#Chapter-7
New Beginnings
A/N- Okay so thanks to anyone who reviewed! I love you all. And to all those who didn't, there's still time. Okay so let's find out what new beginnings are revealed in this chappie! R&R!
'Mate you seriously gonna give up?' Sirius asked, not trying the Sirius Lee pun for the first time.
"Yeah mate, she's messing with my brains! I can't take it anymore! Sometimes she flirts with me and sometimes she makes it so clear that we're just friends! I'm gonna make a girlfriend, like, an actual girlfriend and see how it goes." James confirmed, his face in his hands.
This conversation was about Lily Evans, James Potter was finally giving up on her. He had been a bachelor long enough, hoping that his girl would come around. No, now he'd had it. He was giving up for once and for all. From today, the hunt for a girlfriend began. He would playfully flirt, and help girls with books and stuff. Anything.

-Breakfast-
"Hey, what's your name beautiful?" James asked, flirting with a girl on the Gryffindor table.
She was tall, 5'8. James himself was 6'0. She had beautiful blue eyes, slightly dark skin, like Indians and chocolate-brown hair. She was petite and shy.
"Hi. I'm Katherine. You're James aren't you?" She replied, a little timidly.
"Yeah, I'm James, James Potter. You have a beautiful name, Katherine. So, how come a pretty girl like you is sitting all alone?"
Katherine blushed. "I'm considered a nerd. No one comes near me. I'm a bookworm. So it's always me and books." She answered a little sadly.
"That's mean. So, what class do you have after breakfast?"
"Charms."
"Me too. Wanna come along with me? I'll sit with you today." James offered.
"Okay, I guess."
"Come on, then." He picked her books and got up. Katherine blushed and followed suit. They both walked out of the Great Hall, much to the fury of Lily, whom he hadn't even talked to. He'd just said Good Morning.

-few days later-
"Hey Lils!" James greeted cheerily.
"Hi! Finally you got time to talk to me, huh? I swear past 12 days, I hardly got to talk to you, either you're busy with Quidditch or Katherine."
"I'm sorry. It's just that I really like Katie."
"I know. But why do you like Katie?"
"She's pretty, she's funny, she's helpful, she's kind, the list just goes on and on. And Lils, actually, I'm here for some advice. I want to ask her out, and I need your opinion."
Lily's throat became tight and her eyes singed. The past few days without her best friend had been hard on her. Of course, the girls were there, but they were nothing like him. "I-I like h-her, i-if she makes y-you happy th-then you shou-should ask her out." She stammered, feeling as though she was going to break down.
"Thanks, Lils, you're the best." He hugged her and kissed her cheek, then ran off.
Lily collapsed against a wall, crying hard. She didn't know why, but her heart was aching, she thought of the many times she had turned him down. She thought about herself, him, them. How she turned down, what could have been a beautiful relationship and in that moment she knew, she knew that the past few days without her best friend hadn't been hard on her, the past few days without the guy whom she now loved and Merlin knows how long she had loved had been hard on her. Yes, she was scared to admit it, but she knew that it was the truth and the truth could only be denied for so long. She took a deep breath and stopped crying.
'This isn't going to help.' She thought. 'You have done this to yourself, he moved on. After all, how long do you expect him to wait? It's better for you if you also move on. He's hurt himself enough over you, now that someone is ready to give him what you couldn't, let him be happy. For once just, just let him be happy. I love him but he doesn't, simple as that. Just be friends and be there. As a friend, as his best female friend. Give him your love, but just in a friendly way. Care for him, but only in a friendly way.' She tried to convince herself but her brain started again 'You think it's gonna be easy?' her brain smirked.
'I know it won't be easy, shut up, I just want to try. I want him to be happy, because I love him, and when you love someone all that matters is their happiness.'
Unbeknownst to all this and blinded by his so-called love for Katherine, James asked her out, the very next day, right in front of Lily.
"Katie," he began nervously "you are the most wonderful girl ever and you make me so happy, I really like you, I promise I won't hurt you. Will you go out with me?" he looked at her hopefully.
"James, I like you too but I don't know if I am ready for a relationship. Yeah I know that I'm sixteen and I can date all I like but you know how I've never even had a friend and now from a friend to a boyfriend is a very big step."
"Katherine, look, I understand how you feel but just give me one chance, just one date?" he almost begged her.
"Okay," she hesitated "just one date."
"Thank you Katie. Really, it means a lot. I'll see you on the next Hogsmeade weekend outside the Great Hall." He told her sincerely but enthusiastically.
"Sure." Katie said and walked out. James ruffled and hair and grinned victoriously at his friends only to see the Marauders smiling, and the girls not even looking at him.
"She agreed." James told the boys unnecessarily.
"We know." Remus rolled his eyes.
"Good on you, mate." Sirius said not once looking away from his food.
"Congrats." Peter said quickly glancing at him.
James smiled and sat down to finish his porridge.
After finishing his porridge he looked around for Lily only to find her missing.
"Marlene?" James called. On receiving no response he got up and plopped himself beside Marlene and threw a brotherly arm around her shoulders, thus jerking her back to planet earth. "Back home?" he joked.
"I'm sorry, I was thinking about…" Marlene trailed off.
"About?" he prodded.
"Nothing, just…thinking." She lied unconvincingly.
James let it go and got down to the point. "Okay, so, say, where's Lily?"
"Oh, I think she went up to get some book she left in the common room."
"Okay thanks." James smiled and raced up to the common room. He entered the common room and his eyes darted around the room. He saw Lily sitting in a corner with her head in her hands. 'Strange. She seems to be…shaking. No wait, she's crying. Okay. Wait, what? Lily is crying! LILY IS CRYING!' James thoughts began to make sense as he rushed over to her. He kneeled down on the floor in front of her and took her hands in his own.
Lily looked up and saw James. Her heart skipped a beat. What was he doing here, right next to her, with concern in his eyes?
"Lily, what's wrong?" he asked her very gently and softly.
"Wrong? Why should anything be wrong?" Lily asked in an unnaturally high-pitched voice.
"Um, because you are crying?" James said
"Oh, it's nothing." She tried.
James got up pulling Lily with him. He sat her on the couch and sat beside her. "Don't lie to me Lils. Tell me, what is wrong? I'm here, right? I promise I'll be here, forever. Just tell me what happened?" he gently stroked her hand with his thumb.
"James, really, it's nothing important." She said with a shaky laugh.
"Lily, babe I know you. You never cry over unimportant things and don't say it's over studies, because even though the whole school thinks you'll cry if you even get half a mark less than full, I know better. It's something serious."
"Actually no, it's something James." She joked and clapped her hands over her mouth realizing what she just said. She tried to make a run for it but James pulled her back and she landed right in his lap. She quickly got off him.
"What? What is it about me that made you cry?" he asked.
"Nothing!"
'Enough gentleness. Now it's time for action.' James thought. "What is it, Lily?" he moved closer, his voice suddenly deep and husky. Yes, he had decided to seduce her into telling him.
"N-nothing." She protested but he could see her resolution melting away.
He thought for a moment and gently rested his hand on her thigh. "Come on, babe. Tell me. You know you want to." He said still using the seductive voice. It took a few more tries but Lily's resolution finally broke.
She pulled on his shirt collar and kissed him hard and passionately. Her hands found their way into his hair. To her utter shock and delight, James responded with just as much enthusiasm. His one hand tangled in her hair and the other on her back, he was just as passionate. After a few minutes they both realized what were they doing and sprang apart.
Lily was in shock and just said "Happy? You happened! I fell in love with you! I love you!"
