NALA'S POV
I fell asleep, alone for the first time, cold. I dreamt. I dreamt of sunlight and stars. I dreamt of Simba and his son. How did I know the cub I was carrying was a son? I also dreamed of doom.
Flashback to dream:
"Nala, Nala!" a voice cried, sounding so familiar. It was a male's. A pale, creamy lion with a large brown mane was running toward me. He had green-blue eyes.
I looked back. Why did he look familiar…unless…"Father!"
"Nala," Runju's voice sounded like a whisper. "Consider this a warning."
"What? What warning? What's wrong?" I blinked at him, trying to nuzzle him, for I missed him so.
"Don't touch me!" Runju snapped, and I flinched back, hurt. "In dreams, you cannot touch those who love, for then they will vanish," he said, a bit gentler. "I have limited time. Listen to me!"
"I'm here, father," I murmured.
"Good. Now, listen. This cub, Simba and yours' cub, something will happen to him. Grave things, surprising things but most of all, betrayal. Be careful. Watch your borders. That is all I can tell you."
"Father, what do you mean? Who's betraying who? What? No, Father, don't go!" I wailed, but as I struggled to race after him, the wind whipped me away and I woke up screaming.
"Nala! Wake up! You're having a nightmare!" someone's voice dragged me back to reality. Still bleary from sleep, I wondered who it was.
"Simba?"
The voice chuckled. "No. It is old Rafiki. You miss him, no?"
"Oh, hi Rafiki," I laughed as I sat up. "Yeah. Where is he?"
"Ah, Simba is still out, taking care of de kingdom!" Rafiki exclaimed. "I have come to check on de cub. He is vedy healthy, but you are still early into your pregnancy, no?"
"Yeah, I just found out yesterday," I replied. "So it is a boy, then?"
"Yes! Congratulashuns!" Rafiki warbled, smiling broadly. "You still have about one and a half moons to go, but if you have any questions you ask old Rafiki. Understand?"
"Of course." I wondered why he was frowning.
"What's the matter?"
"Oh, I see grave happenings to dis little one." Immediately my blood froze. "Relax!" he laughed. "We can prevent dis from happening, but keep a lookout on dis one," he warned me. As he exited the cave, I wondered if that was all a dream.
"Nala! Are you alright?" I was so relieved to hear Simba's voice I broke down sobbing. "What's wrong?" he frowned, ran over to me and started caressing my face with licks.
"I've gotten about three warnings about our son," I sobbed into his mane. He broke into a smile.
"It's a boy?"
I laughed through my tears. "Yes, it's a boy."
"That's great! But warnings?"
"Runju came and visited me in a dream," I explained.
"Runju? Your father?" Simba's eyes shot up into his mane.
"Yes. He warned me about our son. Betrayal and something else. Then Rafiki came and checked on me and also warned about 'grave happenings.' He said to keep a lookout on him," I replied, worriedly looking into Simba's eyes.
"It's okay, Nala," he soothed, licking my ear. "I promise I won't let anything happen to you or our son."
With those words, I fell asleep.

SARABI'S POV
I had started to feel sick slightly before Nala announced her pregnancy. I didn't mention it to anyone, but as time progressed, the symptoms got worse. I was dizzy, nauseous, tired, and hungry all the time. One day, as Simba came home from patrol, I simply fainted in front of him. How embarrassing! I was taken to Rafiki immediately.
NARRATOR'S POV
Months passed and Nala began to show obvious signs of her pregnancy. The pride often whispered behind her back about whether it was a boy or girl.
Today, Nala is outside, sunning herself near the grand waterhole. Oh, look! It's a beautiful day. Simba is out on patrol with his cousins Tojo and Alex. She is alone, even though Simba ordered a guard with her at all times. That is the beginning of his growing troubles.
Nala suddenly—what is she doing? She's lifting her head up, confused. Her swollen belly will only allow her to do so much, so she looks like she's trying very hard to get up.
Hey! You hear that? It sounds like growling. Oh, you wouldn't want to miss this. It's Nala, baring her teeth at someone who looks very familiar.

SIMBA'S POV
I was on my way back from patrol, a couple of months later. As usual, I was hurrying home because I was very stressed about Nala and the cub these days. You never know when it might happen! Suddenly near me I heard growling and snarling. Then I heard yelling.
"What are you doing here?!" it was Nala's voice, trying desperately to sound calm and dignified. Immediately I wheeled around to my companions.
"Guys! One of you, come with me. The others, go back to Pride Rock, take care of my mother! She's sick! And send reinforcements, Zazu, and protect the cave. GO!" They all scrambled back except for Alex. He grinned at me.
"I'm with you, bro." We went together toward Nala's voice.
ALEX'S POV
I could understand Simba's concern for Nala. After all, he was going to be a father very soon. But really, hallucinating Nala's voice snarling and yelling kind of goes over the line—or so I thought.
We ran toward the place where it seemed to be coming from and we both had the fright of our lives.
NALA'S POV
"What are you doing here?!" I screamed at the figure in front of me.
It cackled; deep and sensual. "Oh, my dear Nala! How nice to see you again! I see that you're carrying…a little…something there!"
"You should be dead!"I hollered back, stepping back a step. Suddenly I heard rustling behind me and spun around, only to see a shocked Simba and Alex.
"Thank the kings you're both here!" I exclaimed. Simba and Alex were both too shocked to say anything. The figure cackled.
"Hello, nephew."
