Hello there!

I finally got past all the writer's block that has been haunting me the past months! I'm so glad to get this updated because so many people have been asking about it.

Disclaimer: This is inspired by the Youtube video "Soulmates Never Die" by misstranscendental. I recommend you go watch it, because it definitely enhances this story. Also, I don't own the characters of Once Upon a Time. Nope. Not even one.

I hope this chapter clears a few things up. Also, many thanks to anotherOUATwriter for leaving me that idea in the reviews.

Lots of love to my readers, and please review! It gives me motivation to update sooner. (I hope a lot sooner than this last time)

Enjoy!

"David? What's wrong with Emma?" a shrill voice reaches Emma's ears and she could faintly feel fingers brushing past her face.

"I don't exactly know…" a deeper voice says, and arms shift underneath her. Emma struggles to brush past all the darkness behind her eyelids and come back to reality.

"She fainted," another voice says, causing the arms around Emma to stiffen.

"Yes, I understand that," a voice says, and Emma thinks it sounds a bit like David. She shoves her way past the darkness and her eyelids flutter open.

"Emma?" Mary Margaret gasps, and draws closer to her daughter's face.

"I'm fine…I'm fine…" Emma mumbles, trying to squirm her way out of David's arms.

"Woah, careful there," he says, gently setting her down on the couch in the loft. Emma looks up at her worried parents and gives them what she hopes is a smile. There was still fuzziness at the edges of her mind.

"Uhm…I'll just be going…" another voice says.

"No, wait. You have some explaining to do," David says, folding his arms across his chest and turning to face the other person.

"I…I do?" the voice says. Emma shakily stands up and meets the confused blue eyes of the man standing in the loft. All of a sudden, her memories from before rush back and she sways a little.

"Emma, you need to sit," Mary Margaret says, nudging her daughter back towards the couch.

"No…no…I'm fine," she says, taking a few steps back to avoid her outstretched hand.

"How are you here?" David asks the man.

"I came in a cab," the man replies, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. He kept glancing at each of the three people in the room, confusion etching his features.

"That's not what I mean. You're supposed to be dead," David says, stepping closer to the other man.

"Why does everyone keep saying that? I don't even live here!" Kale cries, throwing his hands up in the air.

"No, you don't live here. You came here on the Jolly Roger," David replies, staring down the other man with narrowed eyes.

"The Jolly Roger? Like the ship from Peter Pan?" Kale asks, his eyebrows furrowing together as he regards David.

"You're Captain Hook, and you were dead before. You somehow are alive now, and I can't have you wandering around town causing chaos."

"I don't understand what you're saying. I'm Captain Hook? What gave it away? Was it my curly, permed hair or my waxed moustache?" Kale says, a small half smile on his face when he sees David's eyes widen at his words.

"So I was right, you are him, back from the dead."

"No! I didn't say that! I'm obviously not Captain Hook. My name is Kale Jones, I came here from New York."

"Why? Do you know what this town is?" David says, stepping even closer. He was now a few inches from Kale, and he was still staring at him with narrowed eyes.

"I came because I was looking for someone! I haven't even been here before," Kale says, folding his arms across his chest, mirroring David's defiant stance.

"Who were you looking for?" David demands. Kale glances away from David's stare, and his facial expression shifts to uncomfortable.

"I…uh…I just came here in a spontaneous decision," Kale says, scuffing the floor with his shoe.

"I'm going to ask you again. Why did you come here?" David asks, his tone low and threatening.

"David…" Mary Margaret moves up to her husband and puts a hand on his arm. He relaxes at her touch, but still stares hard at the man in front of him.

"I came here because of someone in my dreams. I wanted to know who she was," Kale finally says after a few seconds of silence.

"Who was it?" This time it was Emma who asked him. Kale's eyes come up from the floor and meet hers. Emma almost takes a step back in surprise because he looks so much like Hook for a moment.

"It was you," he replies. There was a moment of absolute silence where all the people in the loft stand still.

Emma's thoughts were racing. This can't even be right! He's obviously not Hook because he just seems so confused when we bring anything up from his past. He doesn't even have an accent! There had to be some sort of possibility here. He was dreaming about her? What did that mean? While Emma's mind was going a mile an hour, David broke the silence.

"Hold on a second. You were dreaming about Emma?" David asks, and Emma can instantly hear the protective Daddy in his tone.

"I…I…yes…" Kale mumbles, shifting away from the sudden fire in David's eyes.

"That doesn't make any sense," Mary Margaret says, voicing aloud what was going through everyone's minds at the moment.

"I know it doesn't make sense! Of course, what sensible, rational man would just take off from his job and come to some town in the middle of nowhere just for a woman he dreamed about? I don't know! I can't even describe what I was thinking, but it seemed right," Kale says, staring hard at a spot on the floor.

