Chapter seven
It has only been a hour and a half an Sakura was already sweating up a storm since Shepard left, taking in Miranda's suggestion the pinkette wore some clothing that suited for exercise training by wearing a grey colored sports bra and matching sweat pants. Miranda herself was standing a few feet away by Sakura's left side, the Cerberus Oppretive have been instructing the pinkette about Biotic uses and small demostrations then would stand back an watch the progress, there were two large metal crates with Cerberus logo's on each side that was use for storage containers. One of Sakura's test was to lift them both up with only biotic powers and held them up as long as possible for better control, of which she could only hold them up for about less than a minute for over twenty times of trying.
"You need more concentration, try to block out everything in your surroundings that could possibly be a distraction. Once more again like last time." Miranda told her as Sakura took a deep breath in then let it out before focusing on the crates, her entire body started glowing out of energenic blue that show of biotics active then the pinkette would raise her arm up with her hand open out as the two crates were surrounded by the same blue colored energy before they slowly floated upwards and Sakura was starting to strain herself once again for doing this, but she was able to hold out longer than last time.
"Need to focus...gotta concentrate...more..." Sakura thought to herself as she continues to hold the crates up within mid air, Miranda was slightly impressed that the young woman was doing better, she can already tell that Sakura had much potential given that the young woman had training in her past life. Seeing that Sakura was doing well of holding up the crates the Cerberus oppretive would step back and around out of the pinkette's sight, Sakura had awaited on further instructions of what to do next but she didn't heard a word from Miranda and when she was about to call out the brunette haired woman a gunshot sound was made followed by a sudden impact pushed when Sakura's biotic barrier was hit that distracted her long enough to lose concentration and the crates dropped, "What the hell?!" Sakura screamed as she turned and saw Miranda holding up a Predator pistol in her hand.
"You won't be able to have time when on the battle field, there would be someone shooting at you and would not hesitate to kill. And your barriers need some work." the oppretive spoke as she fired a few more rounds which Sakura quickly raised her arms up an cross them in defense as the rounds would bounce off the barrier sheild around the young woman.
"And this helps by shooting at me? Are you crazy?!" the pinkette yelled and once more her answer was being shot at a few times by the oppretive until Sakura had to quickly duck and cover behind one of the crates she was lifting.
"If it helps keeping you focus on the mission, then yes. If we encounter the Collectors then you will need to be ready, if they are working for the Reapers like we've expected and you're not ready then WE already failed before-" as Miranda spoke she walked over and around the large crate that Sakura was hiding behind only to stop when she notice that the young woman wasn't there.
The dark haired woman would narrow her eyes as she looked around the Cargo Hold area for the young pinkette, it was when she turned around Miranda had to duck down to avoid the closed fist of Sakura's hand which in turn the young woman hit the crate that flew away upon impact and crashed into the steel walls. Miranda would roll herself forward and quickly got up so that she could spin around with her pistol drawn out but Sakura was already on her left side, wrapped an right arm around the Cerberus agent's left arm that held the pistol firmly in place, then the pinkette's thrust her left open palm hand to the elbow area hard which caused a loud bone snap sound that caused Miranda to scream in pain before the dark haired woman was tossed over Sakura's shoulder and land on her back hard to the floor. Sakura would look down at Miranda, whose left arm was dislocated in a slight angled out, as the oppretive would groan in pain with her eyes shut and her right hand nursing on her injured arm until the young pinkette would let out a sigh before kneeling down next to her. Miranda had open one eye in time to see Sakura kneeling down and she tired to move away but couldn't when she felt a hand on her shoulder to keep her sitll along with "hold still" comming out of Sakura's mouth when she spoke then the pinkette would grab the hand of Miranda's injured arm, for a moment nothing happened until there was a green colored biotic glow comming from Sakura's hand at first then Miranda's arm was soon engulfed in the glow while the dark hair woman would watched then wince slightly when she felt the slight poping feeling of her bone being put back in place.
"I know the stakes, I know what we must do to stopping the Collectors, but I won't just sit back and let others push me around with doubts on my abilities. This isn't my world or universe or where ever I came from, however I will do what ever I can to help." as Sakura explained this she kept on healing Miranda's arm until the biotic enery glow died down and let go, the Cerberus oppretive gave a slight test of moving her limb an was surprised when she felt it was feeling much better, " Now if we're done I need to go see the Professor, I've done what I can with your arm but don't overstrain it with work." Sakura told the older woman before standing back up then made her exit out through the elevator door.
