Chapter Five: Hell's Gate
The sun was just setting when Roma's eyes slowly fluttered open. Looking around as she sat up, she noticed that she was the only one in the bedroom; however there were signs of someone else being in the room. Knowing that she wasn't not completely alone put a smile on her face. Roma slowly made her way out of the bedroom and into the base. She made no noise as she moved to sit next to Mai on the only couch. Feeling them movement of the couch, Mai look next to her and nearly screamed in surprize. At that moment every one looked up to see what cause Mai's reaction.
"Roma! Should you be up and moving so soon?" John asked in worry. The rest of the group nodded their heads in agreement as Marcus moved to stand behind her. Placing his hand on her shoulder, he let his mind connect to hers.
"Roma be careful of what you say to them. They do not know use to understand how you can heal so fast. See if you can play it off as an ability that a vessel has." Marcus sturnly told her.
Roma lowered her eyes in defet before answering, "I know that I cannot tell them yet of what I'm truly am, but I hate lying to them time and time again. I feel like it would get them hurt or even killed if I continue to lie to them like this." Nodding his head, Marcus gently patted her shoulder before letting go. As the connection started to fade, Roma could hear Marcus saying "I know its hard but baer with it for now."
Looking back at the group, Roma started spin a tale that she hope they would believe. "Rapid healing is one of the many abilities that vessels have. If I didn't have something like that then I wouldn't be able to handle housing the arch angle Micheal. My body would have turn to dust if I didn't have the healing ability. Could I possibly have these stiches removed please. They are quite itchy and are hindering me from fully healing my wounds. Thanks!" Ayako move quitly to her side and removed the stiches, and to everyones surprise the holes where the stiches was quitly closed up, making it look like they was never there. A quite 'wow' was hear followed by a 'oh my'. Sitting straighter, Roma became more like her old self.
"Well, now that is taken care of, we are in a very bad sitution. The demon is not dead, nor is he finished with us, and he is not happy after that little spat." Roma cheerfully stated. The mood of the room seemed to seep into a tense atmosphere.
Clearing his thoart, Naru looked straight at Roma as he asked, "What would you do in this issue?"
"The only thing we can do, we hunt it." Roma stated as a scary smile slipped onto her mouth. Every one but Naru and Lin looked surprised.
"What do you meam hunt it? How does one even do that?" Monk spat out in disbelf.
Giving a small laugh, Roma refuted with, "You don't hunt them. Marcus and I will be the ones that does that. Before you even say something, demon hunting is our main job when it comes to working, on or off of cases. We were called in from our main tribe to help with case until Naru see fit to fire us."
"Hunting demons is not as easy as you think. You have to find the demon and you also need to know how to get rid of it for good. You as a demon hunter is quite a story don't you think?" Ayako ran her mouth off.
Lin turned towards Ayako and spoke frankly, "Ayako you might want to be careful of what you say to a hunter; they seem to have a tempament problem. Her records is quite something to see. She as hunted the most demons out of the hunters in her tribe, and has a kill precentage of 96. The 4% that got away was used to lead her and the rest of the hunters back to the gate that they came out of." At that Ayako closed her mouth and sat down.
"Whats the game plan?" Monk asked with his goofy smile.
"The demon is quite wounded right now and he can't heal in this deminson, so he'll have to go back to Hell to heal before he comes back for us. I know for fact that his little hide whole is not the gate, so once night falls he'll make his move. Then Marcus and I will fallow his; kill him and close the gate for good. And that should be it." Roma said as she sat back.
John thought about it for a second before he aired his question, "How do you plan on kill the demon and closing the gate?"
"Thats simple, I go into battle angel mode and Marcus enters guardain mode. We do battle and in the end win, or die trying." Roma voice in her cheerful voice.
Naru stood up and spoke, "Now that we figured out what we will be doing, is there any thing you need us to do?"
"Yes there is. Once we close the gate the area will have to be blessed by Monk, Ayako, and John. With these three blessing it should keep stronger demons from reopening the gate. Mai do you remember the dream that you kept having? If you do, I need you to tell me in detail what the area looked liked." Roma turned her gazes towards Mai.
Nodding her head in understanding, "The dream was really weird. It was different from the others. A major battle was taking place in a field. It had a lake near it and there was alot of trees to one side; kinda like a forest. Then I could make out tar pit that someone or something set fire too. It was also windy were the field was. In the middle of the feild stood a monster that wasn't doing anything. The next thing I knew the fire went out of control and shot straight at the woods and it kept moving until it formed a star. The ground cave in and the battle begin. Thats it. There's nothing more to tell you."
"Good job Mai. What you were dreaming was of a battle at a Hell's gate that I was part in many years ago. Do we by any chance have a map of this land and the areas next to this one?" Roma asked Naru as they got up to move to the table with all the papers laying on it. Diging under some files, Naru handed her the maps. "You said that there was a firey star like shape that moved from the tar to the woods and so on." Mai nods her head, "Well Hell's gates are very rare for one reason alone. They have to be in the center of a fire pentagram that contects the five elements at equal distants. If we look at the map for the five elements we should be able to figure out where the Hell's gate is located. The nearest body of water is a little stream just north of here." Roma stated.
Pointing at the map, Ayako spoke up, "Here is a cluster of trees that could be considered earth."
"There is a old mine shaft right here. They use to mine silver." Monk said as he pointed to the map.
Marcus looked at the dots that they put on the map as he spoke up. "It's the barn. That is where the Hell's gate is. It's the freaking barn."
