Hermione and Yugi didn't get any more sleep that night and were one of the first people in the great hall at breakfast. With a half hour left before class they retreated to the Library. Seto joined them a few minutes later. "So . . . What do you think the dog was guarding?" Hermione asked. Causing Yugi to almost drop the puzzle piece he was holding in surprise.
"Something valuable, Hogwarts is the safest place in Brittan. If something is hidden here it must be something of incredible value." Seto said, he had noticed the trap door while the Dog wasn't attacking them. In fact besides that middle head it seemed incredibly tame compared to the Cerberus in Greek mythology.
"Valuable or not it's none of our business." Yugi frowned. "If a three headed dog is guarding it then it's probably more trouble than it's worth." He was curious sure but that Dog was all the warning they needed to stay away.
"Your right Yugi, but what would be so valuable that it requires that kind of security to be placed in a school?" Hermione frowned putting down her book.
"It must be something of great power as well as value." Seto said thoughtfully. "Maybe it's connected to the Robbery that took place at Gringotts this summer." Seto had heard about that from Theodor Nott.
Hermione hummed in thought. "I'll be right back!" She jumped up and vanished behind a shelf leaving Yugi and Seto to lapse into an awkward silence. They had not spoken to each other much without Hermione being present.
"So . . . Do you like games?" Yugi asked trying to dispel the awkward silence.
Seto nodded catching on to what Yugi was trying to do. "Yes particularly Duel Monsters."
Hermione returned before Yugi could say anything more with a stack of books half as tall as Yugi, and almost twice as thick as the Puzzle box in front of him. Both boys stared at the pile of books. "What?" Hermione blinked. "It's just a bit of light reading."
"You call this light reading?" Yugi blinked. "Hermione this will take you weeks to read!" Yugi groaned. "How are you going to lug all of that back to the common room anyway? Classes start in ten minutes."
"They do? Oh my they do." Hermione gasped noticing the time. "I hadn't even noticed, we had better get going or we'll be late to History of Magic!" She grabbed Yugi's arm and dragged him from the library.
Later that day in during their last lesson a joint Slytherin-Gryffindor charms lesson they were learning the Levitation spell.
Seto watched ready to duck and cover as Weasley mispronounced the spell multiple times while jabbing and swinging his wand in a dangerous fashion. Seto was highly relieved when Hermione snatched the faintly glowing wand from Weasley.
"Stop right now." Hermione frowned. "You're going to take someone's eye out, or worse! Besides, you're saying it all wrong." She added.
Weasley scowled and snatched his wand back. "Then why don't you try it then?" He clearly expected her to fail.
Hermione smirked at him. "Of course I will, Wingardium Leviosa." Hermione coupled the correct pronunciation with the swish and flick maneuver professor Flitwick had taught them at the beginning of the lesson. The white feather in front of her gently floated up to the ceiling.
Yugi congratulated her happily as class ended.
"Bloody hell, she's unbearable! It's a wonder she has any friends at all! 'You're saying it all wrong'" Weasley mocked angrily to Potter who frowned in disapproval. They didn't notice that as this was being said they passed Hermione and Yugi.
"Herm-"Yugi didn't get to finish as Hermione was already halfway down the hall. He turned around briefly to glare at Weasley before taking off after Hermione.
Seto growled but was distracted by his owl Athena a Northern Hawk-owl flying in through a window with a letter attached to her leg. He untied the letter from her leg and read through it smirking. "Perfect, everything's going according to plan. By The end of Christmas break Kaiba corp. will be mine."
Note!
Okay I get that this is a really weak chapter but hey Halloween is a really big time for plot advancement. And There's a lot I have planned this year! Also thanks to everyone who voted on my poll! But the majority of you noted on Duelist Kingdom. Which I might have to move to after Second year instead of this summer. Just to keep things cannon.
