Asterstar walked into the RottenClan camp with Plaguescratch, surprised to see that there were four cats there she didn't recognise.

Honestly, she expected Beartooth not to invite anyone to join the clan.

She would have to worry about them later though, right now, she had more pressing matters to attend to.

She leapt up onto the high stump.

"Everyone who is old enough to catch their own prey, please join me by the high stump for an important meeting!"

Everyone, except the kits, gathered around, including the newcomers.

"As you may know, I went to the moonpool, there, I received my nine lives, and now, as leader, it is time I appoint my deputy, and the deputy that I am appointing is Beartooth!"

"Beartooth! Beartooth!" everyone cheered.

After the noise died down, she walked over to Beartooth.

"Who are these new cats?" she asked.

Beartooth pointed at one of the cats with her tail, a large fluffy dark grey tom, with a darker face, and icy blue eyes.

"That's Smokey, he's a loner."

Asterstar walked over to Smokey.

"From this day forth, you will be known as Smoketalon!"

She then walked up to the next cat, a muscular white tom, with a brown specked back, and a solid brown tail.

"From this day forth, you will be known as Whispertail!"

She then walked up to the next cat, an elderly brown tabby tom with one green eye, and one eye that was milky white.

"From this day forth, you will be known as Whiteeye!"

"Oh no I won't, my name is Sam, it's been Sam ever since before you were born, and it's staying that way," the old tom meowed.

"If you don't accept your warrior name, then we can't accept you into the clan," Beartooth spat.

"Ignore my deputy, it seems that in my time away, she's forgotten not only her manners, but the warrior code as well, your may keep your kittypet name," Asterstar meowed, glaring at Beartooth.

She then turned to the last cat, a young pale-silver she-cat with bright blue eyes.

"How old are you?" she asked.

"She was a kitten when I found her, no more than two moons old, that's been about five moons ago if I remember correctly, her name is Slyvia by the way," Sam meowed.

"Well, since she is old enough to be an apprentice, I think it calls for a ceremony," Asterstar meowed.

She jumped back onto the high stump, not bothering to call everyone to gather around, since they were already standing around the stump, from when she had appointed Beartooth deputy.

Then, she gave Slyvia her apprentice name, Sleekpaw, and assigned Cinderthroat as her mentor.

After that, she went to the nursey, to see how the kits were doing.

"Why did you assign Cinderthroat to be her mentor? I wanted her to be my mentor," Spiritkit grumbled.

"Because, you won't be ready to be an apprentice for another moon, and Cinderthroat has been a warrior longer than Smoketalon and Whispertail, it wouldn't be fair to her."

"But you've been a warrior longer than ALL of them, why couldn't you mentor her?" Spiritkit protested.

"Because I'm the leader, and as leader, I have many responsibilities, and I don't have time to mentor someone at the moment," Asterstar meowed. She was surprised at Spiritkit's behaviour, she usually didn't act like this.

"There won't be enough mentors for us all! There are six of us, and only three warriors!" Amberkit exclaimed.

"Once you're old enough, Cocklepaw will more than likely be a warrior, and Fungustongue will be a warrior," Asterstar meowed.

"Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something," Fungustongue meowed, "In private."

Asterstar nodded, and she walked with Fungustongue, away from the kits, and anyone else who could be listening.

"What is it?" she asked.

"I don't think this life is for me, my kits love it here, and I'm not going to take them away, but I don't want to do this anymore," Fungustongue meowed, looking down at her paws.

"What?" Asterstar hissed, "After everything I've done for you, this is how you repay me?"

"I'm sorry Asterstar, I tried to live your life, but like I said, it's not the life for me."

"Go then, get out of here, but if I ever catch you on RottenClan territory again, I won't hesitate to attack," Asterstar growled.

"Can't I at least say goodbye to my kits first?" Fungustongue asked.

"No!" Asterstar yowled, raking her claws down Fungustongue's side.

"Yeah! Get out of here, one less kittypet to worry about!" Beartooth spat, as Fungustongue ran out of the camp.

Asterstar turned to look at her.

"It seems your stalking skills are improving, I didn't even hear you sneak up," she meowed warily.

"What am I going to tell the kits?" she then asked.

"The truth, that their mother abandoned them to go live in the comforts of a soft kittypet life," Beartooth sneered.

"You know that isn't exactly true," Asterstar sighed.

Part of her regretted how she reacted towards Fungustongue, however, the other part of her was still so furious that she left. What kind of mother would just leave her kits when they weren't even old enough to be apprentices yet?

She sighed, as she reflected on memories her own kits, they had just turned a moon old old when they were taken to StarClan, when a bad bought of greencough hit the clan.

