Clary POV

She couldn't sleep. Even though Raphael didn't breathe, she could still tell if he was asleep or not and he was definitely asleep. His body was comfortably relaxed against hers; as if the day/night took ahold of him. Clary peered up at him. The tense, alert face that she was used to seeing had disappeared to a peaceful, relaxed one. Being the head of the Vampire Clan must be a lot work, plus with the relationship he had with her and the Hybrids going about the city. This must have been his chance to finally relax.

Clary put her forehead against his chest and closed her eyes, hoping the sleep would get to her but it didn't. She groaned in frustration.

"Having trouble falling asleep?" her head jerked up to see Raphael looking down at her.

"Can you tell?" she asked him.

"What's on your mind?" Raphael asked softly while caressing her back. It sent shivers up and down her spine but she took a breath and answered his question. "Everything."

"Don't stress over it, okay," he reassured.

"I wish that I could. Everything's going in different directions; my mom and Luke being attacked, the Hybrids, Jeremy, our relationship," she whispered. Clary didn't dare to look him in the eyes yet.

"I understand what you're going through but for now, don't think about it. Just relax, preciosa, everything will be fine in the future," Raphael said.

A part of her wanted to believe him but there was the other half that didn't. How many times had she been told that everything would be okay later? After getting the Mortal Cup and giving it to Hodge, she ended up bleeding and finding out that Valentine was her father. After the scene in the Seelie Court, Simon got turned into a Vampire. After trusting the imposter, Sebastian, that ended up killing Max in Idris.

Clary didn't want to here lies anymore. What would happen if those Hybrids came to the hotel and killed the Vampires here? Would everything be fine?

She wanted to tell him that everything wasn't going to be okay but she forced her mouth to stay shut and nodded to his reassuring comment.

"What are we going to do tomorrow?" Clary asked him.

"May as well go to Magnus's, he might have some answers by now," Raphael answered, she nodded. "Go to sleep, preciosa," he kissed the crown of her head. And just like that, she fell to sleep.

Magnus POV

It took them at least an hour to get to the hospital which made Magnus pissed since he could've went to the store and bought more glitter supply since the ones at home were starting to get used up.

Maryse was the first to come in the room and look around till she spotted him. She made her way quickly over to Magnus while the rest of the Clave and helping Shadowhunters filed into the room.

"Are you going to explain?" was the first thing she asked in her usual business tone.

"It's nice to see you, too," sarcasm wasn't the best thing to be doing right now but he couldn't help it. Maryse sighed with impatience.

"Maryse, do you know who Jeremy Blackwell is?" Magnus asked now, being serious.

Her face tightened up a bit and then shook her head, "Not someone that I know but maybe others here will. I've heard of the name Blackwell but Jeremy Blackwell, no."

"Well, Jeremy may have been doing tests on these Hybrids to find a cure for them but as you see, one of them killed him and disappeared somewhere," Magnus explained. He told her every single detail that he knew of and finished off with a dramatic sigh.

"I'll go tell the Clave," Maryse hurried to the new Inquisitor, who happens to be Jia Penhallow. While everyone was inspecting the place, Alec made his way over to his adoring boyfriend.

"Hey," Alec greeted. Magnus smiled at him and greeted him back. He watched as Alec's piercing blue eyes scanned the scene in front of him. It wasn't much of a scene but it was still important.

"What happened here?" Alec asked Magnus but not looking at him as he asked it. Magnus sighed and explained everything to him. Alec's eyebrows furrowed as Magnus talked about the Hybrids, Jeremy, and everything else.

"How could one Shadowhunter kidnap so many powerful Hybrids? I'm not trying to be disrespectful to the, uh, dead but Jeremy doesn't look like the strong type," Alec did have a point.

"Maybe he found something, like a weakness or a time when they are weak, and used it against those things," Magnus suggested. It did seem like a high possibility that there was some kind of weakness that Jeremy found but what was the weakness?

They watched as the Clave scoped out the scene.

"I think I'm gonna go home, I've been in this dump too long," Magnus said to Alec.

"Okay, I'll text you later," Alec said and walked off to help.

Magnus yawned and clapped his hands, making a dramatic exit. He knew it wasn't necessary but if you were Magnus, there would always be a dramatic exit.

Raphael POV

It was around nine in the morning that he woke up. It was way too early to be awake but Raphael always woke up early. It was a habit; his mother used to wake him up early for school or work at his cousin's auto shop down the street.

Raphael carefully untangled Clary from him and got dressed. She tossed a bit till she got in a comfortable position. He watched her sleep for a while and although he admits it might be creepy of him doing so, he like how serene she looked when she slept. No stressing, no problems; just peaceful.

