Honolulu Love

Guys I am so sorry about not writing for ages. There has been an unbelievable amount of tests and assignments and I was going to write a few more chapters last week but unfortunately I broke my ankle. Playing football is a hazard guys, just FYI.

So without further ado, I present Chapter 7 of Honolulu Love!

I do not own any characters from "The Vampire Diaries" and/or "50 First Dates".

Honolulu Love

Chapter 7 – He Needs You!

Elena opened her eyes and watched as Stefan walked over to the now asleep and exhausted Damon. Stefan looked at her for confirmation that he was asleep and Elena nodded, taking a deep breath; Stefan quickly scooped his arms underneath Damon. Both Elena and he froze as they saw Damon's eyelids tremble slightly but that was short-lived as Damon relaxed once more. Stefan sighed and gently started to lift his older brother up from the cold, damp cement floor. All of a sudden, Damon started thrashing and moving around and Stefan found it almost impossible to not drop him.

Soon Damon started sweating and flying his hands everywhere in an attempt to get down to the ground, his conscience telling him that wherever he was wasn't as safe as where he was before.

"Elena! Elena!" Damon started mumbling urgently in desperateness.

Elena stood up lightning fast and took Damon's warm feverish hand in her own while whispering small comforting nonsense into his ear. Almost instantly, Damon calmed down and lay limp in his brothers arms, his other hand gripping onto Stefan's grey shirt weakly and his head buried in Stefan's jacket. Stefan and Elena looked at each other in disbelief that such a small and simple touch from Elena could calm down Damon's confused and unconscious state. Looking back down at Damon, she softly stoked his face and smiled as he leant into her touch ever so lightly.

The pair started walking up the stairs and through the café, Elena not letting go of Damon's hand once. People stared and whispered about what they were seeing, a man carried by his younger brother and clenching onto some new girls hand but so what? They could think what they wanted; it was a free country after all.

Stefan looked up at Ric and nodded his thanks before walking out of the café and away from all the judgemental people. They walked over to his car and gently laid Damon down on the back seat, Stefan motioning for Elena to get in as well. When they were all in the red sports car, Damon's head resting in Elena's lap, they started up the engine and started their journey to the Salvatore's home.

(Damon and Stefan's house)

As Stefan pulled up on the grass of a giant white two story house, Elena couldn't help but gasp. THIS was Damon's house?! It was beautiful… and big!

It had a fountain in the centre of the circular drive way and a beautiful ocean view. It had a massive wooden deck that leads a fair way out to sea and there was a nice modern shed to the side. They had a massive door for what Elena assumed was the garage and the house had steps which lead up to a porch to the double decker white doors. To get to the house you had to drive through a wild but beautiful bush track so it was a very private property. All in all, the house was a very private and beautiful mansion with the most perfect ocean view.

Stefan stepped out of the car and, being a gentleman, opened Elena's door for her. Elena smiled and quickly exited the car before looking up and catching Stefan staring at her intensely. Blushing profusely, Elena ducked her head and looked down at her shoes, she hated when people looked at her for a long period of time, it felt like they were examining her and looking into her very soul. It gave her the creeps.

She heard Stefan step in to the car and carefully lift Damon out. Damon was mumbling something unrecognizable and she looked up only to see Damon curled up in his brothers arms. Elena found it really cute until she realized that Damon had just woken up and was asking Stefan something that seemed obviously important. Damon's eyes were squinted as the light continued to hurt his eyes though he was staring up at Stefan like his younger brother held all the answers of the world and Elena once again found it intriguing how Damon could look so innocent and child-like.

Elena stared at the two brothers that were in their own little bubble and felt a big wave of admiration sweep over as she watched how gentle and patient Stefan was being with Damon. He truly did care about his brother.

"Stefan, Stefan, Stefan" Damon muttered like a chant as his body trembled and he gripped Stefan's jacket tightly as if to keep up with reality. Damon's eyes were wide and petrified, staring at his brother's chest though his eyes were unfocused and glassy. Tears welled up in Damon's eyes as his bottom lip wobbled and he gripped Stefan's jacket and took small shaky breathes. Even though Damon's eyes were unclear, they immediately widened as he realized something. "Ste, Stefan…" He whispered.

Stefan stopped walking and cradled his brother tighter to his chest, he put his other arm underneath Damon's head to support it and Elena felt her heart clench in fear at how Damon's head lolled like a dolls and how weak he seemed. Stefan positioned Damon's head to lean on the inside of his shoulder and into the crook of his neck.

"Yes Damon? What is it?"

Damon stared into nothing as more tears threatened to fall.

