Ethan followed Benny down the Grand Staircase as passengers made their way to the deck of the ship with their life jackets on. He could see smiles on their faces, as if everything in their perfect little world was still the same. Ethan could feel it inside him, things were horribly wrong. That's when Benny spotted the ship's creator as he rushed over to him.
"Mr. Andrews, what's going on?" Benny asked, pulling the man aside as the crew helped people outside and as other passengers went about their normal business ignoring the crew.
"Oh nothing Mr. Weir, just a simple drill is all. I recommended putting on your vest, it's a bit chilly out." Mr. Andrews said as he started to turn away from Benny who just lurched forward and grabbed his arm.
"Mr. Andrews, now I know I may not be the smartest person in the world but I sure as hell know when something is wrong...now please tell me what's going on." Benny said as Mr. Andrews just adjusted his collar and lead them over to a secluded corner.
"This ship, she's struck a iceberg and she will sink." Andrews said as Benny's mouth opened slightly as he looked at Ethan and then back to Mr. Andrews.
"How much time do we have?" Benny asked, a new kind of fear he hadn't felt before now gripping his heart.
"A hour, two if were lucky. She will go down by the head, now if you'll excuse me Mr. Weir." Mr. Andrews said, gripping onto Benny's shoulders slightly before turning and joining the rest of the crew as they assisted passengers out onto the deck.
"I've got to get back to my room!" Ethan said as he made a start for the elevator before he felt Benny grab onto his wrist and pull him back.
"Ethan, the ship's lower levels will be the first to be filled up. We can't go back." Benny said as Ethan looked him in the eyes and broke away from his grasp.
"I can't, I've got to go back to get something. I can't leave without it Benny, I just can't." Ethan said as he looked Benny deep in the eyes before the other nodded his head and headed with him.
Benny followed Ethan towards a main elevator as the attendee opened it for them and let them both in before closing the metal gates.
"Steerage." Benny said as the man pulled a lever and the elevator began to descend, both of them standing there watching as every floor slowly crept pass the door. That's whenever Benny heard rushing water as they made it to the lower floor before water began to pour into the elevator.
"Bloody hell!" the elevator attendee said as Ethan and Benny both got out of the elevator, the man hollering out after them to come back. "I'm going back up, I'm going back up!" the man said as he closed the doors and slowly ascended up the shaft. Benny just looked back as he watched the elevator disappear. He turned to look at Ethan who he could tell was terrified before he trekked forward, the water sloshing around them.
"We've got to hurry E, this water is rising fast!" Benny said as they got waist deep into the frigid cold water, his legs beginning to go numb.
"My room, it's just down the hall." Ethan said as he listened to the ship's interior begin to groan.
Benny trudged through the water alongside Ethan as they made it to Ethan's room before Ethan went about diving under the water.
"Ethan!" Benny hollered out before Ethan reemerged with a trunk in his hands as he handed it to Benny to hold as he opened it. "What are you looking for?" Benny asked.
"My mother's necklace. She bought me a opal necklace one year for my birthday, said she had been saving up since I was born to give it to me. I'm not going to let that sink to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. Ethan hollered out in excitement as he found the necklace and hung it up for Benny to see, a beautiful round cut opal shimmering in a silver chain. Suddenly the lights dimmed out, leaving them in darkness for a few seconds before the lights came back on.
"Come on, we need to get topside now!" Benny said as they both listened to the metal of the ships beginning to bend and groan with pressure. Ethan nodded his head before throwing the trunk aside and putting the necklace in his pocket as they trekked back into the hall.
"Shit! That way is completely flooded, are there any other stairwells?" Benny said, looking down the hall to see the way they had come was now churning with water up to the ceiling. Ethan grabbed Benny's hand as they moved further down the hall as the lights continued to flicker out before making turning a left to see a small stairwell blocked off with a iron gate. Ethan ran out of the water with Benny as they climbed the stairs and began to bang onto the iron before a passing crew member ran by.
"Help us! Please!" Benny screamed out, beckoning to the man before he finally reaapeared with a worried look on his eyes.
Ethan turned around to see the water rising up the stairs as the lights of the hall went out. He held onto Benny with fear in his eyes as the man fumbled for his keys to unlock the door, only to drop them and run off in fear as Benny screamed after him.
"Goddamnit!" Benny said as the water rushed around their feet as Benny knelt down and tried to reach through the iron gate to reach the keys.
Ethan could feel the water bite into his skin as it began to rise to their knee's and then their waist. He watched as Benny fumbled to reach the keys as he finally grabbed them. Ethan continued to hyperventilate as the water churned around them quicker and quicker until it was at their chest level. He watched as Benny dove underwater as the water eventually came to his neck before he watched the gate open up as he swam forward and Benny finally resurfaced.
"Let's get the hell out of here!" Benny said as they made their way up the other stairwell to their side, the water flooding the passageway behind them.
