They entered the dark club, the music positively humming as the people swayed to the beat. Jane pulled Maura into her body, her arm wrapping around her waist so she wouldn't lose her as they shuffled through the crowded room towards the bar. Jane ordered a beer for herself and a fruity cocktail that she knew Maura would love. The blonde hesitated before leaning closer to Jane. This dynamic was new to Maura. She knew Jane hated other people touching her and she was generally ok when Maura touched her but she wasn't sure how much she could touch her as their relationship began to change. She wanted to wrap her arms around the detective and places kisses across her soft, tanned skin but didn't want to push her to do anything she didn't want to do. As soon as Jane had paid for their drinks, Maura no longer had to guess. Her long arm wrapped around her shoulders and pulled her flush against her sculpted body "We should find a table"

It was even darker in this corner of the room as they settled into a booth with their drinks. The brunette shuffled closer to the smaller blonde the longer they sat there. She used the excuse that it was too loud and couldn't hear the blonde… that was actually part of the reason but she just wanted to be closer to her friend. The conversation was the usual mix of seriousness and flirting as it flowed easily between them. Maura was in the middle of answering a question Jane had asked her until she felt fingers under her chin tilting her head upwards and she was completely cut off when Jane's lips pressed against her own.

"I'm sorry" Jane said as she pulled back, smiling sheepishly "I've been wanting to kiss you for a very long time and even more so since our last kiss and now that we are on a date, I guess I just need to kiss you now before.."

This time the blondes lips smacked into the detective's. It wasn't graceful or elegant. It was sloppy and uncoordinated but neither or the girls cared. They just needed to be with each other, their lips pressed together, tongues dancing with excitement, hands slowly exploring dangerous territory neither had been before. Maura's thigh tingled and it spread further upwards as the long fingers of a certain detective began to push up the hem of a dress and spread across inner thighs. The blonde pulled away from their kiss, gasping for breath as arousal shot to her core.

"Dance with me?"

They sauntered towards the middle of the room, pushing their way through the crowd of bodies. Maura's arms encircled Jane's neck as she turned to face the brunette. Maura's hips began to move, swaying to the dirty beat of the song. Jane just stood there, mesmerised by this angel as her hands rested on those glorious hips. They had danced together before but she had never seen Maura so relaxed and carefree. The dark red glow of the room made it easier for Jane to feel like she was alone with Maura. Her own body began to move as she was nudged into action. Jane wasn't much of a dancer so she moved her hips in time with Maura's. As soon as she had mastered that rhythm and matched Maura's pace, the blonde span around, her behind pressing into Jane's front. The detective couldn't quite put a word to what her friend was doing right now but she did know that it was hot and she would definitely need to throw out her underwear when she got home. The slim hips slid from her fingers and as she refocused her thoughts on what was going on in front of her, the blonde shimmied and dropped to the floor before coming back up displaying the most sensual and provocative movements Jane had ever had the pleasure of witnessing. This display of raw sexuality left Jane speechless. The doctor pressed herself against the taller woman again and started to grind onto Jane's leg, she reached behind her and laced her fingers into the back of Jane's before bringing both of their arms around her body. Sweat droplets began to form on tanned skin and her mouth had become dry. She wanted to get out of there and somewhere private with Maura. Spinning the shorter woman around she rested her forehead against the blondes, intent on getting close enough for Maura to hear what she was about to say, however the shorter woman had other ideas. She began to place tiny kisses along Jane's collarbones, making sure to leave a few marks. Her kisses began to move along Jane's throat where she could feel the reverberation of Jane's moans. The blonde curled her fingers into dark locks. She stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips to Jane's. Her tongue slid along the taller woman's bottom lip, asking for entry which was soon granted. Their tongues battled and explored until they couldn't continue the kiss any longer. This time Jane whispered directly into Maura's ear
"Let's get out of here."

Jane parked in her spot on the driveway as she always did and turned off the engine. Her hands firmly gripped the steering wheel as her mind whirred with possibilities of what could happen in the next few minutes. In reality she didn't want to go home. She wanted to go into Maura's home. Her home. She wanted to get in bed with the beautiful honey blonde. Not in a sexual way. She didn't want to mess up what will always be the most important relationship in her life. Though they had known each other for years, the step of calling the meal they had just shared a date was already a big step for the brunette and she wasn't ready to become any more intimate tonight. In all honesty she was exhausted. She hadn't slept since asking Maura out on a date a few nights ago and without Maura next to her the nightmares returned. Tonight she wanted to climb out of this car, change into her comfortable pyjamas and fall asleep with her arms wrapped around the blonde like she always did. She needed the rest of the night to be routine. But this day had been anything but routine. As this was their first date Maura might just want her space and send Jane home to her cold and empty condo. Even Jane's dog had moved into Maura's home and they had become a little family in their own unique way and it worked for them.

What if this wasn't working for Maura though?

"Jane?", curious hazel orbs were resting on Jane´s features.
"Uh yeah huh." Jane's voice was a little high pitched and scratchy. She cleared her throat and tried again. "Yes?"
"Are we going to get out of the car?"
"Oh yeah, right. Sorry."
The brunette climbed out of the car, grumbling to herself at how stupid she was. They walked together silently the few steps to Maura's door. Their hands brushed against each other's with each step and Jane could have sworn that Maura was doing it deliberately. She pushed it out of her mind as they reached the front door. Maura turned to face Jane, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips.
"I had fun tonight Jane. Thank you."
"You're welcome. I had fun too."

Maura beamed happily and reached into her purse to retrieve her keys and unlock the door. She pushed it open and stepped inside, removing her coat and shoes before heading for the kitchen. She returned only seconds later when she realised she hadn't heard the door close or the heavy footsteps of the detective following her.
"Jane, why are you still stood there?"
"I uh well..", Jane rubbed at the back of her neck, her gaze dropping to the floor, "well I wasn't sure if you wanted me to come in or if I should leave and I don't remember whether you said goodnight and the door is open and I should leave right? Ok I'll leave."
Maura had never seen Jane so nervous. Usually she was a calm and collected woman who oozed confidence. She quickly reached out for Jane as she saw she was about to retreat and clutched onto her hand.
"You're not going anywhere. You're staying here with me like you always do. Why would I want you to go? I can't sleep when you're not holding me." Maura blushed this time, not meaning to reveal that little secret that in fact made Jane's heart swell. Their eyes connected. Jane's wide smile caused Maura to smile in turn and as they stood there together, so close yet so far apart. As if in mere synchronisation they both leaned forward, noses bumped, eyes closed and smiles collided as they kissed. It was soft, tender and full of love. The kiss only lasted a fleeting moment but it felt like everything had slowed down. Nothing existed but these two beings whose hearts belonged together. Together they were one and everything made sense.
