Author's Note: Hey guys! I'm so glad to continue writing "A Real Girl" after this hiatus. I just finished my fourth semester as a college student and I've been working nearly full-time in retail. ANYWAY, as the story progresses, I plan to message some of the reviewers to get some personal feedback; your feedback/ideas could very well be a part of the story, so please keep reviewing! To add, I recently discovered that there is a channel on Youtube that is in the works of making fan-made episodes for "season four and five"; the channel's name is MLaaTR Rebooted! Alrighty, here's the description!
Jenny has made the decision to become a human in the last chapter and we're going to continue from that spot. How will the experiment turn out? Will Jenny finally know what humanity is? I do not own "My Life as a Teenage Robot," Nickelodeon, or anything else related! Enjoy! :) ©
"...Sheldon? You there?" Jenny called out from the communication device. Brad fell back onto the bed as Sheldon scurried towards the device.
"I'm here. Jenny...are you sure that you want to go through with this?" Sheldon asked cautiously.
"I feel like this is the right thing to do; I know that Fleur would have wanted this" Jenny said. Brad leaned forward to listen in, his eyes focused on the mobile device.
"Fleur? Who the heck is Fleur?" Brad thought.
"You're not wrong though. What date do you want the experimentation to be scheduled for?" Sheldon asked, "There's no rush or anything".
"Immediately".
Two Days Later...
Mechanical and medical tools were laid out on a table nearby the two experiment tables. Sheldon took a look at the one table, knowing that his childhood friend would lay there, who could possibly reawaken as Jenny. The other would possess a potential lifeless robot; the ultimate sign of power, innovation, and strength.
"Even if the experiment would work, would this give me the upper-hand in making Jenny like me?" Sheldon thought to himself.
Nora closed the shutters in her workshop as Sheldon prepared for the experiment, trembling in nervousness. He walked towards a sink, washed his hands, and strapped on medical gloves, which stung a little on his skin. After a few minutes or so, Tremorton's official coroner and medical examiner entered the workshop with a group of men, who were holding the lifeless body of Fleur, which was covered by a white sheet. The men placed the body on the table and shortly left afterwards, leaving the coroner in the room with Nora and Sheldon.
"Dr. Wakeman, I presume you have everything in order to go ahead with this...procedure?" the coroner asked, "I will be in attendance so that I will make it official that Fleur did not die-".
"Yes, Mr. Coroner, I think we have all our provisions in check. I can assure you that Jenny will transition over just fine" Nora said with some annoyance.
"Oh, of course Dr. Wakeman," the coroner responded, "And what about you, Mr. Lee? Are you prepared?"
"I believe so, thank you" Sheldon stated. The coroner nodded, exited the room, and he found a seat in the observatory room, glancing in the room. Nora finished sanitizing her tools and she walked to the living room. Thoughts flooded throughout her mind, about her little robot who she considered as her own flesh and blood.
Flashback
The motors of Nora's motorized anvil began to slow down as she turned off the machine. She looked at her creation with a smile and with a flip of a switch, Nora turned on the invention. She took a step back, with clipboard in hand, in response to the gears that rotated inside the creation. Nora waited a moment.
Silence. Absolute silence.
She cast her head down in disappointment as she looked down to her clipboard, which had procedure notes on it.
"Maybe the next prototype will actually work. I was really hoping for this to-"
"Mom?" a voice called out.
Nora looked up to see her creation sitting on the edge of the table, smiling at her. The brand-new metal shone in the light of the fluorescent lamps, each screw reflected the light all around. Nora grinned and walked over to the table.
"You are Global Robotic Response Unit XJ-9. Your task is to those who threaten the earth and the galaxy from those who commit crimes against humanity and those who exist in our galaxy. In order for the public to not go into a pandemonium, you must-"
"Mom?"
"Yes, XJ-9?"
"Do I have to be called XJ-9?"
"It's how I programmed you," Nora retorted, but she noticed the look on her creation's face, "Your nickname will be J-9".
"JEH-nee"
"No, XJ-9. It's just J-nain," Nora corrected, "Well, now I think about it, Jenny sounds better. Do you like it, Jenny?"
"I love it, Mom," Jenny stated, "Like how I love you!"
END FLASHBACK
Nora held back tears as she finally entered into the foyer, where Jenny, Brad, and Tuck sat in a love-seat near the corner of the room.
"XJ-9? Are you ready?" Nora said aloud. Jenny rose from the love-seat, but she felt Brad grab her hand before she took a step.
"Are you sure you want this," Brad asked, "If there is anything we could do to try to make it easier on you as a robot, I'll-"
"I'm positive," Jenny said as she pulled her hand away from Brad, "This is what I've always wanted". She walked towards Nora with a smile on her face, but she noticed the bags under Nora's eyes.
"Things will be okay, Mom. I promise" Jenny said, picking up Nora's chin.
"It's going to be really different once you're human," Tuck said, "You'll still hang out with us, right?"
"Of course! If anything, I'll be able to hang out with you guys a lot more often than now" Jenny assured. She waved at them and left the room with Nora hand-in-hand. Jenny felt her mother's hand tighten as they neared the workshop.
The door opened slowly, the light from the hallway spread out from the doorway into the workshop. Sheldon looked up to see Jenny and he felt a chill go down his spine.
"No turning back now. I hope I do this right; I can't make any risks here" Sheldon thought to himself. Jenny noticed the hospital-like setup and she saw the coroner looking at several folders of information.
"Ah yes, you must be XJ-9," the coroner stated, offering a handshake to Jenny.