Raphael exited the bedroom and into the living room and sat on his desk chair. He grabbed his phone and dialed Magnus's number. It wasn't strange that he had his number; practically every Downworlder knew Magnus, not just because he was the High Warlock of Brooklyn but for his extravagant parties he hosted.

"Why are you calling at nine in the morning," Magnus complained. Raphael rolled his eyes.

"Well, sorry if I ruined your beauty sleep; I just wanted to know if you found anything yet," Raphael.

"That's all?"

"This is important okay. So did you find anything?" Raphael growled.

"Come by in the afternoon and I'll tell you two what I found," Magnus said and hung up. That man sometime pushed Raphael's button for patients.

Raphael sighed and got up. He left his room and down the hall to Elliot's room.

Raphael didn't need to knock on the door to be let in since Elliot never locks his door, so he let himself in and when he turned around he saw a sight that amused him. Elliot was on top of a girl with sandy hair and was clearly making out with her. Raphael waited till they saw him but it was clear they weren't gonna see him. He cleared his throat and Elliot's head whipped up. The girl that was under Elliot pushed him away and dashed out the room, obviously embarrassed that the head of the clan caught the two in such a position.

"Watcha doin' here, man?" Elliot asked Raphael

"I always come here in the morning," Raphael answered.

"Yeah, I know. The one time that I wish you knock on my door, you interrupt me," Elliot gave a short laugh.

"What were you doing with her anyway?"

"I was tryin' to get laid tonight," Elliot answered.

"I don't think you understand what I'm saying. I meant what are you doing with her, I thought you were with Elizabeth?" Raphael sat next to his friend and gave his a skeptical look.

Elliot sighed and shook his head, his dreads bouncing. Then said, "It wasn't workin'; we're two different people that like different things and do different things."

Elizabeth and Elliot were the closet friends that Raphael had in the hotel; he relied and trusted them. Raphael knew that the first time Elizabeth and Elliot met each other, there was something between the two.

"You two could've at least tried to understand each other even with your differences," Raphael said.

"Oh? Says the guy that's trailin' after a Shadowhunter. Plus, she's white, no offense or anything, I would've thought you go for Latina's here," Elliot told Rapahel.

Yeah, it's unusual for me to be with a gringa, but she's special, Raphael thought to himself.

"If you understood, you would know how I feel. Speaking of feelings, how did you break it to Elizabeth?" Raphael asked. The last time he saw Elizabeth was when he went to her room to ask for some clothes for Clary. She looked happy, not upset or anything.

"She thinks we're just taking a break and then we're gonna get back together," Elliot gave a scoff, "She just didn't understand."

"Have you talked to her about it?"

"No, man, I just don't want to deal with the drama right now," Elliot gave an irritable sigh. Raphael put a hand on his best friend's shoulder.

"You'll figure it out, amigo," he reassured.

Elliot got up and looked down at Raphael, "C'mon, I need to get my mind off of things right now. You wanna go get the others?" Raphael gave a smile and got up.

"Let's go then," was all he said.

Clary POV

She woke up to the coldness that was next to her. Clary opened her eyes to see that Raphael wasn't next to her. Where had he gone to? She sat up with the sheets covering her body. His clothes were gone but hers were still arrayed in the room. Clary gave a sigh and got up and got dressed.

What now? Clary had no clue on what to do next. Was she permanently going to stay at the hotel or go back to the Institute? Now, she was wondering where Raphael was; he had the answers to her questions.

Clary looked around the hotel room but did not find him anywhere. Did he leave? Clary walked to the living room and looked at the door that exited the room. Would I stay here and wait for him or go search for him and possibly get jumped by a stray vampire that was hungry? Clary knew she wasn't going to do the latter, so she plopped on the couch and looked around. There was no TV for her to watch, her phone was somewhere so what could she do? Clary spotted the book that Raphael was reading yesterday.

She picked the book up and looked at the title: A Tale of Two Cities By Charles Dickens. She did not know that Raphael liked classics. Clary remembered Simon had complained to her that he had to read this book for his English Honor class and thought the book was that boring. If Raphael said it was a favorite then maybe it was good.

Clary opened the book to the first page and started to read.

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was…"

Raphael POV

He held the cue stick with hands that have been playing this game his entire life. He lined the pool balls and struck and he gave a triumphant smile. The pool ball fell into the hole while the white ball that hit it moved to a stop.

Raphael heard the others give a sighs of defeat while he grabbed the chalk and rub it on the end of his cue stick.