"I don't know where I am. I can't remember where I am." He cried shamelessly. Damon's fragile body trembled as he cried loudly and the tears slid down his face like a crystal clear waterfall. Stefan sat down on the second step of the house and gently rocked Damon as he shushed his older brother soothingly. Stefan whispered soothing nonsense while carding his hand gently through his brother's midnight locks, the elder Salvatore's breath coming out in a fast uneven tempo; like a song with no rhythm.

After a while of comforting Damon, he grew into an exhausted state and eventually just laid I his brother's arms for warmth. Stefan stood up once more as Damon's eyelids slid shut and turned around to open the door. When he got to the door he attempted to manoeuvre Damon so he could get his keys from his back pocket but immediately realized that was close to impossible as he didn't want to drop his fragile brother.

"Elena?" he whispered cautiously as Elena's head shot up and she nodded for him to continue. "Could you um… Could you get my key?"

Elena seemed like a lovely woman and all but Stefan still didn't know and frankly, he didn't trust her. Not after what happened with… the other one. For all he knew, she could have already had enough of all this drama that came with knowing his brother and pack her stuff and leave.

He examined her as she stared at his brother in his arms then up to his forest green eyes.

"Sure, where are they?" She asked polity. Stefan couldn't hold back the small sigh of relief knowing that she wasn't going to leave him in this position.

"There in my back pocket, the left one. The key for the house has a fancy 'D' on it."

Elena took the keys out and looked for the 'D' key before placing it in the key hole and twisting it. The door opened with a small click and swung open to reveal a magnificent house. She stepped inside gingerly as Stefan shuffled through the door. He then turned to the left hallway and travelled up another set of stairs.

Elena didn't have any idea of what to do so chose to just sit down on one of the comfy looking chairs by the glass wall that looked out to the Salvatore's private beach. She waited a couple minutes before hearing the light sounds of Stefan walking into the parlour and into her line of vision.

He looked exhausted.

Stefan sighed again in relief when he saw that Elena hadn't left just yet and walked towards his and his brother's homemade bar near the girl that his brother had taken a fancy in.

Grabbing a bottle of scotch and pouring a small amount into a tumbler, he finished the drink in one gulp. Placing the empty glass down, he closed his eyes and savoured the burning sensation slivering down his throat.

After a couple of seconds of comforting silence, Stefan turned towards the brunet and did a funny signal with his hands that left Elena looking at him confused.

The green eyed Salvatore motioned towards the hallway on the left while saying "He's asking for you." Before grabbing the scotch bottle again, ready for the burn of alcohol.

"No."

Pausing mid-action, he looked at Elena who was shaking her delicate head.

"He doesn't want me. He doesn't remember me. He wants you Stefan." She said sadly and stood up, ready to leave not just the house, but Damon's life. That's when Stefan started to panic. She couldn't leave now, she just got here.

He rushed around and gently but firmly put her back on the lounge.

"No Elena. He doesn't want ME, and you and I both know that!" He said, his voice growing in volume. Elena once again shook her head and started walk to the door.

"Stefan you don't need me here. You're doing perfect by yourself. I'm nothing here. You have managed this long by yourself and I just feel like a third wheel intruding in a life you have spent so long creating for your brother. Now… I need to leave." She whispered.

As her hand touched the door knob-

"HE NEEDS YOU!"

THAT stopped Elena in her tracks. The simplicity of the three words had so much meaning and power behind them and she knew that she had to listen to his reasons. If not for herself or him, for Damon.

"I don't know how, or why, but all I do know is that his memory has specifically chosen you as a person to remember. That after five years of the same routine my brother has finally come across someone that has some meaning to him. Someone important that despite his brain injury he has fought for and, I don't know how or why, has remembered YOU! And I'm not ready to let that leave him so soon. He needs this…" Stefan said through tears. Elena turned around and stared Stefan straight in the eye.

"He needs YOU." He whispered to her.

The two adults stared at each other before Elena bit her lip and nodded slowly as she made her way to the hall Stefan had just come from. Making her way up the stairs and coming across a whole other set of hallways she turned to the right and came across a fancy and expensive looking dark wooden door that made an amazing contrast against the baby blue and snowy white walls.

Elena looked at all the other snowy white doors and decided to look inside. She creaked open the door and looked inside.

Elena gasped.

The room was beautiful with a glass wall on the opposite side that showed off the brilliant view of the sunset. The walls were painted a light cream colour. There was a grand dark wooden fireplace and above that was a picture of the full moon hovering over the midnight sea. Next to the fire place was a massive dark wooden book case filled with books that looked decades old though some were quite modern. On the other side of the grand fireplace was a dark wooden doorway that led to a walk in closet. There was a giant Persian rug in the centre of the room and next to the door she was currently standing in was a modern and beautiful ensuite with light brown and tan tiles covering the walls and floor. In there was a spacious walk in shower, a long and thin built in basin and sink with a massive mirror was placed on the opposite wall from the shower and there was a big bowl of different soaps between the two dipped in sinks and not to mention the giant white bath tub in the corner.

