Chapter Seven
The pie was delicious. More than delicious. Cas didn't know how to even describe it. It was like heaven, or how he imagined heaven might be. For all he knew, it could all be a lie and heaven could just be this place in the clouds full of chaos. I mean, if you have billions of people up in just one place, you're bound to have conflict at one point or another.
Cas and Dean ended up leaving the diner shortly after they finished their slices of pie. Midway through his piece, Castiel brought it up to Dean that he'd never had pie before. Dean just about lost it. They were still discussing it as they left.
"How could you not have had it? I mean it's like the Holy Grail of…of life! And it's better because you can eat it, and it's delicious, and – ugh! So many different flavours," Dean opened up the car door for Castiel, whom was holding back his laughter. "But seriously, you've been missing out on one of life's greatest things." The green-eyed man walked around to his side of the Impala and sat down in his seat, starting up the engine and pulling out of his parking space.
"Well, thank you, Dean, for sharing this glorious experience with me." Castiel leaned back in his seat and turned his gaze to stare upon Dean. He was cute when he didn't know someone was looking at him.
Hell, Cas thought, Dean is always cute. The thought brought heat to Castiel's cheeks, and he forced himself to look at his lap. Dean saw him out of the corner of his eye and smiled.
"You alright there, Cas?" Dean looked over at the blue-eyed beauty before turning into campus.
"Oh? Uh, yeah." Cas fiddled with his shirt and stared at his shoes. His face felt hot. Very hot. "I'm fine. Thank you, Dean."
"Good…" Dean looked around and spotted the parking lot for Castiel's dormitory. "Good."
The two laughed and made jokes, mostly on Dean's side of the conversation, as they walked up to Cas and Sam's shared room. They stopped at the door, trying to keep quiet in case someone was working or maybe even sleeping.
Castiel looked up, catching Dean's fading grin and wide, bright emerald eyes. They held each other's gazes, the world falling away as the two inched closer and closer. Cas was too scared to blink, afraid that if even if he wasn't looking for a fraction of a second, he'd miss something… maybe even everything.
I don't wanna miss a thing, the song began to play on repeat in Cas's head. He smiled shyly. It fit. He really truly did not want to miss a thing when it came to Dean Winchester.
Christ, Cas, do you even know how crazy that sounds? You've known him what, a day, and you're already falling head over heels. This is how murders happen, dumbass! But he didn't care. He didn't care, he didn't care.
Oh, to hell with it. Think about yourself for once. Live in the moment! The voice persisted in the blue-eyes man's mind. However, the moment was scary and quite nerve-wracking.
Dean pulled in closer, his eye lids falling closed ever so slowly, and Castiel's heart beat faster. His mind racing in several different directions, scared of the unknown.
What if it's all some joke?
What if I'm a terrible kisser?
Oh, God! We just met.
Oh! Fuck it. Cas shut his eyes and lifted his mouth up to reach Dean's. His lips were soft and pleasant. Smooth and delicate. The kiss was heavenly to say the least. Electrifying. Awakening. And short.
Way too short.
Dean pulled back, his cheeks starting to grow red, his eyes darting to the floor. This made Castiel smile and do the same.
"I… uh… sorry." Dean rubbed the back of his neck, averting Castiel's captivating orbs.
"Please, Dean, do not be sorry." He gave a reassuring smile when he finally caught sight of those deep green eyes.
Dean stared into Castiel's eyes, his smile coming back to him. "Then I'm not sorry." He laughed a little to himself as Cas reached over to grab the door handle.
"Wanna… Wanna come in?"
"Yeah, that'd be nice." Dean stood straight, cautious of Sam possibly appearing like a wild Pokémon.
The shorter man nodded and opened the door to find the dorm empty. "Huh… I wonder where Sam is."
"Don't ask me." Dean walked through the doorway, looking around the somewhat tidy room. "He's always been one to just go off as he pleases."
Castiel nodded, and he shut the door, leaving Joshua Martin and Raphael with expressions of horror. They stood there for a while, their eyes wide in disbelief and disgust. And then in unison, the two sped down the hall to tell their group about this sickening event.
The green-eyed man looked over at Castiel and couldn't help but smile. This caused Cas to look down at the carpeted floor in a bashful manner. This made Dean smile even more.
"So, uh, Cas… What's your plan for today?"
"Nothing really. Maybe work on some of my paper. Might even read for a little bit."
"Oh, yeah. The Hobbit, right?" Dean sat down on the computer chair at Sam's desk. "How is it so far?"
Cas took the liberty to sit on his bed and stretched slightly, hearing his back pop slightly. "I think it's fantastic. I really need to finish it, but at the same time, I just don't want it to end."
Dean let out a little laugh and nodded. "Yeah, I can understand." He spun around in the computer chair, his feet dragging behind him.
After that, the room fell silent. But it wasn't an awkward silence, no. It was nice and comfortable. A rare experience in Cas's understanding. Just sharing the silence with someone important, someone like Dean (or what he hoped Dean would become even more so one day) just made it ten times better.
