Grace stepped out of the TARDIS being back at the graveyard where they had left. She turned around and scanned this strange blue box.
"I still can't believe this." she said with shiny eyes.
"That's how everybody starts." the Doctor answered with a small grin standing in the opened door.
Grace looked at him. She was not sure if she could really dare it to say what seemed so unbelievably strange but had to be true somehow. There was no point in denying what she had seen, and what this odd blue box in front of her was able to do.
"Doctor…?"
He already watched her like he knew what Grace was about to say, but he kept silent at first.
"I've done all this strange things with you today without even realising what it really was." Grace started talking not quite sure where this was leading to. "This angel thing-"
"Herylan" he interrupted her.
"Herylan, yes. Er… You said she comes from another planet that is 200 light years away from earth and inhabited by such angels. - She was an alien."
"Yes, she was." the Doctor answered naturally.
Grace knew that this had been clear the whole time, but one often just begins to realise what has actually happened in a moment of silence, when one can calmly think about everything.
"Okay…"
Grace gulped and closed her eyes for a second.
"Okay I got that. I still can't believe it but… Well, I have seen it!"
She started laughing in absolute disbelief, but the most confusing part was still to come. Grace faced the Doctor again.
"You have a blue police box which is bigger on the inside and moves around…!" she said still laughing and gasping for breath at the same time.
The Doctor did not say a word, both just stared at each other.
"Are you an alien too?"
"Yes"
Grace's expression did not change for a few seconds. Whether she was taking it positively or negatively the Doctor was not really able to say. But then Grace's small nervous smile slowly turned into a good one. She just started laughing out of nowhere, while the Doctor watched her with a slightly confused and worried look on his face.
"Are you alright?" he asked not quite sure where to position her reaction. "Because sometimes people-"
"Yes! Of course I'm alright!" Grace answered and now walked up to him. "O my god! So you are-! I just can't believe this!"
Now it was the Doctor who looked like he wasn't quite sure how to react.
"But you're not an ugly green alien in disguise that's about to show itself?" Grace asked slightly concerned.
"No, of course not." the Doctor answered and now also had a friendly smile on his face. "I may be old, but I haven't turned into an ugly green alien. Yet."
When they stopped laughing Grace looked up into the sky and sighed. Both of them stood still for a few seconds without saying anything or looking at each other.
"Can I ask you something?"
Now they both looked at each other again, and they both expected something which was not easily said.
"I know I'm probably a very strange person, and it's not always easy to get along with me. And I don't even expect an answer from you to the question which I'm about to ask."
They faced each other, but neither of them was looking into the eyes of the other because that just made it even more difficult and embarrassing.
"You said that you are a traveller so…"
Grace now forced herself to look up to the Doctor.
"Can I come with you?"
The few seconds of silence which followed Grace's question made her feel even more embarrassed than ever before, and she immediately said to herself that one should not ask a travelling alien to come with him because this was simply ridiculous.
"But there is danger on the way." the Doctor finally said in strange way so Grace could not tell if this was meant to be funny or the serious truth.
Grace grinned trying to give him one of those casual-cool looks.
"Isn't there always?"
He smiled brightly down to her, and then suddenly Grace burst out laughing.
"Fantastic!" the Doctor exclaimed took her by the hand and led Grace into his TARDIS.
Again she looked around with shiny eyes and gently touched one of the columns next to the door. Grace swore she could hear a gentle humming noise coming from the console as she did so.
"Welcome aboard the TARDIS. That's 'Time And Relative Dimension In Space." the Doctor explained.
"I know, you already said that." she answered him.
"I know I just like saying this part." the Doctor responded as he had run up to the console and dashed enthusiastically around. "And our final destination has been calculated."
"Where is it then?" Grace asked smiling, walking up to him as he pulled a lever.
"Everywhere!"
Okay, that is the end of the Doctor's and Grace's first adventure. I hope you enjoyed it ^_^ But don't worry, now with Grace on board as companion there will be more action still to come. I hope you bear with me and keep reading. See you in the next chapter ^_^
