Neil Wolowitz's POV
While I was working hard in my lab, I heard someone knocking on the door. I turned around to see it was my mother. I stopped what I was doing and smiled at seeing her here.
"Am I interrupting anything?" She asked me.
"No, you're not. What brings you to drop by here?"
"Can't a mother visit her son once in a while?" She asked innocently.
"Did you come here to see Dad?" I figured she would've first.
"I didn't even see him yet. I need to talk to you."
I knew there was something.
"What did I do?" That's always the first question to come to mind.
She rolled her eyes. "Don't worry. You didn't do anything wrong. Why do you always ask that?"
"It's always my go to question." I answered and she just shook her head.
"Anyway, I really need you to do something for me."
I looked at her curiously. "Like what?"
"There's this new promotion and I'm trying to get it. You know I've been working hard. I'm trying to get on good terms with my boss for this. We were talking at lunch about kids. He said that his granddaughter just had a horrible break up with her boyfriend and I said, 'Hey, I have a handsome twenty three year old son who is single. I think it would be great if they'd dated, don't you?'"
I chuckled that she was setting me up with her boss' granddaughter. As much as I kind of want to, I'm not so sure about it.
"I don't know..."
"Why not? You can't say no."
"Why?"
"I already told my boss that you'll be fine going on a date with her." She said and was worried for my reaction.
"What? Why?" I asked with unbelief. She didn't even ask me first!
"I need the promotion and you're going to help me whether you like it or not!" She was starting to use her angry tone with me. "Besides, you owe me."
"What do I owe you for?" I wondered.
"When I was pregnant with you, a woman went out of her way to steal my projects while I was on bed rest. So, now, you need to owe me." She crossed her arms looking superior...and I admit, intimidating.
"I don't know," I rubbed the back of my neck. This was a lot of pressure. "I mean, what if it doesn't go well? What if I don't even like her?"
"I looked her up on Facebook," Mom took out her phone and logged into Facebook. I see her searching for her boss' granddaughter. I saw the girl's profile and her picture. Her name was Fiona O'Connell. "She's cute, isn't she?"
Mom's right. Fiona was cute and blonde. Her avatar was of herself being surrounded by two of her other hot friends.
"Yeah, but-"
"No, buts! It'll be fine," She assured, but I still have my doubts. "The date doesn't have to be big or anything. Just go out for coffee with her or something. And it wouldn't hurt if you mention how great of a worker I am." She boasted.
I can't seem to get my way out of this. She already set this up. Maybe Halley was right that I am a Mommy's boy. If this goes wrong, it will go on me and will hurt Mom. Fiona looks hot, but I still have my reservations about this. I know I can't get my way. Even with Dad at times, he sometimes can't get his own way. Mom is the boss of the house. This is for Mom's job so I would want her to be successful.
Damn it...
"Fine! I'll do it." I gave in.
"Thank you!" Mom squealed. She kissed my forehead and hugged me.
"I knew there was another motive for you to come here." I said.
"What? No! That's not only it! Well, that was one of the reasons, but I came to see my baby boy." She brushed my hair and I rolled my eyes.
"How can I contact Fiona?" I asked her. Not knowing anything about this random girl.
"Just befriend her on Facebook and set the date up with her. It'll be no problem. You've went on dates before." She reminded me.
"I know, but it's been a long time since Rachel..." I sighed sadly being disappointed at how that turned out.
"I know," Mom said sympathetically.
Rachel was my recent ex-girlfriend. We dated for two years. I thought she was The One. But she had to move to Canada and she just wasn't up to start a long distance relationship. I decided to visit her (just as friends) for a surprise, but when I went into her home, she was already sleeping with a new guy right away after we broke up.
"Just try this one out and see how it goes. I know she'll report back to her grandfather about how the date will go well or not." She seems annoyed at that.
"Okay," I nodded.
She smiled widely. "Good! Here's a brownie and a copy of Deadpool 4 on Blue Ray for your cooperation."
She handed me the bag with the gifts inside. I beamed when I saw them. "Oooh! Thanks, Mom!"
After work, I've gone out with friends to a bar to drink and ate dinner. Next, I went home and I still can't believe that Mom was making me go out with her boss' granddaughter.
Ugh!
When I changed out of my work clothes into more comfortable ones for the night, I heard my laptop making noises from Video Chat that someone was calling me. I grabbed my laptop and sit on the couch to talk to whoever it was.
I saw that it was my sister. I accepted the conversation and see her face.
"Hey, Halley Berry!" I joked and she was annoyed as usual with it.
"What have I told you about calling me that?"
"I still think it's funny," I laughed, but got serious, thinking about how she could be having a baby. "So, are you pregnant?"
She looks down being ashamed. "Yes."
"Really?" I was shocked. I want to go over there and kill Jason right now.
She nodded, looking sad. "I don't know what to do..."
"Does Jason know?"
"Yes..."
"Is he going to help?"
"No..." She shook her head and that's when the tears came out.
Instantly, I became angry. "So, he's not going to help you at all? He's just going to abandon you?"
"Please, Neil, I don't want to talk about this right now," She cried. "I've been fighting with Jason for hours over this."
I sighed, trying to control my anger. "Fine. But you can't do this by yourself, Halley. Maybe you should come back home."
"What? No! I'm not like a little girl again! I don't want to quit my job!"
"Then, what are you going to do?" I asked.
"I don't know. But can you tell Mom and Dad? I can't handle another fight right now."
I couldn't believe what she was asking. "Me? You want me to tell Mom and Dad-"
"Please, Neil? You're my only hope." She did look at me like I was her last chance.
I can't help it when I said. "Yes, Princess Leia."
She gave me a look, but chuckled a little bit. "Thanks. How's everything going over there? Must be better than how my life is going."
"Actually, Mom decided to be matchmaker for me and hooked me up with her boss' granddaughter." I decided to tell her the story.
"What?" She was shocked and I let her know about the whole deal.
We talked for half an hour. I reassured her that I will tell our parents about her pregnancy even though I didn't want to. I eventually closed the conversation and felt pity for Halley.
I feel like I'm my mother's and my sister's little helper.
