Doki Doki: New World
Chapter 7
A few days later
Jack
Sitting at a table in the local Inn, Rosalene was eating some weird spicy food she wanted to try. "Excuse me." I felt someone tap my shoulder. "Are you the one called 'Viper'?"
I turned to face him. "Where did you hear that name?"
"Uh...there was a girl going around saying that if they need help with anything, the mercenary thug 'Viper' can get the job done." he replied. I hadn't been called Viper since that whole bandit ordeal. "She said I'd know him by the dark cloak he wears and the scar across his face. You have to be him!"
"I never said I wasn't." I crossed my arms. "What do you want? Got a job for me?"
"Well, yes." he rubbed the back of his head. "Someone's been terrorizing my family, destroying crops and breaking farming equipment."
"If that's all he's done, that's not enough reason for me to kill him."
"No! I don't want him dead, just...roughed up a bit." he replied. "He's on the outskirts of this village. Near the forest."
I thought about it for a second. "Fine. What are you offering me?" He dropped a bag of coin onto the table. Looking inside, I was surprised to see silver coins. "This seems a bit much just to beat someone up." looking up, the man was already gone. "Huh...alright..."
Taking the coin, I stood up. "What? We're leaving now?" Rosalene asked.
"Yeah." I turned around and began heading for the exit. "Faster we get this done, the faster we can relax."
Heading for the forest entrance, I began looking around for... "Jack? Did that man even describe who we're looking for?" Rosalene asked.
"...no. He didn't." I suddenly got a bad feeling. "Keep your eyes open, I have a feeling we're-" hearing Rosalene gasp, I turned around and saw her fall to the ground, unconscious. "Rosa-" I felt something jab my neck. Pulling whatever it was out, I looked down to see a small dart.
Feeling my eyes get heavy, I fell to the ground. Before my eyes closed, I saw a pair of boots approach. "It's good to see you again." I looked up to see that bandit leader. "Viper."
Everything faded to black.
Waking up in a dark room, I saw Rosalene at the other side of the room, chains tied to her wrists. "Ros-" I tried to move but felt my arms restrained. Looking at my hands, I saw shackles wrapped around my wrists with chains attached to the wall.
"Don't bother trying to break free." I looked up to see the bandit leader approaching me. "Ooh, that scar really adds to your look. Makes you look more...mysterious." she chuckled as she knelt down to meet my eye level. She reached out to grab my chin but I quickly jerked away. "Aww, don't be like that." she grabbed my chin and made me face her. "Let me get a good look at that handsome face."
Suddenly, the sound of a door opening grabbed my attention. "Are you done, yet?"
I looked passed her to see the same man that tried to get me to steal that ring. "Almost." the bandit leader replied. "Just give me a moment."
"Hurry it up." the door closed.
"Aww, looks like our time is up." she looked me in the eye. "I'll be back in a bit, handsome." she started to lean forward. Trying to move back, I felt her lips press against mine, her tongue invading my mouth. She pulled away and smiled. "See you soon." she walked to the door and left.
Once the door shut behind her, I began pulling against my restraints. "Damnit! Why am I so unlucky!" seeing the chains weren't breaking, I used magic to create a fireball in my hand, throwing it at where the chains were in the wall.
The fireball caused some of the bricks in the wall to break free, and I was able to pull away. "Hell yeah!"
Hearing Rosalene groan, I rushed over and did the same to her chains. Picking her up I went over to the door and tried to open it, only to find it locked. "Damnit!"
"Jack?" Rosalene said softly.
"Hey, Rose." I smiled down at her. "We're...in a bit of a situation here."
She pushed herself from my arms, standing up on her own. "What kind of situation."
"We're...kind of prisoners. But don't worry, I'm sure I can get us out of this."
"How?"
Creating a fireball in both of my hands, I took a step back from the door. "I have a few ideas." throwing the fireballs at the door, I waited for the dust to settle, only to see I had done absolutely nothing. "Huh..."
"I hope that wasn't your only plan."
"Well, it worked for our chains." I told her. "This might just take a bit more effort." creating two more fireballs, I threw them at the hinges, but nothing happened.
"Great, we're gonna die here."
Hours later
Exhausted from using too much magic, I was sitting next to the wall with Rosalene. Hearing the door open, I looked up to see the bandit woman walk inside.
"Looks like you've been busy." she smiled. "Broke free from the wall and tried breaking down the door." she chuckled.
I rushed her and tried attacking with the chains, only to be knocked down by a gust of wind. Hitting the ground, I slid to a stop. "I wouldn't recommend trying that again, Viper."
"Would you stop calling me that?!" I shouted.
"You should be honored." she replied. "Only the greatest of warriors are given that title. And after seeing your skills against my bandits, you've definitely earned it."
Getting to my feet, she held the palm of her hand out to me. "I don't want your title! I want you dead!"
"Why don't you just join me?" she asked. "You could easily be one of the most feared people throughout the kingdoms."
"I'm not looking for fear!"
She sighed. "We'll see how quickly your mind changes when you realize no one cares for heroes."
"I'm no hero."
"You're no mercenary, either." she replied. "I'll be seeing you real soon, Viper."
"Feel free not to."
She turned to smoke and vanished.
"Let's go." Rosalene said, heading for the door. "I'm sick of this place."
Hours later
Making it back to our house, we had to make a quick stop at a weapons shop for new gear. "Hold still." I told Rosalene.
She closed her eyes as she held as still as possible. Raising the sword above my head, I brought it down on her shackles, breaking them off of her wrists. "Thanks." she said while rubbing her wrists.
"Yeah." I broke my shackles off before sheathing my sword. "What a strange day."