"Maybe he is Hook, he just forgot everything. The dreams could be memories," David says to his wife, but still loud enough for everyone to hear. Emma takes a few steps closer to Kale, causing him to glance up at her. She cautiously reaches out and grabs his left hand.

"That doesn't explain this though," she says, holding up Kale's hand for David to see. He looks at the intact hand for a few seconds before recognition floods into his eyes.

"He has his hand," he mumbles.

"Uhm, yes I do have both hands. I don't see what this has to do with anything," Kale says, gently extracting his hand from Emma's grasp. He reaches up and scratches at the back of his neck for a second before Emma grabs at him again. She grabs his right arm this time, and pushes back the sleeve. There on the underside of his forearm was…nothing.

"You don't have the tattoo anymore," she mumbles, staring at his arm for a few seconds before awkwardly letting go.

"No, I don't have any tattoos. My Mother would murder me if she knew I had gotten one," he replies, giving her a small smile.

"Emma, I think we need to go talk to Gold," David says, his voice breaking the fragile moment between the two.

"Why?" she asks, turning towards him.

"Well, I think he could maybe explain what's going on here," he says, pulling his keys from his pocket as he talks.

"Gold hated Hook," Emma states.

"Then we go to Regina! I just want to know how all of this is possible," David says, pulling the door of the loft open.

"You go…I think I'll go talk to Whale," Emma says, pulling her own keys out of her pocket. David stares at her, then at Kale for a few moments before Mary Margaret ushers him out the door. "I'm sorry about him, he can act like he owns everyone sometimes." Emma smiles a little at the underlying message of her words, and then turns back to Kale.

"Oh, don't worry, my brother was the same way," Kale says, a hint of sadness on his features.

"Uhm, I'm going to go down to talk to Dr. Whale…do you…do you want to come?" Emma asks, nervously tugging at the zipper on her jacket.

"Yeah, I'd love to," Kale says, and follows her out the door.

The pair walk in silence to the hospital. Emma nervously tugs at the zipper on her pocket, thinking of Hook the whole time. Kale looks around at the small town, and occasionally sneaks glances of the blonde woman at his side.

When they reach the hospital, Kale hurries ahead and holds the door open for Emma.

"Still a gentlemen," she mumbles under her breath as she walks in. Kale's eyebrows furrow together in confusion at her words, but he just files that away as one of the many things he doesn't understand about this town.

"Is Whale here?" Emma asks the woman sitting at the desk. She nods back and picks up the phone and says a few words.

"You can go on back," the receptionist says after a few moments, waving at the doors just to the right of her desk. Emma and Kale walk through the doors to see Dr. Whale waiting for them.

"Emma? What was it that you wanted-" his words cut off when he sees Kale. He takes a small step back, and his eyes widen. "How is this possible?"

"I don't know. I was hoping you could explain some things," Emma says, gesturing to her companion.

"He looks almost the same, it's remarkable," Dr. Whale says, moving closer to look at Kale. His eyes take in every detail, and Kale soon grows uncomfortable under his stare.

"Do I know you?" he asks, taking a few steps back.

"Uhm…Kale would you give us a minute?" Emma asks, and he nods. She walks forward and grabs Whale's arm and drags him out of hearing distance.

"It's incredible, he's almost a carbon copy of the late Captain," he mumbles, eyes still on Kale.

"Whale, seriously, focus. How is this possible?" Emma asks.

"It's possible because he has to be a different person. There is a theory that somewhere in the world there is a person that looks just like us walking around," he replies, stuffing his hands in the pockets of his scrubs.

"What else could it be?"

"Right now, there is no explanation."

"There has to be something! He can't just be some stranger off the streets that looks exactly like the man I hit with my car," Emma yells, her patience with the doctor almost at an end.

"There is something else. Have you ever heard of soulmates?" Dr. Whale replies.

"Soulmates? Like two people have the same soul?" Emma asks, confused.

"Sort of. It's more of a legend really. Two people are born, and they have kindred spirits. When they meet, they seem to come together and connect," Whale explains.

"So you're saying I'm soulmates with Hook?" Emma asks.

"Not necessarily. When Hook died, the universe saw fit to bring someone else in his place, which makes me think that there was some sort of connection between the two of you. And now it's between you and this man," he says, pointing over at Kale.

"You mean magic?" Emma asks quietly, trying to process his words.

"Something like that. There's obviously something magic about this Hook look-a-like showing up just a week after he died," Whale says. Emma goes to respond, but a small voice from behind cuts her off.

"Mom! You're all right!" it calls, and a few seconds later small arms are wrapped around her middle.
