Hello everyone, it's been awhile. I even got a review saying it was 2014 and I had not updated yet. I'm fixing this currently :) Oh well, I'm just too lazy for my own good. Let me just say now that I intend to update all of my other stories within the next few weeks.
Disclaimer: I don't own either Ranger's Apprentice or the Avengers.
Chapter Seven… Teacher Tony and the Avengers (+ 2) In Action
After the game of hide and seek, the Avengers retired with the sole exception of Tony, who was going to teach the Rangers about modern technology. After he announced his intentions to the two, Will seemed particularly excited, while Halt had the same unreadable expression on his face as always.
To start out, they journeyed to one of the tower's many living rooms. In this particular one, couches were splayed out to both sides, offering a comfortable resting space. Tony gestured for them to sit down and directed their attention to the television.
Will and Halt observed the flat, rectangular object from a short distance away. Unexpectedly, it suddenly flickered to life, and various images floated across the screen, telling varied stories. The person on the screen was talking about the happenings of the city it seemed.
Tony, doing his best to impersonate a TV narrator, explained in monotone, "This is a television. Tele- meaning to or at a distance, + vision, hence the name. You can watch, for lack of a technical term, stuff that other people put up on what are called channels."
Tony then dug into his pocket for something and came up with another object, this one being small and rectangular. It was settled in a black case. He touched it, and it came alive. He said, "This is a telephone, or phone for short. You can talk to other people by dialing their number on it. It's really useful."
Tony then stalked into the kitchen, the two Rangers on his heels. Behind him, the TV continued on with its broadcast, having been forgotten.
As the three made more coffee (for it was the one thing they all loved), Tony took the chance to explain the ins and outs of the kitchen to the two. The refrigerator, toaster, stove, coffee pot, microwave, blender, and other miscellaneous appliances that only Tony would own (because Pepper bought them in the hopes they would be used) were all explained adequately enough for the two to grasp their use.
After the coffee was done, the three took a few minutes to appreciate the blessing in their lives that was good coffee. Unfortunately, their peace was soon interrupted… along with the whole city's.
The newscast in the other room was the first sign of something terribly wrong happening. The voice of the news lady floated over to them, "The city of New York is in a panic. Robots are flying everywhere, attacking any citizens they encounter. *A gush of wind sounds over the speakers*. I advise everyone to remain inside, as it is very dangerous outside. This is a situation for the Avengers."
Tony, previously carefree, set down his coffee mug and addressed JARVIS, "JARVIS, call the Avengers and tell them the situation."
JARVIS replied, "Already did, Sir. I suggest that you get going."
Tony headed towards the balcony, and then stopped short, as something occurred to him. He hasn't given the Rangers a way to communicate with them during battle yet. He made a slight detour to one of the drawers in the living room and pulled it open. He removed two headsets and handed them over to Will and Halt, gesturing for them to put them on. He then asked for JARVIS to explain, and headed out to the balcony.
When Tony reached the balcony, robot arms stretched from the ground to incase him in a suit of armor. Once they were finished, Tony flew off. The sight would have amazed Will and Halt if they had still been around to see it.
Instead, they were hurriedly making progress to the ground floor of Stark Tower, having received instructions from JARVIS about the headsets and what to do. Within a few minutes, the two were dashing towards Central Park, the apparent center of the robot activity. While on their way over, the two fired at the stray robots near them, managing to hit the critical points as directed by JARVIS. It seemed that there was also a video function installed in the headsets.
When the Rangers arrived, it was a scene of chaos. Robots flew noisily overhead, falling down quickly, but somehow managing to increase in number despite their numerous losses. It was as if the robots were the different heads of a hydra, cut one off and two more spawn.
Around the park, all of the Avengers could be seen fighting crime.
Captain America was busily knocking robots down, left and right, by using his shield as a weapon. He also added in some kicks and punches for a good variety. He was fighting the most robots out of all of them.
Thor was calling down lightning and living up to his name as the Thunderer, smiting his opponents with an iron fist and magical hammer.
Clint and Natasha were back to back, covering for each other. They were both using handheld weapons, noticeably ones that could deal electric shocks. They were trying to fry the robots' circuits. Occasionally, Clint would take a moment when he had the time to quickly shoot one of the robots attacking the other Avengers.
Bruce, or Hulk rather, and Tony were also working together. For some reason, the robots were staying away from Hulk and would fly away when he got near them. They seemed… scared of him. Tony used this to his advantage and directed Hulk to chase the majority of the robots. This made the robots easy pickings for Tony, as he was able to aim for the critical spots and take them down in one shot.
After having observed the basic situation, Will and Halt joined in the fray, quickly finding spots with good vantage points to shoot from. They helped support the Avengers and also shot down more stray robots chasing the few remaining civilians still out.
It wasn't long before Steve spoke into his headset, "We need to find the leader for these robots, or the control system. We can't safely take down all these robots."
Everyone else agreed, and quickly said their assent to the Captain's plan. Tony asked JARVIS to help him locate the boss, and was told in reply that JARVIS was already working on it.
Half an hour later, and the group of heroes was starting to wear down. Everyone was tired. On the plus side though, the robots didn't seem to be increasing in numbers anymore. Instead, the Avengers and Rangers were taking care of them as quickly as they arrived.
Finally, JARVIS found the coordinates of the boss. It seemed as though the boss was hiding in one of the buildings near Central Park and was controlling things from there. The Avengers quickly surged as one towards the building and snuck in, Rangers in tow.
Inside the building, there was a lot of equipment, such as monitors and computers. They showed a running feed of Central Park. Off to one side, a little man was trying to leave the building in secrecy. Once they made their presence known, the man started running, yelling, "You'll never catch me, coppers!"
Briefly, Tony Stark wondered why the villain had to say something so stereotypical. Then again, he mentally shrugged, villains will be villains.
Despite the man's attempt to escape, he was quickly captured, having been pinned to the wall, by not one, but three arrows and a knife. After all, Clint, Natasha, Will, and Halt all have wonderful aim.
Minutes later, SHIELD personal arrived to handcuff the villain and bring him into custody, to be questioned and locked up.
Their job completed, the group of heroes headed back to Stark Tower. As they headed past Central Park, they noticed that all the robots had been deactivated. Tony did mess with the computers in the villain's hideout after all, and managed to disable them.
It was dinner time when they got back, and they all ate something called shawarma, courtesy of Pepper ordering it for them after order had returned once more to the city. All in all, it was a very eventful day.
However, tired and exhausted as they were, Will and Halt still had to visit Tug and Abelard, and update them on the situation.
