Hello! Here's that update! If you didn't know, I'm updating every weekend now! ^.^ yay!
Thank you so much to those who favorited, alerted, and reviewed my story last chapter! I honestly didn't expect to get that many, especially after how I practically abandoned this story for a year. :p
But don't worry, I'm back for good. I'm not leaving again. ;)
Okay, okay, I know you want the story, so here you go... you guys are probably skipping this part aren't you? xD
I'll see you down below, now enjoy!
"Hey, Jack! What's up?"
Jack was at his locker on Monday afternoon when a rather high-pitched female voice called out to him. When he turned around, he saw a blonde girl standing before him. He faintly recognized her from a few of his classes, but he couldn't seem to remember her name.
"Uh, hi," Jack greeted awkwardly, having no idea who this girl was.
"I was wondering if you'd like to come to my birthday party this weekend," the girl announced. "I believe I sent you a message about it on Saturday."
Jack looked at the girl, puzzled once again. He was very sure he hadn't gotten any invites over the weekend to any parties.
"I didn't get the message then," Jack replied, unsure.
"That would explain why you didn't text me back," she said confidently. "I'll text you again later, don't worry. Later, Jack." She flashed Jack a dazzling white smile, turned on her heel, and flipped her long blonde hair back before walking off.
Jack returned packing up, still confused. And then it hit him. He was almost certain that was the Rebecca Price he and Tooth were talking about.
"Yo, Moore." Jack didn't need to turn around to know it was Seth, and he quickened his pace in shoving books into his backpack.
"Hey," Jack said, once he had stood up and had his backpack over one shoulder. He and Seth started to walk towards the exit of the building.
"Since when were you friends with Rebecca?"
"Since never. She somehow got my number this weekend and then she invited me to her birthday party."
Seth clapped Jack on the back. "Dude, no way."
"What?"
"Rebecca doesn't invite us to her parties. Her dad owns a big record label and she's super-rich. Her parties are legendary. I heard that Miley Cyrus was at the birthday party last year."
Jack thanked Tooth for rambling on about a number of popular singers over the weekend, and that list included Miley Cyrus. "Oh. Wow."
"You have no idea how lucky you are," Seth mumbled, "I've been trying to get onto that invitation list since sophomore year, and you get invited on the second day you've been here."
"How about you go instead of me?" Jack tried to offer. He didn't know much about record labels or music people at this point, and Seth seemed much more excited about the invitation than he was. "Big parties aren't really my thing."
"Are you crazy, Jack?" Seth exclaimed in disbelief, waving his arms. "Honestly, I would love to go for you, but Rebecca would murder me if I showed up. You can obviously bring a date with you to the party but I don't think that's what Rebecca has in mind for you."
Seth pointed his chin towards a small group of giggling girls; the tallest one – Rebecca – had her eyes set directly on Jack. "Those girls over there with Rebecca are her minions. They literally do anything and everything for her. You'll probably see some of them at the party, they're dirty-rich too."
"Okay." Jack paused to let the new information seep in. "Maybe I'll give this party thing a little try."
"Party thing?" Ria fell into step with Jack and Seth, walking on the winter spirit's right side.
"Rebecca Price invited Jack to her birthday party," Seth explained quickly.
Ria's face scrunched up in disgust. "Ugh, Rebecca." She looked over at Jack apologetically. "Sorry."
"I take it you weren't invited either?" Jack questioned, unable to find a better response.
Ria laughed, lightly slapping Jack's arm. "You're so funny, Jack. Of course I was invited, but I'm not going. I'm hosting my own party the same time as hers. Mine's open to all public, not just those select few she thinks are 'worth it'."
It didn't take a genius to know what she was implying, but Jack wasn't quite sure if he had heard her correctly. It must've translated to his face, because she proceeded to clarify.
"Seth and Colton would be there, and it's going to be a completely Rebecca-free zone," she assured Jack.
"I'll think about it," Jack told her, but it really wasn't a difficult choice. A party with random fancy people he didn't know or a party with people he knew and could mess around with freely? It was a no-brainer.
The trio didn't speak again until they were outside, where they were met with Tooth.
"Ana!" Ria said enthusiastically, wrapping the Tooth Fairy in a hug.
Jack and Seth rolled their eyes at the girls' greeting, both thinking it to be completely strange. There was no reason to hug each other to death when they've only had an hour apart from each other.
Seth left briefly after Tooth joined the group, but not before giving her a bright smile. Tooth's eyes sparkled at the simple gesture and Jack could tell she was intrigued by his perfectly white and straight teeth. He almost laughed and almost proceeded to tease her, but he remembered where he was.
"You guys want a ride?" Ria asked them five minutes after Seth left.
Jack craned his head to search for North's car among the pool of vehicles in the parking lot, but he already knew he wasn't going to find it.
North had told them this morning that he was taking Sandy somewhere that afternoon and to ask one of their friends to give them a ride home... and that it would also be a good opportunity to get to know their friends better.
"Sure. Our dad's taking our brother somewhere, I think," Tooth told Ria.
Ria grinned. "Awesome. We can swing by Starbucks on the way or something."
She began walking down the steps, Jack and Tooth trailing behind her. They arrived at an old-fashioned car and Ria opened up the trunk for them. She directed the two Guardians to put their bags in, and waited for them in the driver's seat.
Jack climbed into the backseat through the front, admiring the cool sleek interior of the car. He had seen cars like these before, back in the 1960s, when he spent his time in New England, but he had never been in one before. He could only wonder where Ria had gotten a car like this and have it look brand new.
Tooth and Ria sat in the front, and before Ria even began to drive, they were giggling about something Jack didn't understand.
Jack stared at the green trees that blurred by, and absentmindedly, his fingers began to tap on the window. His mind was elsewhere at the moment, and therefore, he didn't notice that he had began to draw an abstract image in frost on the glass. He glanced back at the two girls in the front – they were still engrossed in their strange girly conversation – before he tried to melt the design away with his breath.
The frost just crystalized then, and Jack groaned in frustration. "Crap," he muttered, and he decided the only thing he could do was position his back towards the window and hope Ria wouldn't notice until after it melted.
"Jack!" Ria called, startling him.
"Yeah?" Jack answered, turning his attention back to Ria and Tooth in the front seats. "What?"
"We're here," Tooth told him. She motioned to the brick building in front of the car. A circular green sign revealed the building to be a coffee shop called 'Starbucks".
"Oh," was all Jack said before he got out of the car. He trailed behind the two giggling girls.
The only thing on his mind at the moment was how to explain to Ria in the least strange and most human way that he, in the 317 years of his immortal life, had never drunk coffee before.
Long chapter! Yayyyy!
