Big Changes
Chapter Seven
At The Uchiha Compound
Mid-Morning
"Daiki, please eat this." Sakura mumbled. Since Daiki is six months now, he should start eating baby food.
When she went to the market, she was really puzzled on what baby food to buy for Daiki. She decided to get a couple of each. Right now, she was feeding him carrot baby food and he didn't want to eat it. And it didn't look very appetizing to Sakura.
"It's yummy, Daiki!" Sakura said. "Carrots help your eyes see better. You don't want to go blind do you?"
Daiki opened his mouth and she smiled and fed him. All hope vanished when his face slowly fell. She held her breath and watched him. He stared at the wall past her and then looked to her. Sakura stared back at him and the food slowly fell out of his mouth and onto his bib.
She bit her lip to keep from laughing. If she laughed Sasuke would wake up from his nap. And a tired Sasuke is not a pretty one. She got a wet towel and wiped Daiki's mouth and carefully pried his tiny fingers off when he grabbed it. She offered him his teething ring which he accepted with a high-pitched squeal.
Sakura got up and returned the kitchen chair to its original place at the table and washed her hands. "Maybe Sasuke could try to feed him." She said quietly to herself. She took off his bib and threw it in the hamper.
When she went back to Daiki, she noticed him looking at the slightly open window in the living room. She also noticed that he set his teething ring down on his tray. She watched him and he just kept on staring at the window. She bit her lip and glanced upstairs hoping the quietness didn't alarm her husband.
She took a deep breath and began walking towards the window. 'I wonder if he saw someone lurking. I've seen babies at the hospital in a daze when I worked there but Daiki's was different.'
When the window was just three feet away from her, she took another deep breath. After scratching her palm, she glanced back at Daiki. He was inspecting his hand in front his face. Shaking her head, she opened the window more and—
'Wait a minute. I closed this window in the middle of the night. Did Sasuke open it?'
Sakura gulped, shut the window, and locked it.
In the Afternoon
"Did Daiki eat his baby food?"
Sakura turned around to see Sasuke watching Daiki trying to comprehend one of his toys. "No, I don't think he's really ready yet. It just kind of left his mouth." She chuckled when she replayed it in her mind.
"Should we wait another month then?" Sasuke asked her.
"I think we should, just to be safe. I have a feeling he won't want to eat it then though." Sakura answered while putting Daiki's clothes in their respectable drawers. She realized she'd have to buy more soon. His thighs seem to be growing faster than the other parts of his body.
"What did Lady Tsunade want?" Sakura asked. She heard footsteps and saw him come next to her.
"I have a mission." He answered quietly with his arms crossed. Sakura stiffened and tried to process what he said.
"You...you have a mission?" She inspected Daiki's pair of socks. "Can I ask what kind it is? Is someone else coming?"
"Tsunade needs escorts for some meeting in Sand. Neji's coming as well." He watched his wife closely.
Sakura suddenly got confused. Itachi's still missing. Did they find him and they don't want Sasuke to know? Tsunade does have a lot of meetings but someone could easily replace him. Something's up but, what is it?
"Sakura."
Sakura's head shot up. "S-sorry, I'm a little off today. When is your mission?"
"It's next week. I'm gonna work on my mission report from the other day." He leaned over and kissed her cheek then exited out of Daiki's room.
Sakura inwardly groaned. She may or may not have to deal with Sasuke if he ends up chasing after Itachi.
Maybe they did find him and they really want Sasuke to be far away so he doesn't make any rash decisions that could get him…killed. She really wanted to put the thought away but it almost made sense.
Sakura heard knocking on their front door and she picked up Daiki out of his crib and headed down the stairs. All of a sudden she got a nervous feeling in her stomach.
Sasuke was in the living room and opened the door only to find Naruto. He silently stepped aside and Naruto stepped in and smiled at Daiki, who stared at the yellow-haired ninja in wonder.
"Why are you here?" Sasuke asked his friend bluntly after settling next to his wife on one couch.
"First of all," Naruto started. "They found Itachi."
Sasuke tensed but kept his cool. "Where did they find him?"
Naruto scratched his head. "They uh, found him on the outskirts of Leaf. He uh, said there was an Akatsuki base nearby but Black Ops found no such thing."
Sasuke pinched the bridge of his nose. "So he didn't give any more information?" Sakura glanced at her husband with a look of concern.
"There's one more thing I forgot to add." Naruto sighed. "He committed suicide in his jail cell just a couple days ago."
"Suicide?" Sakura asked quietly and Naruto nodded in response.
"Where are the other members?" Sasuke asked.
"I'm not sure exactly where they are at but I know they're somewhere… private in the village. The mission was called off but I hear Neji and Kiba are two of many guards that watch them from a distance."
Sasuke nodded. "So what now?"
"Nothing, really," Naruto yawned. "There's really nothing to worry about since he's dead now. They're just gonna…" He did a wiping motion with his arm. "finish the job and you two can carry on with your lives."
"What do you mean when you say "finish the job" Naruto?" Sakura asked him out of curiosity.
"Tsunade ordered him cremated." He said simply and then got up. "I have something to get to. I'll see you guys later if I hear anything else." Naruto stretched and then walked himself to the door and closed it behind him.
"Are you okay with him being cremated?" Sakura asked. Sasuke nodded and stared in front of him.
"If he's dead, he won't harm you or Daiki so that takes a lot of worry off my shoulders. We just have to make sure the Anbu stay sharp."
Sakura nodded and Daiki slapped his father's arm and laughed. His mother giggled and stood up. "I have to get him a bottle."
Sasuke nodded. "I still have to work on my report."
To Be Continued
Author's Note: Oh god I'm sorry that this took long. I had some extra time and I'm working on another fic so I thought I would work on this one as well! I think this fic is just getting started and I really wanted to make this 2,000 words but it seemed like a longshot and I really wanted to post this before the year ended.
So yeah, I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! As I said, I'm working on another fic and it's coming out quite well but I probably won't post it until late 2015. I'm gonna keep it a secret because I still have to work on a summary and probably change the title. (:
But I have a lot of stuff going on in my personal life as well. The living situation in my house is very stressful so it's hard for me to concentrate on my fanfiction and my homework. But I'm trying my best and hopefully next year will be a better, productive year for me and anyone else who hopes the same! :D
Happy new year, everybody!