Miranda would watch the young woman leave, then glance down at her arm that was healed an flexed her fingers in the process then glance over the wall where the crate that Sakura punched was inbound deep into the wall and was stuck there that would need some reapairs, " Hmm...perhaps we might have a chance after all." the Cerberus oppretive thought until she heard the sound of EDI's voice.
"Shall I inform an arrest for Ms. Haruno's actions Oppretive Lawson?" the A.I. asked while the brunette would stand up on her two feet.
" Absolutely not EDI, she is exactlly what we needed." Miranda said as she made her way out of the Cargo Bay herself and return to her room so she write a report to the Illusive Man.
Normandy: C.I.C Deck
Sakura was currently laying down on her back ontop a table within Mordin's lab, the salarian scientist was scaning the young womans body with his omni-tool as she had requested. Although she didn't mean to interrupt him when the pinkette saw he was working on something, Mordin merely brush it off and was more than happy to help out whatever he can, plus this gives them time to talk since their first meeting back on Omega.
"Hmm, interesting. Bio scan readings perfectly normal, no muscle tissue torn, brain waves undamaged, aside for picking up large readings of elemental zero in body your as normal as a human being can be...Compared to what I've seen." Mordin told the pinkette woman, though he pause to take a deep breath in before saying the last part, and Sakura's eyebrow twitch from the salarians fast talk but remembered that they had to work together.
"I'm not sure I want too know, so Professor does that mean I'm ok then?" Sakura asked when she notice that Mordin had now stop scaning her, moving over to his computer that he started typing on the keypad, then made a hand motion that Sakura can get up now.
"Theorectically yes, scans had shown positive results, but would need to run a few more tests just to be certain. I have never met someone from a different world or universe, very interesting indeed." the salarian scientist spoke, having brought up to speed on Sakura's origin, about everyone on the Normandy know it by now and yet they all treat her well, " Also interesting that can use biotics without implants like most human biotics, body had adapted to changes without causing damages possibly due the large amount of element zero but you seem perfectly fine Sakura. However would suggest finding something to maintain from biotics use being accidently active, will start researching ways when finished studying samples gathered from colonies from recent Collector hits...Recommend using biotic powers to a minimum level." Mordin said the last part after taking a breather again.
" Noted, thanks again Professor. By the way, any word from your assistant Daniel on how he's doing?" Sakura asked wondering how the young man back at the clinic on Omega was doing.
"Quite well. Safe and secure. Neighborhood mostly quite wth plague gone. Left him the security mechs, just in case, can't be too careful. Also tired of mechs, very noisy, never used them in STG." Mordin explained to Sakura while never taking his attention away from the computer he worked on.
"STG? Salarian Special Task group right, what kind of research did you do if you don't mind me asking?" the pinkette was curious now as she watch the scientist now move away from his work and turn to her, from what she could see a smile on his face.
"Many kind, though not simply research several recon missions. Covert high risk. Served under young salarian captain Kirrahe once, heard he was part of mission destroying a krogan cloning facility along with Commander Shepard two years ago. Always got job done with limited resources, good captain, bit of a cloaca though. Loved his speeches "Hold the line"! But personally prefered get job done and go home. Anyways my time in STG studied krogan genophage, took water, tissue samples from krogan colonies." as Mordin explained this Sakura would bring up her omni-tool to look up past article and found the topic when Shepard hunted down Saren and part of it involved a Krogan Breeding Facility that was destroyed on Virmire with the help of a STG group along with a article of Shepard's old teammate, Kaidan Alenko, heroic sacrifice.
"Can you tell me about the genophage Professor Solus?" the young woman asked, although she had read the article on the topic but since it was created by Salarians she would like to hear it from one, especially from a scientist like Mordin.
"Bio-weapon designed by salarian science team. Deployed by turians against krogans to end Krogan Rebellions more than a thousand years ago. Affects every cell in krogan body. Commonly and incorrectly considered a sterility plague. Actually adjustes viable fertility rates to compenstate for high krogan birthrate...Stabilizes to pre-industrial population growth levels." Mordin said after taking in some breathes once more, Sakura couldn't help but frown at this and made a comment that has been on her mind.
"Don't you think this is causing the krogan to go near extinction? It may not happen now, but eventually it could happen in the future." Sakura's question caused Mordin to frown a little and looked down away from the pinkettes eyes.
