"So why did the stone lead us to this cave?" Asked Jake as the pair traversed into a long winding tunnel that seemed to go on forever. A few miles back, breathing had started to get difficult and now air was as precious as the small gem that Finn was following.
"I dunno man, maybe it's because-" But the hero paused his trail of thought as he reached an opening in the cave. Before his eyes was a medium sized hollowing, about the size of Lady's house. In the centre of the cave was a pedestal and resting on the pedestal was a beautiful see-through and sparkling diamond. At a closer look, the diamond was attached to golden chain making it an amulet.
Just before Finn could take a step toward the memorising gem, Jake stopped him. "Dude!" He said exasperated. "Have you not learnt anything! There could be traps and junk. Remember the porcelain lamb you touched, I don't want that happening again."
"Dude, it's fine. I've already checked, no traps and no monsters." Despite his assurance, Finn still took a quick glance before striding out into the cavern toward the diamond. Jake reluctantly followed, ever cautious of traps.
The moment Finn got his hands on the memorising crystal, he knew it was cursed. The small golden chain leaped at his throat, wrapping itself around and fastening the latch. There it sat comfortably as Finn struggled to pull it off. "Jake! It's stuck! I can't-" but when Finn realised it wasn't trying to choke him, he calmed down slightly.
After Jake had examined the amulet, he suggested they try taking it over his head, but the chain was too small. The latch itself had disappeared and the small gold chain was much stronger than it looked. Like his grass sword, it wasn't going anywhere.
Jake tried to cheer Finn up by suggesting the good side. "Maybe it's like a power boost or something."
"Yeah, I guess your right." And Finn submitted and stop struggling against the chain, half-hoping that it would do some kind of transformation like his grass sword did, but it just remained inactive and innocent dangling from his neck. So instead, he tucked it under his shirt, in case any vagabonds saw it and had more of an incentive to attack them.
Finn muttered to himself "Wonder what it does..."
"Julie, we need to go, now!" A panicked voice yelled.
"Jake? You hear that?" Finn asked, looking around for the source.
"Hear what?" His companion replied, as he scoped the cave for an exit.
"The voice..." Finn trailed off.
The sound of hurried footsteps could be heard. "What about the crystal?" A female voice asked.
"Leave it. The shadow demon is nearly here!" Shouted back the same male voice.
It sounded so close, yet no one was near Finn. It was like he could feel their presence in this very cave.
"Jake, stop doing that!" Finn shouted at his friend angrily. The hero boy suspected that Jake was pulling another one of his classic pranks. How he organised it in a cave in the middle of nowhere was beyond him.
"Dude, I didn't do anything, now quit being crazy cause I found the secret exit." Jake pointed to a tunnel, where a small slither of light was visible at the end.
Finn, still wary from the voices, began to head over to the exit, when he noticed a large and abnormally dark shadow in the corner of the cave. Picking up the pace, he began to power walk toward his brother, keeping the shadow in his peripheral vision.
Suddenly, the shadow grew arms in the third dimension, and a terrifying beast began to pull itself out from the shadow. With piercing red eyes and claws the size of Finn's forearm, it was a horrible sight to behold. The demon then lumbered toward them, flailing it's large claws and attempting to slash the pair.
Finn was frozen in fear. It was the shadow demon that the voices were talking about. Finn was actually so lost in thought, he didn't think the move as the demon towered over him and raised a dark claw, poised to slice his boy bod. When Finn snapped out of it, he saw the predicament he was in and braced himself for the pain.
Suddenly, Jake's dexterous limbs wrapped around Finn and pulled him out of harm's way. "Dude! Let's go!" As they sprinted through the softly lit tunnel, they could hear the whoosh of the demon behind them as it made pursuit. The cave continued on and on and the human began to tire. As he slowed his pace the demon caught up. The bight light that was streaming into the tunnel was just round the corner, he was so close.
Just before he turned the corner, he saw the claws of the demon swipe toward him. Collapsing to the floor, he made a small roll forward as a last attempt to get past the corner and into the direct light. His movement was not enough and the demon caught him by the leg, pulling him back. As Finn struggled, he saw the demon raise his claw one last time to finish the job. Suddenly the light intensified and the demon retreated.
When Finn looked down, he realised that the demon had slashed his shirt open earlier and the sparkling diamond that was hidden underneath was no longer covered, revealing the bright light that had scared the demon off.
Finn gave a small sigh of relief and got to his feet. He had reached the end of the tunnel and could finally take deep breathes. He could smell the fresh air that he craved. As a huge burst of warmth and light from the dearly missed sun hit Finn, he felt delirious and soon the babbling continued as he collapsed to the sand. As his eyes came down like shutters, he could hear the worried shouting of his brother, but soon it was drowned out by the voices.
"Daddy, is it true Antarctica is a desert?" A little gril's voice asked
"That's right!" Replied the deep voice of the father.
"How are deserts made?" Questioned the little girl.
"Over millions of years, as sand is gently blown around. It eventually builds up." The dad explained.
"Will our home ever be a desert, daddy?" The girl inquired
"No, sweetie, a place would have to be abandoned for years and years for a desert to form. Now go to sleep."
Finn woke with a start as Jake poured a canteen of water over his face. "Sorry bro, you were getting pretty dehydrated."
Finn saw that they were no longer in the hot sands, but a concrete and metallic room, covered in moss and rust. The building creaked and groaned ever so after as the winds collided against the side of it. "Where are we?" Finn groaned, clutching his throbbing head.
"I took us to a nearby skyscrappy thing, Forgot what Bubbs called it. Something pre-war." Jake said, as he carefully watched the boy's movement to make sure nothing was wrong. "You good?"