"Raphael, if you make it the next round, you win," Jacob said while writing down the scores. He watched as Elliot got in position and picked the ball he wanted to hit. Then he struck the ball but Raphael had seen the mistake. Elliot hit the ball too hard which made it hit the table wall and move out of control. It didn't even go into a hole.

Elliot cursed and threw his hands in the air, clearly upset. Jason was next. There were four of them playing: him, Elliot, Jason, and Wilson. Jason wasn't so good at the game but at least he had good spirit to try it out. He hit the pool ball and it easily went into the hole.

Wilson went up next and he made the same mistake Elliot made. The ball that he hit too hard and it went out of control. When it stopped, Raphael saw his opportunity to finish the game. The ball was aligned with another one; the white pool ball in the perfect position to shoot.

Raphael placed his cue stick in position and angled the stick. Then he moved his hand back and then forward. He heard the pleasing sound of the pool balls striking each other and the two balls fell into the hole while the white pool ball rolled to a perfect spot.

"Raphael wins," Jacob announced and the other guys groaned in frustration. It wasn't Raphael's fault that he had been playing pool with his brothers and friends since he was a child. Just thinking about his past gave him a shiver. He didn't like his past at all and just thinking about it made him angry at himself.

He put the cue stick back on the rack and looked at the others. Playing pool was something they always did for fun but it wasn't fun when Raphael won constantly.

"So there's this club that just opened downtown, do you guys want to go?" Jason asked us. As Vampires, they tried to go out to have some fun at times but since there were only clubs that went on at night, it was the only thing they went to. None of them mind, it was where they could get some fun, laid, and blood.

The guys agreed and looked at Raphael. He cracked a smile and said, "Sure, why not,"

"We'll be leaving around midnight," Jason said and started to leave.

"You gonna take that girlfriend of yours with you?" Elliot asked Raphael.

"Well, of course I'm gonna bring my compañera," Raphael said. "Are you gonna ask Elizabeth?"

Elliot froze. "No."

"Why not? This could be your opportunity to understand her more." Raphael encouraged but Elliot just shook his head. "Fine," Raphael said and left.

When he got back to his room, it had been only an hour and a half since he had left. He opened the door to see Clary, sprawled on his couch, reading the book he had left on the table. Raphael shut the door and she looked up.

"Where were you?" she asked as she marked her place in the book and set it aside. Raphael walked over to sit next to her.

"I was just with the other vampires," he answered and put his arm around her. Clary cuddled against him till she got comfortable. Before Clary, his life was out of control. Drugs, fights, alcohol, sex, gun fights, you name it. It wasn't his choice to be sucked into a life like that but after he had been turned and became the leader, he was still the same. Until she came into his undead life; it was as if she was the silver lining in the cloud.

"Do you wanna go to a club tonight," he asked her and he could feel her shift her head to look up at him.

"Club?"

"Jason suggested we go at midnight to have some fun. I think we should go, just to get stuff out of our minds," Raphael softly said and she could see her eyes soften a bit.

"Okay," her voice was barely above a whisper. She had sacrificed a lot to be with him. She even left her mother at the Institute while she was with him. It may sound selfish but in a way, it meant something to Raphael. That she was dedicated to this relationship even if they come from different sides. He was a Downworlder and she was a Shadowhunter.

"But we have to go to Magnus's first," he said.

"Do you think he found anything?" she asked, her eyes big and innocent.

"We'll find out sooner or later."

"So, what do we do now?" her eyes looked down and he gave a smirk.

He grabbed her around the waist and pulled her body against his. She gave a littler gasp and looked at him. Raphael's hand cupped her cheek and said, "I think I know what we can do," and pressed his lips to hers.

Magnus POV

When Magnus came home, the first thing he did was shower and then sleep. He was in such a peaceful sleep till his cell phone started to ring. Of all the people, it was Raphael. Yes, Magnus was irritated that the leech called him at nine in the morning when he could still be sleeping but no, this Hybrid stuff was getting in the way and he had to go do some research.

After they hung up, Magnus plopped back on his bed to get some more hours of sleep in.

He woke up again around twelve. Magnus got ready for the day and started to investigate the pile of stuff from the hospital. He went through papers that had different chemical equations and problems. There were some books on Downworlders, Jeremy's copy of the Codex, journals, and other books. One book caught his eye though. Magnus picked it up and studied the title.

"Shit."

So this was just a bit of a filler chapter on what's going on right now. What did Magnus find? What was Jeremy up to? Whose ready to go clubbing?