"Ya your right. If we fill in the other two and drew the lines then the barn would be right in the middle. Well the family should say goodbye to the barn because there wouldn't be a barn left after we're done sealing the gate. Well we can seal the gate and kill the demon but we need one small thing. Mai, as a seer, we need you to donate some blood. Before you freak out, we need just enought to draw a small sign that will be use to seal the gate." Roma said a she went to collect a small bowl and a knife.
"Wait one minute! Your not going to hurt Mai we wont you!" Monk shouted in out rage.
Ayako smacked him in the back of his head before stating, "She is not going to hurt her. I'm a doctor, I can easly draw blood from her arm. She wont even feel it. Plus she already agreed to let it happen."
"We probley should get started. It'll take a bit to get ready and we need to do this before it gets dark other wise we are all good as dead." Roma said as they began to seal the gate.
The team began to do their own parts of the sealing. John went to get his bible and his holy water so that he could do his blessing after it was all finished. Monk was already ready because he always carried his blessed beads in his pocket, and Mai was being a good girl and having Ayako drawing out some blood to use, but not enough to hurt her. Once everyone was ready Ayako handed Roma the blood and they moved out ot the field. However, onve they reached the fince only Roma and Marcus continued on towards the barn.
"Are you ready?" Marcus asked looking at Roma.
Looking him in the eyes, Roma stated, "No, but lets do it anyway." Slowly, Roma dipped her fingers into the bowl of blood before bring them to the side of the barn. As high as she could reach, Roma started to write PRO NOBIS APUD DEUM FORTEM STAMUS. Right under those words she drew the crown of thorns that was placed upon Christ's head, and through the crown she drew the cross of Christ. Once the pitcure was done she wrote under it, QUI STAT PRO FILIIS DIABOLI DEI OBSEQUAR! Once she was done she threw the rest of the blood on the ground and began to chant.
In this time of war,
the vessels that can't stand no more,
calls out to thee,
to raise their voice once more,
now hear their sad voices,
power of the vessels rise,
course unseen arcoss the skies,
cone to thee who calls upon you,
come and complete your due,
hand to hand I beg of thee,
hand to hand set us free.
As Roma chanted her spell, the barn was engolfed by flames as the sealing began. Out of the flames shot a blast of fire that landed right in the trees. Instead of burn out of control like one would think, the fire shout out of the trees into different directions. When the fire was done jumping from place to place, it became apparent that the shape it took on was that of a pentagram. Roma and Marcus backed off from where the barn use to be as the ground open up to revel the gate that the demon had travel through. Marcus looked at Roma and nodded his head.
Roma nodded back before she threw open her arms and started to scream a chant that would close the gate.
HEAR THESE WORDS,
HEAR MY CRY,
SPIRIT GUIDE FROM THE HEAVENLY SKIES,
COME TO ME,
I CALL ON THEE,
CROSS NOW THE GREAT DIVIDE.
A light lit the sky even through it was in the middle of the day. The light slowly form into the words and shape that Roma first drew on the barn. Roma slowly close her eyes to help her consatrate. Slowly out of the bright lights came five figures with wings that was prue white. Each one landed on one of the five point of the star, and slowly open their mouths. From the distence the group could hear what sounded like singing but they couldn't make out any of the words. Slowly pillers of light shot out from where the angels were standing and contected in the middle of the pentagram. The gate started to slowly close and the fire began to fade. After what seemed like an hour, a tired and dizzy, Roma lowered her arms as the lights begin to fade. Once all the light was gone only thing that could be seen was a massive bolder what had PRO NOBIS APUD DEM FORTEM STAMUS. QUI STAT PRO FILIIS DIABOLI DEI OBSEQUAR with the picture in the middle of the words.
Some of the team began to cheer and clap; however, their victory was short lived beacuse a scream of outrage fill the air. The wounded demon appeared infront of Roma, whom already was on the verge of passing out due to using to much power. Before Marcus could do anything, Monk and Ayako combinded their powers and banhished the demon back to Hell, where it belonged. A loopy, Roma gave the team a thumbs up, before falling hard on her butt. The group laughted before making their way back to their base.
As the team slowly packed way the equitment, Monk voiced a question that was on his mind, "What did that writing mean?"
"It meant we stand strong with God on our side, and the devil will bow to God, who protects his children." Roma said looking up from the box she was working on. Once every thing was packed up in the van, they made their way back to the office to hangout before heading off home.
As the group began get ready to leave for home, Mai stated, "One thing still bothers me about my dream Roma. What ever happen to the girl who jumped into the gate?""
Smiling Roma replied, "That's simple, she's talking to you right now."
"What that was you. But how are you alive? You jumped into the gate!" Mai exclaimed.
Marcus cleared his throat causing everyone to look at him, "ROMA SIVLERFAN! DO YOU CARE TO EXPLAIN WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT! WHAT DOES SHE MEAN YOU JUMPED OFF? YOU SAID YOU WERE PUSHED IN!" The group could see that Marcus was very angery at her, but was to afraid to say something.
"What she said is true. I did jump in because I wanted to end the battle fast so that way I wouldn't miss the next episode of my show." Roma said as with a huge smile on her face.
A fine twich started in Marcus' brow as the group started to laugh. "This is not funny! Roma Silverfang when we get home we're going to have a long talk about your reckless actions and what could have happen because of them."
At this every one laugh including Roma.
