Disclaimer: I do not own D. Grey-Man. If I did, Daisya would be alive...you all know this by now. I do own the random old man and his horse though.
What's this? No updates in 3 years then suddenly 2 new chapters in the span of 24 hours? I make no sense! And yes, I'm aware Kanda is a bit ooc, but keep in mind, he's also looking after Daisya, so what he would normally do doesn't really apply.
Anyway, please enjoy.

They were tired, cold and running low on food.
Kanda and Daisya had been traveling under the cover of darkness for almost 3 weeks now and hadn't made as much progress as Kanda woud have liked, but he couldn't push Daisya to walk more then 6 hours a night. The poor guy was trying, that much was clear, but he still needed rest. The cut on his leg from a month before had yet to heal and the cold was affecting it.
Currently, they were both camped out in a small cave, Kanda watching the fish he had caught from the stream hours ago cooking over a small fire while Daisya slept quietly next to him.
Well...quietly was pushing it a bit.
He had all but one of the extra blankets covering him and was using one of their bags as a pillow, but he was shivering and starting to sneeze.
'Che...this is just great...' Kanda thought to himself while poking the fish with a twig. 'The last thing I need is him catching a cold. We can't afford to go into any towns and be reported but we can't keep hiding out in cold, damp caves...'
As if on cue, Daisya let out another sneeze and startled himself awake, his eyes slightly red from the restless sleep. "Kanda-san...? Biz neredeyiz? Soğuk...ve başımı acıyor hala hissediyorum...(1)"
"Daisya...english please...Daisya?"
"Soğuk...sevmem...(2)"
Kanda sighed as Daisya drifted off into another restless sleep. He hadn't a clue what he had said just now, but he was sure it was related to the cold somehow. Putting a hand to his forehead, he frowned, as he could feel the fever through the bandages. "Che...far to atsui(3)...we need to cool you down and get some medicine into you..."
But that would mean either finding a town and leaving Daisya by himself, a huge risk if he's caught and can't get back in time...or carry him until he found a small village that would keep their mouths shut...again, a huge risk. In the end though, Kanda couldn't chance having Daisya on his own. If he got to cold, he wouldn't be strong enough to make a fire...and that would easily lead to his death.
A shudder ran up Kanda's spine, though he didn't outwardly show it. He remembered the night all this happened...Daisya hanging upside down...him getting hit in the head and loosing him memories...they came to far just to loose him to a blasted cold of all things!
"Tonight, we'll head out again...I'll carry you if I must...I'll get whatever medicine you need." He slowly shook his head when Daisya once again sneezed in his sleep, poking at the fish and picking off the parts that were cooked, setting them aside until there was a good pile. He then woke Daisya up and helped him eat what he could and allowing him to go back to sleep yet again.
Closing his own eyes after eating his fill of the fish, Kanda wrapped the last blanket around his shoulders and dozed off.

True to his word, Kanda ended up carrying Daisya that night. He was curled up in his arms, starting to wheeze with every breath and sneezing once a minute. Kanda knew Daisya was getting worse but there was nothing he could do until he he found a village.
"I know Daisya...I know you're not well...just hang on a bit longer and we'll get something to help you get better..." He shivered as a cold wind cut through their clothes and settled deep into their bones, making Daisya shiver all the more. "Cursed samui!(4)"
"Can I help you young fella?"
Turning around, Kanda looked up at an elderly man sitting on a front bench of a horse pulled wagon, bundled up in so much layers that only his bushy eyebrows and mustache were visible.
"I...yes...my compion is very sick and we need medicine and a warm place to stay."
That seemed to light up the gentlemans world. "You're welcome to come with me to my place. It's not much, but I have an extra room you two can stay it. It's not to far, just a couple more miles up and over these hills."
"Thank you sir."
It took a bit of doing, but between Kanda and the old man's help, they were able to get Daisya in the back of the wagon. As much as it rubbed him the wrong way to accept help, Kanda couldn't let his stubbornness get in the way of Daisya's health and safety.
True to his word, the old man got them to his humble looking home within 20 minutes, asking them to wait while he put his horse away. It took only 5 minutes more before he was back and helping them inside.
"The spare room is the first door on the right. I need to get a fire going, so feel free to use the extra blankets in the trunk at the end of the bed."
A muted nod was all he got as Kanda carried his sneezing friend over to the room. He stripped Daisya out of his outerwear, and tucked him into the soft bed, taking out the thickest blanket he could find in the trunk and throwing it over him. As greatful as he was for the shelter, Kanda was on edge. If the old man was an Akuma, he would have one hell of a fight on his hands.
"Che...better go find out now..."
With one more look at Daisya, Kanda firmly gripped his Mugen and moved out into the hallway.
1: Where are we? I still feel so cold...and my head hurts...
2: Don't like...the cold...
3: Hot
4: Cold

Yes, I'm doing translations again. Honestly, I'm having a much harder time with the Japanese words then anything, because the translator I used 3 years ago is no longer around, so I'm going to many different sites just to find simple words.
And please don't hate me for making Daisya sick! My brain thought of it, I swear! It refused to write anything else!
Remember! Reading + Reviewing equals one happy Deadly Fangs!
