A/N: I haven't updated this in so long, but I'm back from the major writer's block and have a clear idea of where I want this to go. I just wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for waiting and reading and I truly do appreciate all the support. I'm sorry for the short update but I found like if I added more (like the morning), it would end up being two chapters in one, and I wanted to save the Damon/Caroline 'real' confrontation for the next update after this one. However, I hope you all enjoy this chapter and have your own thoughts on everything. Please review and comment because I'd love to hear what you have all got to say! :) Enjoy.
Chapter Seven
"What are you doing here?" Caroline asked, her arms crossing over her chest as she looked at the man she thought she'd never see again.
"It's nice to see you too, Care."
Caroline's lips pursed at the sight of Tyler grin at her.
"What are you doing here Tyler?"
She watched him sigh before rubbing at his surprisingly exhausted face. Her expression softened, her hands falling back to her side.
"Why are you here?" Caroline asked a little softer now causing Tyler to smile weakly at her.
"I missed you Care."
Caroline sighed before letting her hand go roughly through her tangled blonde hair. She wasn't up for any more surprises for today. She was already overwhelmed with everything that had happened and she didn't want to face the man that had broken her heart and left without any source of communication afterward. She was done with all the frustration today.
"Tyler—"
"Can I come in?" Tyler asked, causing Caroline to sigh again.
"I don't think that's a good idea," Caroline stated before watching the man awkwardly move his weight from one leg to the other.
"Caroline, the way we ended things—"
"It doesn't matter anymore Tyler," Caroline interrupted Tyler a bit too harshly causing him to eye her with curious eyes.
Caroline shifted under his gaze not knowing exactly what to do. But before either of them could say another word a slurred yell rang from the drive way.
"Oh! Blondie! You're aw-ake!"
Caroline's eyes widened at the familiar drunken voice. Glancing between a confused Tyler and a drunken Damon who made his way up the stairs of the porch, she watched him lazily eye Tyler before looking back at her shocked form.
"Damon?" Tyler asked, clearly confused over the man's appearance.
Caroline watched Damon's gaze fall between Tyler and her. He then grinned but she could see that it didn't meet his cold eyes.
"So what… now you're fucking Wolfy too?" Damon asked, laughing bitterly causing Tyler's brows to furrow while Caroline's lips pursed. She knew what was going to happen next. She knew.
"What are you—"
"O-Oh, she didn't tell you?—Blondie—B-Blondie and I slept together," Damon grinned when Tyler's eyes brows arched high.
"Twice," Damon finished laughing at the sudden hurt plastering the man's face. He didn't even seem to notice Caroline's tense form a few steps away from him.
Caroline watched Tyler as he looked her way with no expression what-so-ever. She watched his jaw clench in her direction before he tore his brown eyes away from hers.
"Tyler—"
"Goodnight Caroline," Tyler said lowly before glancing at Damon's stumbling form.
"Tyler wait," Caroline begged, her voice wavering slightly as she could feel the sudden tears starting to form at her eyes.
Before she could urge him to stop, or follow him, Tyler moved quickly onto the sidewalk before slowly disappearing from her sight. Blinking rapidly to stop the tears from forming any longer, Caroline's attention moved to Damon who seemed to mutter under his breath.
Caroline's emotions overwhelmed her. She felt scared, tortured, lost, hurt and angry all at the same time. She had lost so much today and she wanted nothing more to than just claw her hair out of her scalp. She hated today and she clearly hated the man before her who seemed to have the biggest grin on his face. Her blood boiled at that grin.
Not even giving him another look, Caroline huffed in a shaky breath before moving past the drunken man and towards the open door once again.
"Blondie—"
Turning around quickly to face the man, Caroline tried her best in not ripping his head off his body. She could feel the tears starting to form in her eyes again and that didn't go unnoticed by the drunk.
"You're crying."
"Damon, do me a favour and never speak to me again," Caroline stated sternly before turning on her heels again when aiming to go through the door and never look back. She tried so hard to stop the tears from brewing but they wouldn't stop. The tears just wouldn't stop.
Her jaw clenched when he suddenly took hold of her forearm and she jerked back before nudging him hard in the stomach. She watched him stumble a bit and curse under his breath before she managed to slam the door long and hard in his face.
It wasn't until she was fully inside when she finally started to cry.
She cried.
She had lost so much today and she didn't know what to do.
Elena watched in awe when Stefan stepped in closer to her. She suddenly couldn't feel her legs that were barely hidden under the towel that wrapped around her. He gazed down at her and stepped in another step, his hand that once lay on her shoulder sliding down her arm causing her to shiver visibly. He grinned at that and her eyes narrowed at the grin.
She then watched him near her further and further and further. She didn't move or pull away. She just watched him; her lips parting at the feeling of his index finger trace her jaw and chin while his gaze bounced between her eyes and lips.
"Stefan—"
Elena's voice got cut off by the sudden feeling of Stefan's lips crash against hers. His lips, his taste, everything was familiar. The way he cupped at her face with his hands… everything was the same. She almost forgot that her Stefan wasn't present. This was Stefan with his emotions turned off, he didn't care for her. She was probably just a one night thing to pleasure his needs for the time being. Plus the fact that she wasn't exactly in the greatest state of mind at the moment gave him an advantage. But she wasn't going to be taken advantage by him. She wasn't going to let him use her.
But no matter how many times she tried to kick herself to snap out of it, the constant feel of Stefan's scent and taste around her, Elena couldn't help but kiss him back just as hungrily. She needed this. She needed her Stefan. Hands playing through his blonde hair, Elena felt one of Stefan's hands find the part of her towel that knotted from falling and Elena gasped against Stefan's lips at the feeling of him start to tug the towel slowly off her body. Her eyes widened as she came to realization of what was happening.
Hands finding his chest almost immediately, Elena pushed Stefan roughly off of her before slapping him hard across the face almost unknowingly. Gripping at her towel, Elena's eyes widened at what she had just done. Looking at Stefan whose body suddenly tensed under her gaze, Elena tried her best to ignore the numb feeling at her hand before finally managing to find her voice.
"Stefan I—"
Elena was cut off by a bitter and quick laugh escape the blonde before he rubbed at his neck with one of his hands. Looking over at Elena, Stefan's jaw clenched before he slowly walked towards the door of the bedroom.
Turning herself around so that she could eye his form when exiting the bedroom, Elena tried her best from not speaking up to stop her first love.
Freezing at the door, Stefan didn't bother looking back at the brunette before taking hold of the door knob.
"Sorry," Stefan stated softly causing Elena's shoulders to slump and expression to soften. But before she could say anything, he was gone, leaving Elena with her thoughts.
Damon could hear her crying from the other side of the door. Lips parting and eyes softening, Damon didn't know what to do. He frankly had no idea what had just happened. Tyler was back in town? Why'd he storm off? Why was Caroline crying?
Frustrated with his drunken self, Damon managed to shut the sound of her crying form on the other side of the door walk further into the house. Huffing in a breath, Damon slowly allowed himself to sit on the cold wood underneath him before resting his back onto the brick wall of the house's side behind him.
Not having the energy to get up and get his surprisingly guilty ass home, Damon sat there in the darkness of the night, simply listening to the sound of the woman he seemed to hurt repeatedly cry herself to sleep. He listened to her muffles as sleep finally took over and he couldn't help but sigh at the sound of soft snoring replace everything else. Just the sound of her peaceful state caused sudden tiredness to form within Damon but he didn't dare move from his position on the porch of Caroline's house as he slept.
He slept with his head against her door, drunkenly muttering a slow apology under his breath before resting his head against the front door of the house.
"I'm sorry Caroline…"
He slept.
