Author's Note: As stated in a previous author's note; all the titles of these chapters are those from songs. This one I think you should listen to with this particular chapter. go on YouTube and look up "My Way" by Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley. I'm gonna be using most of the lyrics from that song for this and to convey the feelings I want to be felt in this chapter so either version of the song will do.

Chapter 7: I Did it, My Way.

452 A.H.

And now the end is near. Link thought as each breath he took shot sharp pains through his entire body. This is where I face my final curtain... He felt at peace despite knowing what was going to happen soon. It was now just a matter of time. He didn't feel scared at this situation, not even a little. Was this how you felt Romani? How about you Mom and Dad? He asked in his thoughts as he shut his eyes, wondering if this would be the last time he shut them, but he opened them again. Nope, not yet. He refused to die, he had one last thing to do before it all ended; it was all a matter of holding out and waiting.
As if on cue; The door to his room creaked open as Marin and Rinku entered, she carrying a small healthy baby. Link saw as the young family came into the room and he smiled.

"Look Dad;" Marin said with teary eyes as she brought the baby close to him. "he's finally here. You're Grandson; Link." she said, tears rolling down her eyes. These were the tears of both happiness and of sorrow. She was happy her son was finally born and just in time for her father to see him, but she was saddened to see her father ready to... die.

"My Gods... he's handsome Marin. Just like his Grandpa!" the elder Link joked with a laugh that was quickly replaced with harsh coughs. He struggled to sit up some, his son in law helping him a bit; then with slightly less difficulty Link outstretched his aged arms asking to hold his newborn grandson. Marin gingerly handed the baby to her father. Link pulled the young baby close to his chest and looked down to him and smiled. He took one finger and tickled the baby's stomach as the baby then grabbed at his finger with his tiny left hand. "Oh looks like you're pretty strong. That's good." he said, speaking to the child as it then moved its little arms almost trying to fight Link's withered hand and cried. "And quite the fighter too." Link commented, cradling his grandchild in his arms, enjoying this moment, but soon the smile on his aged face turned to a serious one as he then opened his left hand over the child and then a heavenly glow began to emanate from his hand; it was the sacred triangle of the Triforce of Courage. "I think you are going to need this my grandson. Perhaps you will have a better use for it than I ever did." as the Triforce symbol began to glow even brighter to suddenly dim to nothingness. And in return the piece of the Triforce began to form and glow on the baby's left hand, eventually dimming to a dark triangle mark.

"Dad, what did you do?" Marin asked as she was shocked to the scene she just witnessed as Link then handed back the child to her. She took her son but kept her gaze on her father.

"Marin, I'll say it clear and I'll state my case of which I'm certain." he groaned as he slumped back down in his bed into a more comfortable position. He looked towards his daughter's face, then to his grandson then to Rinku, then finally to the ceiling.
"I've lived a life that's full. I've traveled each and every pathway. And more, much more than this; I've done it my way... Regrets... I've had a few. But then again; I've been forgiven. I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption. I planned each charted course, each careful step... along the byway. And more, much more than this... I did it my way. Yes, there were times; I'm sure you know; when I bit off more than I could chew. But through it all; when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out. I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way. I've loved, I've laughed and cried. I've had my fill, my share of losing. And now as tears subside... I find it all so amusing. To think; I did all that. For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught. To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels. The record shows I took the blows and did it my way... Yes... it was my way." Link said as tears rolled down his eyes in a constant stream as he spoke.

"Dad..." Marin mumbled as she stared at her father, somewhat confused by the things he had said. He smiled at her and took her hand.

"Marin... Thank you. You, you're mother and brother have been the light of my life. I love you all. But... there is something I need to ask of you. Consider it my last will and testament." he said as he pulled out a small envelope from his pocket and handed it to her. She took it but kept her eyes on her father's smiling and content face. "Later; please open it and follow the instructions inside to the letter. It is my last request. Can you do it for me?" Marin nodded, tears once more running down her already reddened face. Link smiled. "Good, thank you." he said finally as he looked away from her and to the foot of the bed where he saw 4 figures hovering over them. 3 of them were women and another a man. As the image of Marin, Rinku and his grandchild blurred, the view of the 4 figures came into focus. He instantly recognized two of them; Romani and Cremia - looking as they did so many years ago when he was only a child and first met them. Romani?! Cremia? You've... come to greet me? But before the two sisters could answer Link saw standing beside them was a couple - middle aged. He didn't recognize them but he knew who they were. Mother? Father? All 4 nodded their heads. It was time as he then became over swept with the feelings of exhaustion and tiredness as well as peace and calm. He felt his eyelids shutting and he did not fight it. He welcomed his fate with open arms.
