Hi guys! Sorry I haven't updated in awhile. I was out of town, and then time just got away from me. Anyways, thanks for the wonderful reviews. To the guest who reviewed under the name Skylar, I would love to use some of your ideas if you don't mind. I hope you all enjoy chapter seven!
Chapter Seven
Rosalind woke up the next morning with a smile on her face. She was just so happy for Skye! She knew that nothing had happened yet, but she was sure it would. On the other hand, she herself had a problem. Tommy or Cagney. She just didn't know what to do! She kept trying to stop herself from liking Cagney, giving reasons such as you have a boyfriend, and he doesn't like you back, but it wasn't working. She knew she liked him, and she knew that there was nothing she could do about it. She now was simply trying to make a smart choice. But, man, it was hard! The fact that she was hungry didn't make it any easier, so she went downstairs for breakfast. All of her sisters were already down there. She greeted each of them, and give Skye a little wink. She got a glare in response. Typical Skye, she thought. The girls finished breakfast and changed. When they were all heading out the door to go find Jeffrey, Rosalind pulled Skye aside.
"Remember what I told you," she said. "Be yourself. And try not to have anymore outbursts like the one you had with Mrs. T-D yesterday." Skye grinned.
"Well, I can't promise that," she said. "But don't worry. I'll be fine." They all walked out of their cottage and to the back door of the Arundel mansion. The door opened and revealed Churchie, one of their very favorite people.
"Hello girls!" she exclaimed. All of them, even Skye, ran up and gave her a hug.
"As much as I love seeing you all," Churchie said. "I know I'm not why you're here. Jeffrey's up in his room, playing the piano."
"Thanks, Churchie," Rosalind said, and they all ran upstairs. When they came in, Jeffrey was so immersed in his piano playing that he didn't even notice them. Skye and Jane were going to change that. Wordlessly, as if they had rehearsed it, they sat down on either side of him and banged into him with all of their strength.
"Hey! Wha-oh. It's you guys," he said with a laugh. Batty then jumped up onto his lap, causing him to laugh again.
"Hey, Battykins!" he said. She looked up at him with admiration in her eyes.
"What piece where you learning? Can you teach it to me?" she asked eagerly.
"This one might be a little hard," he said. When her face fell, he spoke again. "But don't worry. Before you guys came a picked one out especially for you." When she heard that, her eyes filled with light. She wrapped her arms around him and he laughed, returning the hug.
"You see," Rosalind whispered to Skye, who had moved from the piano bench. "To get a guy to be affectionate, you have to be as fearless as a little kid. Nothing embarrases them. You have to do that."
"Fat chance," retorted Skye. There was no way she would be able to simply go up to a guy and hug him. That wasn't gonna happen.
"Fine. Then why don't we let Jeffrey and Batty spend some time together."
"Sure." They told Jane their plan, told Jeffrey "See you later," and left.
"What song are we gonna learn?" Batty asked eagerly.
"Well," said Jeffrey. "This song is extra special. Do you want to know why?" Batty nodded vigorously. "Because I wrote it." Batty squealed in delight. Jeffrey smiled at the young girl.
"Can you tell me what key signature this is in?" Jeffrey asked her. Batty pondered the question for a moment before giving her answer.
"D major," she said confidently.
'Yep!" Jeffrey said, and he gave her a high five. "What's the first note?"
"C."
"Yes! You've gotten good!" Batty beamed with pride. Learning the song went pretty well. She had a little trouble remembering the chromatic scale, but Jeffrey helped her through it. They spent hours and hours at the piano. At the end of the day, batty felt happier than she had in a long time.
Later that night, after dinner, everyone was doing their own thing. Most people were either in the kitchen or the front yard. Skye, on the other hand, was on the roof with her binoculars. She was stargazing. Suddenly, the window that she used to get up onto the roof opens, startling her. It was Jeffrey. To her dismay, her stomach flipped. It was the first time she had been alone with him since discovering her feelings for him.
"Hey," he said.
"Hi," she replied. "How was it with Batty earlier?" He grinned.
"It was great. She's not perfect, but she's improved a lot, especially for her age. Her work with pentatonic scales was especially impressive because..." Skye begins to tune him out. She could never follow him when he was talking about music. She yawned. It wasn't intentional, but he took it as a sign that he was losing her.
"I'm boring you, aren't I?" he asked with a smile.
"Just a little," she said, returning his smile. They sat there for a moment, and then Jeffrey started moving his hand toward hers. For a moment, she was paralysed with shock. But then she heard Rosalind's voice in her hand saying Just take his hand!. She was about to do just that, but then she heard a scream.
Cliffhanger! I hope you all enjoyed that. Who do you think screamed? Also, keeping in mind that this is a Skye+Jeffrey(Skeffrey!) story, I want to know which sister you guys would like to see more of. Thanks for reading and please review!
