"Where are you gonna be at?" Larry asked Jewel as soon as they entered the building.
"I'm gonna go around the animals," she explained," then to the huns, then to the Egyptian exhibit."
"Ah," the man laughed," Going to visit your gracious pharaoh?"
Jewel smirked and rolled her planned to stay there most the night. All she wanted was to hear his stories. After all, she waited so long for them.
Quickly, the girl closed the gates of the animals and the huns. She didn't know who was worse to calm down. At least Dexter didn't try any funny business- even the monkey knew the severity of the situation.
Finally, she went to the Egyptian exhibit. She saw only the pharaoh cross-legged on the floor when she arrived. He patted the ground next to him, asking the guard to be by his side.
"I should be shutting the gate you know," she laughed as she sat next to him.
"When Larry comes by," Ahk smiled," we'll tell him I lost a gem. You were helping me look for it, and nothing more."
The guard agreed to the Egyptian's plan. He knew when to cover for her, just in case. She leaned closer and prepared for her mind to be blown.
"So tell me about your backstory," she said, smiling," I've been waiting all day."
"Here's goes nothing," he joked," I was born somewhere around BC Egypt. I have an older brother named Kahmunrah. Six years ago, he tried to take power of the tablet, but your father and the others stopped him."
Ahkmenrah told of his friends at childhood and the life of a young pharaoh. He explained how he would play games with servants and other children. How their laughter rang for miles in the Egyptian desert. As he continued on, Jewel got more and more fascinated with every growing second. Her dream had finally come true.
Then came to the hard part-his death.
Ahk became more hesitant about this part. Even when Jewel reassured him that he didn't have to, he wanted to. No- he needed to talk about it. After centuries of silence, he had to tell someone that wanted to listen. And here she was.
"I was nineteen," he said," I was going to be proclaimed as king of the Nile the next morning. My brother had taken me to look over our town. It was peaceful that night, even though tomorrow was the big day. I knew my brother was jealous...I didn't mean for that to happen. I always wanted to help him, but even then he rejected it."
"He'd told me how proud of me he was," Ahkmenrah whispered, tears rolling down his face,"he held me. I-I thought he was genuinely happy. I shouldn't have been so foolish. He stabbed me and closed my mouth. I-I couldn't yell for anyone. Then my family buried me and..."
He couldn't finish before nearly bursting into tears. Ahk took his crown off and stared, putting it aside before putting his face in his hands. He had to admit to himself that he was embarrassed for getting so emotional- but wouldn't anybody do the same? Talking about the day they passed.
Jewel felt terrible for the young pharaoh. His brother killed him the day before he became ruler. And he was so young...it was more shocking than anything.
"I'm so sorry Ahkmenrah," she said," You didn't deserve any of that. You deserved a hell of a lot better. Let me get you-"
"Please stay," he said through tears, holding his hand out to her," I'd rather not be alone. Even if my parents are in their tombs."
She hadn't wanted to hurt his feelings by leaving, yet he asked her to stay. Maybe the pharaoh needed a little friendly love. Jewel took his hand and sat next to him. He cried as she held his hands. She did her best to calm him down, with positive words and soft singing. It was what helped her when she was upset. Maybe it would work for the pharaoh. Finally, the tears dried up and Ahkmenrah looked into her eyes.
"Thank you so much for staying ,Jewel of Brooklyn," Ahkmenrah said, sniffing," I haven't cried like that since- I can't remember. It was centuries ago. it means a lot for you to make me feel bet-"
Jewel couldn't take it anyone. She quickly wrapped her arms around him, his head resting on her shoulder. It made him uncomfortable for a second. Until he sunk into the hug.
"I am so here for you Ahkmenrah," she mumbled," You are incredible and you've done a lot for people. Trust me. If anything should happen to you I will do anything to make it better. Just for you, my promise."
Ahkmenrah clung tightly to her and stayed like that for a while. That promise got his mind running. Promises were often made, then smashed days later. Somehow, he felt that this was the one. It was the first promise that would make all those broken ones heal. He prayed to his gods for it to be so. Then they stood up, hand-in-hand, and eyes on each other. She'd told him she'd see him the night later, letting go and locking the cage. She walked off with a high head, and a sad smile on her face. Everything was going well...but not for long.