"Jenny, please," she said politely, shaking his hand in return. Jenny saw Sheldon wiping down a table with some cleaning solution. She walked over and she saw her reflection of herself in the table.
"So, this is it! You ready Sheldon?" Jenny exclaimed while tapping him on the shoulder.
"For the most part I am," Sheldon whispered softly, "I will be honest, I am a little nervous about the procedure".
"Well, I fully believe that you can do it. I believe you can do it," Jenny said while subconsciously caressing the side of his face, "Let's do it".
Sheldon blushed heavily as Jenny shifted herself onto the table. Nora turned on a computer nearby the experimentation area and she fully uploaded an interior photo of Jenny's hardware onto the monitor. She walked to Jenny with a clipboard in hand, which held the original blueprints for her creation.
"XJ-9, I am about to put you in the COMA mode. It'll be just like charging yourself, only that your motors will slow down to almost a sleep setting," Nora explained, "Once the transfer goes through successfully, then I'll...turn you off".
"Mom?"
"Yes...Jenny?"
"I love you," Jenny stated. Nora choked a bit on her breath, but looked at her robot-daughter with love. To avoid the chance of crying in front of Jenny, she flipped a switch on Jenny's neck.
Before her vision became hazy, she heard Nora whisper "I love you too" and she fell asleep.
The Procedure
Sheldon pulled off the drape from Fleur's body and he examined it. He checked her nose, mouth, and ears to see for decay; fortunately for him, there was no sign of the body decaying. He hooked up an IV needle to the right wrist and he turned on the heart monitor. Next, Sheldon looked through the past medical records for Fleur.
"According to the pathologist's records, Jenny's white-blood cells need to be lowered to at least 7.5 billion cells. As far as her red-blood cells, she needs the levels to reach at least 4.2 trillion cells. With the help of the motherboard, the bad cells will be taken down" Sheldon thought to himself. He walked over to the refrigerator and he pulled out several bags of blood, which he put on a tray next to the table. After an hour, the blood became room-temperature and it was time. Sheldon took one bag and hooked it up to the other side of the IV pole and he attached the catheter to the bag. Nora took down procedure notes dutifully, making sure that she wasn't forgetting anything nor leaving out important items. Sheldon noticed her taking down notes.
"It wouldn't hurt having Dr. Wakeman assist me. She knows Jenny from the back of her hand practically; she made her" Sheldon thought to himself.
"Dr. Wakeman? Would you like to be involved with the experiment?" Sheldon asked aloud, which made Nora pop up from her clipboard. Nora nodded in response and she passed the clipboard to the coroner, who took over writing down the procedure.
Nora began to unscrew a few bolts from Jenny's head as Sheldon opened up his medical books. He turned to a page that had a picture of brain anatomy. Meanwhile, Nora opened up Jenny's head and she began to search for Jenny's "BRAIN". She grabbed what seemed to be a motherboard that was transferred inside of a SD card and she laid it out next to Sheldon. He grabbed the piece of technology and he encased it in a plastic covering, setting it aside. With a scalpel, Sheldon made a small incision towards the edge of the crown of the head and he opened up the incision slightly. He took a pair of medical tweezers which had microscopic cameras built inside of the tool and he picked up the motherboard. Slowly but surely, Sheldon guided the tweezers inside of the head while watching the playback from a monitor nearby. He reached the frontal lobe and he implanted the device in the middle of the head. Once it was inserted, the device latched onto the brain, connecting itself to the chambers of the skull. Sheldon exited the skull and he placed the tweezers on a side table. He took a sewing needle and thread and he began to sew up the incision.
Nora turned towards the computer screen and she searched for the program to prepare for the initiation of brain waves. Sheldon checked the hemoglobin levels from a new blood sample; a 12.5 level was shown in the test results. From there, he pressed towards the next stage in the experiment, gaining self-confidence in his work. Nora clicked on the button "INITIATE SELF-HELP", which began the self-cleansing of the body. From the screen, she monitored the device and how it sent out microscopic droids throughout the body.
"Sheldon, it's fixing the mutated cells that the leukemia tampered with. For all we know, this could very well be a cure for leukemia-" Nora said.
"This is good," Sheldon chuckled with a grin, "Now no one has to face that torment". He looked upon the body, noticing how the mouth was relaxed.
"I hope she went peacefully. Fleur was always such a good person. And to think she gave me the opportunity to do this for Jenny is mesmerizing" Sheldon thought to himself.
Finally, Sheldon turned on the Automatic External Defibrillator and he turned towards the body, attaching electrode pads to the chest. The coroner took a step back instinctively while Nora was in awe of what was about to happen. He pulled her back immediately.
"Clear!" Sheldon called out as he switched on the SHOCK button and pressed it down on the chest.
Silence filled the room as the flat line stretched across the monitor. The worried look on Nora's face made Sheldon break out in a nervous sweat. For the next two minutes, he performed CPR on the body, hoping with all of his might that maybe the chest would rise and a heart beat would be present. Nothing.
Sheldon switched on the SHOCK button, crying out "CLEAR!" and pressed it down. No heartbeat. He began CPR once again, his frustration clearly seen by the coroner, who approached him.
"Mr. Lee, I think it's time you stopped-"
"I don't understand why it isn't working! She should be good-"
"The procedure couldn't be completed, Mr. Lee. I'm sorry. I don't know if there is anything else" the coroner stated. Nora sunk to her knees with tears rolling down her cheeks.
"My little girl... she's gone".