"Was not in the position at that time, but had little choice back then. Krogan Rebellions bloody, dangerous. Nearly as bad as rachni attacks. Genophage doesn't kill all krogan, wouldn't wish they would go extinct plenty potencial oppertunities, genophage just merely keep population in check. Not monsterous Sakura, all species evolve, adapt, mutate. But still if genophage weakens, need to be prepared for worst case scenarios. Nothing to worry about" as Mordin said this Sakura had a sudden feeling that she knew what he meant but didn't voice it out, checking her omni-tool once more to check the time until putting it away.
" I see, well I think I've taken enough of your time now. Nice talking with you Professor." the pinkette said politely to the salarian, Mordin would turn his attention back to his work before resuming to type away on the keypad.
"Should get back to work yes. Need to study. So much data, but here if you need me." Mordin said his farewells to the young woman before returning to work. Sakura would turn and exit out the lab through the doors that automatically open, yet before she step into the CIC deck Garrus was in view chatting with Kelly.
"And then Tali would said...Oh hello Sakura." the turian said when he took notice of the pinkette stepping through the doors before making her way over to him and the Yeoman.
"Hey sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt or anything. What were you two talking about?" she asked them which Kelly would answer her.
"Garrus was just talking about what the old crew from the original Normandy was like. It's amazing to hear from the point of view of someone that was with Shepard before." the red headed woman said before Garrus would speak once more.
"Anyway we can continue this another time Kelly, reason why I came was to see Sakura for a moment." he said politely to the Yeoman, which she would nod in understanding as the turian would guide the young pinkette to the elevator door, then once inside an hit the button leading to Deck Three he started talking again, "So from what I heard, Miranda was training you in the Cargo Bay on Biotics, and you ended up breaking her arm along with fixing it up." his words didn't surprise the young woman at all.
"News spread around that fast?" Sakura asked while rubbing the back of her neck as she waited in the moving elevator.
"Kenneth was making his way back to engineering from lunch when he saw it happened, then tells Gabby of what he saw and soon the whole crew knew it before Miranda put an end to the gossip. I'm pretty much surprise she isn't holding it against you, still it won't be long until Shepard gets a word from this." Garrus told her as the elevator stopped and open the doors for them to walk out.
"She had a gun firing at me, what was I suppose to do?" the young woman said in her defense as they walked through the mess hall and towards Main Battery where Garrus worked.
"I'm pretty sure the ammo was concussive rounds only, still atleast you healed her arm back into place. As I said before on Omega we have too work together, trust is possibly one of the key items in teamwork. Though to some...it's abit difficult." from the way Garrus said that put Sakura a little unease as the door to the Main Battery open up, " I just rather not lose anymore people, I've already dealt with that enough by having my own squad killed." he added with what sounded like a guilt, of all the times they talked Sakura had never thought of talking about Garrus team back on Omega before they met.
"Garrus, that wasn't your fault. There was no way you couldv'e known those mercs would attack your base." the pinkette had said but she saw Garrus shaking his own head in disareement.
"No, it was my fault because I didn't believe one of my men would betray me." at this Garrus turn and saw the puzzled look on Sakura's face an the turian would let out a sigh then started explaining, " You remember where we first met? One of my most trusted teammates, a turian named Sidonis, had asked for my help on a job. When I got to the meeting point nobody was there, and I waited for a hour or two for him show up, even sent out a message but still nothing. At that time I got fed up and made my way back to our hide out then that's when I ran into you." Garrus explained to her, now it sort of made sense to Sakura because in the past on her world she had her fair share of betrayals as well.
"Oh...but are you sure it was a betrayal? Maybe they took Sidonis out first?" she suggested, maybe it was all a misunderstanding, but seeing Garrus shook his head cause her heart to sink.
"No, I've put out feelers with some old contacts. He booked transport off Omega just before the attack. He also cleared out his private account before he left, he sold me out and ran Sakura. His trail vanishes after he leaves Omega, but I'll keep hunting I've lost my whole team except for Sidonis. One day I'll find him...and correct that." at the way he was speaking Sakura could tell, even if his face expression wasn't human, that Garrus was serious with his words, something that made remind her of a certain someone that once walked the path the turian was going through, "...I better get back to work, we can talk later Sakura." Garrus said calmly to the young woman before walking pass her and into the Main Battery. For a while Sakura said nothing and remain where she stood, it wasn't until a moment had pass that she looked over to the closed metal door that her friend went through an stared at it.