"Yeah, I'm ok." Finn replied, giving his bro a small smile.
Finn stretched out his limbs, making sure that they popped, before he sat up. "I just keep hearing voices in my head..."
Jake gave him an unbelieving look. "That's not OK! Ok is like, yeah everything's normal! Hearing voices, that's not OK! OKAY?"
"Okay, chill bro. It's cool."
"Are you hearing the voices now?" Jake asked with an eyebrow raised.
"No I do-" Finn tried to reply
"Am I the only one in this room?"
"Ye-" Attempted Finn before he was cut off again
"I would like to speak to your new friend?"
"JAKE! I'm not crazy!" Finn yelled in response.
"Okay, okay fine your not crazy." Jake then rubbed his chin in contemplation. Clicking his finger, he announced proudly. "I got it! It's your necklace thingy, dude. Soon as you picked it up, you said you started hearing things." Finn gave out a small 'huh' and took the necklace out from under his shirt. The blindingly bright light had now dimmed down to a small glow, at a similar brightness to the eclipse stone.
The eclipse stone! Finn felt a small rush of panic as he felt all his pockets for the small stone, worried that it had slipped out when he had feinted. Finally, he felt the small round lump in his pocket that signified the small rock was there, and gave a small sigh of relief. After getting to his feet, then clutching his head as the blood rushed to it for standing up to quickly, he roamed around the room examining the contents. Most of the items were pre-war and had rusted or disintegrated beyond recognition.
Something caught the boy's eyes though. It was a metallic box with an antenna sticking out the top. The TV itself had tonnes of thick layers of dust on it, and any wood components had decayed years ago. Finn slowly walked over to it and placed his hand on the top of the device. Instantly he felt a small jolt of energy rush through his limb.
"-in the unlikely event of a nuclear bomb being dropped, be sure to get your underground bunker. If you have not assembled your own underground bunker, please relocate yourself to the nearest public bunker. This notice was brought to you by the British War Time PSA association."
"Negotiations and peace talks have not been successful with the aggressors and the use of nuclear warheads had been authorised."
"The death toll of the war has been reaching a horrific 1.2 billion and the amount of atomic bombs being dropped per week is still increasing."
All that could be heard was the flat line beep of the emergency channel, then the tap,tap tap of the following Morse code message. Then silence.
Finn let out a small gasp as he wrenched his hand away from the television. These voices in his head...were they from the past? The very thought disturbed the hero and the fact that he was attached to the object infuriated him. He tried tugging and gnawing against the golden chain but it wouldn't even scratch.
"Dude, we got a big problem!" Snapping out of this thoughts, Finn turned to see what his brother was pointing at.
A large black circle in the ground had slipped under the door, it's very presence drawing the warmth and light out of the candles they had set up. The horrific black beast began to pull itself out from it's shadowy veil, letting out a blood-chilling roar that sent a shiver down Finn's spine.
Finn tried to sum up his options, but the demon was in the way of the only door and his mind had gone numb. Finn had heard that regular melee combat wouldn't work against a shadow demon so fighting it was out of the question. The gem on his chest that he had scared the demon off was now dim.
As for as he could see, the butts were toast.
"Vortya, Keman Doth, NAH KASS" Roared an unknown voice. A glowing fist then materialised through the demon's chest cavity. The demon shrieked in pain and surprise, as he began to shrink back into his glob in the floor. Afterwards, the glob began to fade and was absorbed into the glove of the hooded stranger.
The cloaked figure then looked at the pair and saw their startled expressions. Raising a hand to his hood, he slowly lowered it.
"Hey! I'm Sam the Artefact Hunter."
A/N
I've only realized now, that I said a lot of stuff in the other chapters which I have to reprimand. Sooooooooo, If it gets confusing I will answer questions at the end of the first story arc.
Anywho, The next chapter is already half done so expect to see that soon.
As for the new OC
1) He is not a fanfic version of me. First off different names, also the guy will be completely different from me. Sometimes you see stories where the OC is them. This is not one of those stories.
2) He will not be a ultra major character. I feel that I wouldn't be able to sustain an OC as a major character. He will play a big role, but for how long?
Also, go back to my chapter 4/5 either one. I successfully predicted the entire Red Throne storyline. Y'all saw it. I kinda wish I was wrong now because the turn out was pretty crap. Oh well, the new episode looks awesome and sees the return of everyone's favourite villian, the Lich.
Anyway, it is time to reply to reviews! I have been neglecting this for a while, mainly because it has just been Ooobserver reviewing (That was not meant to sound like it's a bad thing, Ooobserver is a saint for always reviewing, helps with morale.) and itis kinda hard replying to the same one person, I might aswell jsut PM. Anyway answering time.
Gold Testament: There will be an FP POV shortly but in relation to the candle, I never specified who was in the candle. (Her Dad can do it too.)
Pricetopay: Big fan of your story The price of a sword. I'm glad that you enjoyed the current state of my story.
Oobserver: I tried to review everything I read but I just forget, or couldn't be arsed. This makes me really respect the effort you go through, cause I see you reviewing every story big or small. So yeah, thanks for the morale boost. P.s I love your new story Ember Alias, the undercover thing is a cool concept.
Well there we go, also I'm getting a friend into Adv Time and I have access to every episode. (Godbless watch cartoons online) So do you guys recommend any episodes that I should suggest to him. Preferably ones without ties to their own sagas. (I.e We fixed a truck, cause it's a funny standalone one to break the ice) Leave your favourite filler episode in a review.=)
If you are on computer though, the review button is like \/ there. Srsly. Click it. DO IT!
