to come to my house. ASAP. Bring forensics but do it quietly." She replied in a monotone. Before he could even ask a question she hung up and sat down heavily at the breakfast bar just staring.

Twenty minutes later:

Chin arrived at the house with forensics in tow. He knocked on the door and Zoey called,

"It's open!" Chin walked in and was surprised to see Zoey just sitting there staring at her kitchen floor.

"What's going on?" he asked her worriedly.

"Just look." She replied woodenly. Chin looked at her and then peered around the breakfast bar and reeled back in shock.

"What have you done?" he asked her.

"Nothing. It's not him. He's gone back to his house with Catherine. They left this." She pointed at the piece of paper.

"Oh damn. So I take it from the fact that he's not here that you got rid of him. How did you manage that?"

"It doesn't matter how I did it. I want this imposter gone. Petals is coming for him Chin. I had to get him out of the way so he wouldn't get hurt." She finally looked him in the eye and he could see that she was on the verge of tears.

"He can look after himself. He's a Navy SEAL."

"I know. But I've got a weird feeling."

"What kind of weird feeling?"

"Like this is all going to come to head. And soon." Chin nodded and started to help forensics. As he was passing her she grabbed his arm, "Steve doesn't find out about this. I want everything wiped off Five-O's servers. And I mean everything."

"Why?"

"Because from now on I do this alone. I won't risk anyone's life. I'm going to get this sick bastard but I have to do it on my own. Can you do that for me?"

"Yes. But this is a bad idea."

"I know. If Steve asks I implanted a virus that wiped everything on your servers in relation to Petals and that I re-enlisted in the Navy." Chin nodded once, he didn't like to lie to his boss, but he would do it if it meant his Ohana was safe. Zoey watched his reaction and decided to do what she said. She would send him an email and with some stuff about Petals and then hide a virus inside it so that he wasn't actually lying to Steve. Her mind made up she waited for forensics and Chin to leave before she stood up and headed into the bedroom and stripping the bed and burning the sheets. Next she moved from room to room wiping every trace of Steve from her house. Afterwards she phoned her old CO down at Pearl Harbour,

"Hey boss."

"Zoey? How can I help you today?" he asked her. Her old boss was a chunky man with light brown hair and light blue almost grey eyes. He was always very kind to her and he was a good sounding board when it came to Petals.

"I need to temporarily re-enlist in the Navy."

"May I ask why?"

"Petals." She stated.

"I think I can swing that. When do you wanna come back?"

"As soon as possible. The sooner this crap is over the sooner I can get back to my life."

"Has he attacked someone in your personal life? Has he come into your personal life? Come to think of it do you even have a personal life for him to wander into?" he asked her.

"You need to pick a question and go with it. No he hasn't but close enough. I had the potential for a personal life but he invaded. He didn't just wade into my life he's everywhere I look. What makes you think it's a man?" she replied with an eye roll that he couldn't actually see.

"What makes you think it isn't?" he asked back.

"I never said it wasn't. I just don't think…" she trailed off. She didn't want to tell him too much but she knew she would need a sounding board. She looked around her living room and made a decision.

"Listen boss I gotta go. But I'll definitely keep you in the loop." She hung up the phone and slowly placed back in the cradle contemplating what was going on. After a few moments she shook her head and placed her hand on her hips. She started to move her furniture around her living room and she started to pull all the pictures off the wall. Next she took a paintbrush and painted the wall white. Once she was done she pulled every piece of evidence, photo and theory out of the stacks of boxes that she had hidden in the garage and then she started to tack them to the now white wall. First she grouped everything together and then started to pull out what she thought would be relevant and possibly provide new clues to the Petals case. Next she headed over to her computer and printed off every document that 5-0 had put together. It all went onto the wall and Zoey slumped onto her couch and she started to scrutinise everything on the wall. Before she knew it she had fallen asleep.

Dream:

Zoey stretched and padded along the cold wooden floor. This house was amazing but damn it was cold on a morning which felt very strange considering she was in Hawaii. But then maybe it had something to do with the ocean that was pretty much on the doorstep. She approached the top of the stairs and strained her ears in the near silence. Something had woken her up but she couldn't put her finger on what it was. It was almost as if her subconscious was trying to tell her something. Sighing quietly all she really wanted to do was to go back upstairs and curl up next to the man that was still in bed. But instead here she was creeping around his house because something had woken her up. She stopped halfway down the stairs and listened again. Something was definitely off about this house. Again she started back down the stairs until she reached the bottom.

"For Christ sake! If there's somebody there just come out. I'm tired of this." Silence greeted her but then she really did hear it again. It was the slight creak of a floorboard. She turned her head at the noise and decided to follow the noise. It hadn't come from the kitchen. So then she headed back towards the den and she heard it again. Pulling her shoulders back she nudged the door open with her bare foot. A shadow flitted across the wall and Zoey saw a slim figure of medium height.

"Turn around." Zoey said quietly. The figure did so at what felt like a leisurely pace. "Hurry the Hell up." Zoey growled. Once the person had turned around Zoey smirked,

"Why am I not surprised? What are you doing here?" she demanded.

"I came for my stuff. Don't you think it's funny that he didn't get rid of it?"

"He did. So what are you doing here?"

"I came for you." The figure pulled a gun and pointed it at Zoey before pulling the trigger.

Zoey sat up with a shock and clutched her chest and willed her racing heart to slow down. She looked at the wall and growled,

"How did I not see that?"

A/N: Sorry for the late update. R/L really got in the way and I did kind of lose my muse for this story. But thank you very much for all of your reviews and hopefully I'll be updating soon.