"...I won't let it happen to you Garrus." the pinkette thought to herself before heading to Medical Bay.
An half hour later: Engineering Deck.
Shepard's team had returned to the Normandy, they may had failed to recruit the krogan warlord Okeer but they had brought in a tank that held a live tank-bred krogan inside. Kasumi had immediatly went to Sakura and told all the details that had happened during the mission while Shepard, Jacob, and Miranda were up in the meeting room on CIC deck to talk about what to do with the krogan. Later on it was then that Shepard had announce that he released the krogan, who now called himself Grunt, and was now part of the team to help stop the Collectors. On another note Shepard had gotten wind of what happened in the Cargo Bay between Sakura and Miranda, while he wasn't too pleased with what had occured the Commander had thought that the two women should learn to work together by having them as his squadmates when they head to a turian prison ship Purgatory to recruit the convict named Jack. Before another hour for the next mission, Sakura had decided to task herself to checking the teams health to ensure that they were fit for duty, no way they would face the Collectors if they were sick or something. And her first patient would be the newest krogan crewmate.
The door to the Port Cargo opened as Sakura walked in with a data pad in her hand, though she stopped when the young woman watch as Grunt was beating against the steel wall...with his head only. Grunt himself stopped what he was doing when he noticed her, turning away from the wall that now had a dent, and just stared with those big reptilian blue eyes of his.
"...Grunt I assumed? My name is Sakura Haruno, I'm part of Commander Shepard's crew and would be your teammate during this mission." Sakura explained and the tank-bred would continue staring at her until finally speaking.
"Why would Shepard allowed a weak puny female like you on board? You wouldn't last long. " Grunt said to her before turning back to the dented wall where he resumed headbutting it, Sakura had a frown on her lips from that statement the tank bred made but non less proceeded what she came down to do.
"I just wanted to run a medical check-up, you know to make sure that you're healthy and not get sick or something." the pinkette said to the krogan, who would only snort at that while still beating his head on the wall, "And head butting to a steel wall is not a very good thing." she added as Grunt had stopped so he could reply.
"I don't get sick, I am pure krogan. Okeer spent most of his time making me learn of other aliens, humans being the weakess because they're too smooth and crush easily like wrapping a hand around thier necks and with enough pressure in the grip would snap an be no more." Grunt gave out the detail he learned while Sakura would frown more, before she could reply the krogan added, " Besides, our enemy might get a lucky headshot from how big your forhead appears." the remark had made the pinkette woman froze still for a minute until her free hand that wasn't occupied would clintch tightly into a fist with abit of biotic glow around.
A little while later, John stepped out of the elevator where he entered Engineering Deck. He had stop by Medical Bay first to see Sakura for a small chat before they would arrive at Purgatory, but would learn from Dr. Chakwas that the young woman was down in Engineering to look into Grunt. Given how the pure krogan had slammed the commander into the wall when first released from the tank Shepard became abit worried for Sakura's safty, so quickly he made his way down and would rush to the Port Cargo with the door taking little time process to open until it did and he was greeted with a strangest sight. Sakura was fine both physically an mentally it seems as she was holding the datapad in her hand that the young woman looked through, Grunt though had a large ice-pack on top of his head that he was holding in his three finger hand.
"Now just hold it like that and the swelling should go down within a hour or two, I would also avoid...oh Commander I didn't notice you had arrived! Just a moment please. "Sakura said kindly to the older man before turning back to the tank-bred, " Now just follow with what I said and you should be fit for duty, I also hope you learn to treat your teammates better am I right, Grunt?" she asked in abit of a sweet tone that made the krogan tense abit.
"Yes ma'am." Grunt replied rathered quickly and Sakura would nodded in accepting that.
"Good, I take it we're almost to our desination Commander? If that's the case I best go get ready, then meet you and Miranda over by the air dock on CIC." the pinkette said before she walked around an pass the older marine. Turning to watch her leave then disappeared when she turned towards the elevator Shepard would turn his attention back on the crews resident krogan in presence.
"Grunt?...Everything alright?" he asked being as the krogan had remained silent for a whole while, looking back and forth between the closed doors that lead out from his room and Shepard then after a moment of silence the tank-bred krogan spoke.
" Shepard...are you sure she's not a female krogan? Grunt asked him.
