Chapter 6

Normal POV

"Fay! Chii! Could you come here, please?" Sakura called from a window around the perimeter of her throne room. The two blondes had become fast friends and, now, they were nearly inseparable. It had already been a few months since Fay first arrived.

The princess walked back into the royal room, and a few moments later, the two young ones ran in laughing. They stopped in front of the green-eyed strawberry blonde and stared up at her with bright eyes and wide smiles. "You called for us, Sakura?"

"What is it?"

She smiled as she bent forward on her knees. "Fay, do you remember when I told you I would assign you a teacher to improve your magic skills?"

"Yes?" The blue-eyed boy nodded.

"Well, I am pleased to say that your teacher is here."

"Really?!" He looked around, then looked back at her and raised an eyebrow in confusion, "where is he?"

"Right here, child." Came an amused voice and the two children turned to see a black-haired woman, with red eyes, walking into view from the other side of the throne. She smiled. "Hello, children. It is nice to meet you."

"Are you my new teacher?" Fay asked, craning his neck to look up at her.

"Indeed I am."

"But, you're a girl." Chii added, blinking innocently.

"Chii!" Sakura scolded, surprised, at what she had said.

"No, no, Princess, it's all right." Yuko assured her before returning her attention to the young cream-blonde. "Little one, do you remember Mokona explaining what I was when you first met me?" Chii nodded. "I am the dimensional witch and possess great magic. In knowing that, I'd say I am quite capable in teaching a young magician." She narrowed her red eyes with a smile. "Even a young Chobit."

The nine-year-old girl blinked in surprise and pointed to herself. "Do you mean teach Chii?"

"That is correct." Yuko nodded.

"But, Yuko, don't you need compensation?" Mokona asked and the woman met its closed eyes with her burning red ones.

"Yes. The princess has paid in full for this wish."

"What?!" Chii exclaimed as she ran up to Sakura, clutching the strawberry-blonde's regal dress, and pleaded her with round, brown eyes. "Why, Sakura? What did you give up?"

"It's nothing to worry about, Chii." She reassured with a smile as she placed her hands gently on her head to comfort her. "This time, Yuko accepted money."

"Don't get used to it, child."

"I won't." Sakura giggled.

"Now, shall we get started?"

"Yes, please!" Fay said eagerly, while Chii just stared warily. The blue-eyed boy smiled at her and offered her his hand, "Don't worry, Chii. It's easy! I'll help you."

She stared at it for a little bit, then timidly took it. "Okay."

"All right, then." Yuko said, "Let us begin."

. . .

Hours had passed, but the three were still going at it. Fay handled Yuko's tasks with ease, but that was not the case for Chii. The dimensional witch now instructed the two to try anything that could produce any source of magic. Fay whistled and a pale blue light came from his mouth and swirled around them as it rose to the throne room's ceiling. Sakura had left them to their lesson and had gone to tend to other business around the palace. Yuko stared in content at the light as it rose in a wide spiral, while Chii observed with large, captivated, eyes as they caught its reflection brightly.

"It's so pretty!" Mokona commented from on her shoulder.

"Indeed." Yuko looked down at Fay, who smiled at the light fragments that drifted down after the light had dispersed. "Tell me, child, where did you learn that type of magic?"

"Oh, it was my old teacher." He replied scratching the back of his head.

"Interesting." Her red eyes drifted to the captivated Chobit. "Chii, it is your turn, now."

The cream-blonde gasped, blinking back into reality, then looked at her. "Right." She said softly as she nodded before turning her head again. She held her arms out in front of her, closed her eyes, and inhaled before letting it out again as she focused.

She wasn't exactly sure what she was supposed to do to made any form of magic come out, but she tried to focus on anything. Taking a deep breath and shutting her eyes tight, she squeaked as she pushed with all of her might to make anything come from her slender fingertips. But when nothing happened, she exhaled and opened her eyes to see her failure. She bowed her head and stared at the marble flooring sadly.

"It's okay, Chii." Mokona tried to comfort her, but her spirits weren't lifting.

"That's right." Fay chimed in and drew the disappointed girl's attention, "Not everyone's a master at first. I've been practicing magic for three years and even I wasn't the best at first." He smiled gently at her. "You'll get there, I promise."

The cream-blonde smiled a little, though her eyes revealed how upset she was in herself, "Thank you, Fay." He giggled in reply.

"Well, I think this was a successful first lesson." Yuko concluded. "Fay, I will see what else you are capable of next time, and, Chii," the Chobit tensed, but the raven-haired woman smiled warmly at her, "keep practicing until then. I'm sure Fay would be more than happy to help you."

"And she's correct about that." Chii looked at him as he smiled. "I'll help you out the best of my abilities."

"Mokona will help, too!" The small creature raised its paw with a bright smile.

After a moment, the Chobit smiled in reply. "Thank you." Her friends giggled back a little.

"Well, I'm afraid I must be off, now." Yuko announced, then bowed her head to Sakura, who was walking in by now. "Princess." The strawberry-blonde nodded back politely. "I will see you two soon enough." The witch smiled at the young children a glow swirled around her, before engulfing her, and leaving an empty space.

"Well, now." Sakura said, placing her hands on her knees and Fay and Chii looked at her. "What did you two learn today? Tell me all about it."

"Fay showed Yuko some things his old teacher taught him," Mokona explained as the four walked down the hallway. "Chii did her very best, but wasn't able to do anything yet."

Sakura looked back on Chii who was observing her small white shoes sadly. "Don't fret your pretty little head, Chii." The princess rubbed her head, "Practice makes perfect."

"Yeah!" Fay reassured and rubbed her arm. "And like I say, I'll be more than happy to help you in any way I possibly can, Chii."

"Thank you, Fay." She smiled a little.

"And you can count on Mokona!"

"I know. Thank you, Mokona."

"Yup, yup!"

"Well, how about we all talk more about this over some tea and cakes?" Sakura asked.

"I think that's a lovely idea!" Fay agreed.

"Mokona loves cake. Especially strawberry, no chocolate." It folded its paws with a puzzled look, "Hmm, actually Mokona can't decide. Mokona just loves all cake!"

Sakura giggled, "Well, you can have whichever you like when we get to the dining room."

"Okay, Sakura!"

"What will you have, Chii?" Fay asked.

"Whatever Fay is having!" She replied with a shy smile and hugged his arm.

He stared at her for a moment then giggled in reply, "I am honored to hear that, then." His friend giggled back and the four continued their way down the grand halls to the dining room.