Elena looked around and spotted the biggest four poster king sized bed she had ever seen seated diagonally in top corner of the room next to the glass wall of the room where a very sick looking Damon lay.

Elena's breath caught in her throat as she sprinted over to the oversized bed and grabbed his hand. The bed was drenched in his cold sweat, like a bucket had been poured all over the bed. Damon looked as if he was sleeping and Elena quickly sat down on the edge of his bed, keeping her hand in his at all times.

He shuffled a bit and hesitantly opened his eyes, though quickly scrunched them up again. Standing up and pulling the heavy dark curtains over the giant glass wall then running over and switching the lights off, she sat back down and quickly slipped her hand into his, holding onto the memories of their time yesterday.

"you came…" She heard him whisper.

She looked down at his silhouette in the comforting darkness and nodded even though she wasn't sure he saw.

"I didn't think you would." He whispered once more. Elena shut her eyes tightly as a single tear escaped her guard for this young and pained man. She felt for him. She really did.

"Most people don't usually bother coming for me. I don't think so at least." This time the pain and loneliness evident in his voice as Elena stroked his hair in the darkness and caressed his cheek comfortingly.

She hoped that one day, in his dark and unstable life, that he would find somebody that would care for him, and love him, for everyday that he lived on this cruel Earth.

Tenderly stroking his face and squeezing his hand, Elena heard him take a deep breath before whispering unsurely, "I remember you, parts of you at least. I had a dream, or a memory?"

Elena slowly started letting a few tears fall, though this time they were tears of happiness and joy for this man. He had been in one of the scariest and traumatic accidents she had ever heard of and somehow pushed through and survived every day since. He was, in some sense, a miracle.

"What did you dream about?" She asked happily through her tears.

She saw through the darkness Damon smile and shrug. Her eyes, now fully accustomed to the darkness, looked into his baby blues.

"I don't know what I remember; just that something happened, something REAL that made us want to do it over and over again. Something that got us thinking of our favourite as we made our way home, and wondering… When was the last time we had felt or thought this way? Wondering if it is the first time we could be like this? Or the last? It was a time that made us want to live in that moment for eternity, to be able to just pause the universe, because out of all the wasted time in our lives, that moment really mattered and was worth it. We didn't have to think of what could happen tomorrow, or the day after that, just what happened today. And what feelings that moment in time brought us." He explained in awe, his eyes distant as he remembered what he felt and desired.

"That was beautiful" Elena whispered.

She had felt the same way. She had felt like tomorrow didn't matter, but all that did really mean something was that day, that moment in time. And that nothing could ever replace that moment in history with something better or worse. Because all it really was was original and unique, different, a different moment in a different time. And THAT was what made it matter, just her and him in that moment, Damon and Elena.

"Ii was more of a feeling that I remembered than a memory. Like out of everything… that's what I needed to know and feel to life myself up to the next step to start a new chapter in my life. And now I know that it's okay to feel these feelings. It's all okay…" he finished with a lone tear traveling down his cheek.

And then he started crying softly, turning his head and staring Elena dead in the eyes.

Ocean Blue meets Chocolate Brown.

He laughed a humourless laugh, and raised his hands in the air before dropping them to his side again, showing Elena how helpless and lonely he felt.

"Why do I keep crying? I'm so sick of this crying!" He hiccupped while wiping his face, trying to rid his tears, but it was useless. This was a moment to feel. To REALLY feel.

And Elena couldn't do anything to say otherwise.

Damon turned towards the curtain closed glass wall, then back to her, squeezing her hand and saying, "Please don't leave me. Everybody always leaves me. I don't like being alone."

As more tears escaped the both of them Elena could only nod as he moved over and let her into his bed. She quickly wrapped herself up in his damp sheets. He was still sweating and scared of the possibility that she could leave him and Elena didn't know what to do, so she wrapped her arms around his waist and snuggled her face into the crook of his neck while whispering that everything was going to be okay.

Because in that moment in time, they DID actually believe that everything was eventually going to be alright, despite all the tears and heartbreaking cries of pain. And that was yet again, one moment that REALLY and TRULY mattered…

I am so sorry that I have left you guys hanging for so long. I apologize in advance if this happens again but like I said before these last few months have been hectic! I hope this was okay and in the next few chapters some good and cheery stuff will be bound to happen.

And some bad stuff…

I can't wait till The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural start up again next month and Elena finally chose Damon! THAT is a reason to rejoice! So anyway, bye guys! I will try to post two more chapters since I am going on holidays for 2 weeks soon.

THANK YOU!