"Asterstar? Asterstar!" Beartooth yowled.

Asterstar shook her head, and stared at her deputy.

"Sorry Beartooth, I got lost in thought for a moment."

"Should we tell everyone about Fungustongue?" Beartooth asked.

"Yes, that would be best," Asterstar meowed, walking back over to the high stump.

"Everyone who is old enough to catch their own prey, gather around the high stump!"

"Another meeting?" Sam grumbled, but he walked over there nonetheless, closely followed by Sleekpaw.

"I'm afraid I have some bad news, Fungustongue has left the clan."

"What why?" Cinderthroat wheezed.

"She said that the clan life wasn't for her, and she wanted to return to her old life."

"So, she just left her kits?" Whispertail spat, looking over at the nursery.

"No! Who will feed us now?" Eveningkit yowled, running out of the nursery.

Asterstar sighed, she wished the stump wasn't so close to the nursery, she didn't want the kits to know yet, not like this anyway.

"You are four moons old, you should be able to eat by yourself!" Beartooth spat.

"I think we should go out and look for her, and bring her back!" Sunkit exclaimed.

"Why? She doesn't want us, I say we claw her fur off if we see her," Amberkit growled with fury burning in her green eyes.

Sunkit looked down at the ground.

"But she must want us, she's our mother."

"I lost my first mother, now I lost my second mother," Spiritkit wailed.

"She's not lost forever, I'm sure she'll come back," Whispertail meowed, wrapping his tail around Spiritkit.

Asterstar knew better though, even if she did want Fungustongue back, she would never go back on the promise she made to her.

"Where are Moonkit and Skunkkit?" she asked, noticing that the kits were nowhere in sight.

"Maybe they left with Fungustongue," Cinderthroat meowed.

Asterstar shook her head.

"No, they weren't with her when Fungustongue and I were talking, and I didn't see them leave with her, everyone split up, Cinderthroat, you watch the kits, Beartooth and Cocklepaw, you search the south end of the forest, Smoketalon, take Sleekpaw and go east, Whispertail you go west, and I will go east."

"Aren't you being a little hasty Asterstar?" Beartooth asked, "It's not like they've been gone long."

"Every second counts, leaf-bare is coming, if we don't get them back here soon, they could freeze to death, or be picked off by a hawk or something!" Asterstar exclaimed.

"Fine, but if I find them, I'm going to claw their fur off!" Beartooth growled, before running off into the trees with Cocklepaw following close behind.

"Oh StarClan, please watch over those kits!" Asterstar begged.

"It's good we're getting more warriors," Honeyflower remarked, after she walked into the den with Smokestar, after he had appointed Gingerpaw, now Gingerstripe, as CricketClan's newest warrior.

Not only had Gingerstripe earned her warrior name, but the day before that, her brother, Pebblepaw, now Pebbleblaze, earned his medicine cat name.

"Smokestar!" Silverstripe exclaimed, racing into the den with Sparrowpaw.

"What is it?" Smokestar asked, sensing the urgency in Silverstripe's voice.

"I saw Whitespot, he was on the ScorpionClan border with Frecklenose!"

"Well, I'm glad he's okay, but what's he doing associating with ScorpionClan?" Smokestar asked with a small hiss.

"I don't know, you don't think they could be planning an attack or something, do you?" Silverstripe asked.

"I wouldn't fret over it so much, Stingstar has been the leader of ScorpionClan ever since before any of us were born, and he's never sent his clan to attack us before," Honeyflower meowed.

"That is true, but we both know that Stingstar is really old, what if-" Smokestar shook his head, he didn't want to believe that his ex-warrior would do something so heinous.

"It's probably nothing, but we should keep a look out in case anything does happen," he meowed, "Thank you for telling me Silverstripe, if you see anything else, please let me know."

As she and Sparrowpaw were leaving, he followed them out, and headed over to Butterflymist's den.

"Hello Butterflymist," he greeted her. She was currently pressing cobweb's on Pigeonpaw's shoulder.

She looked up from what she was doing.

"Hello Smokestar, if you've come to ask if I've had any signs, I haven't, and Pebbleblaze hasn't either."

"Thank you Butterflymist," Smokestar meowed, walking back out of the den. It was apparent by the medicine she-cat's voice, and the way her eyes seemed to dullen everytime she saw him, that she was beginning to resent him. The last thing he wanted, was for his medicine cat to dislike him, but he also couldn't give up on his sister.

He knew he should send a patrol out to look for her, he should have done that a long time ago, but he also didn't want to. He hated to admit it, but everyone seemed much more happy and at ease ever since Asterheart and Bearpaw left, the joyful mood of the clan only increased after Whitespot left.

Perhaps StanClan was planning something that no one could see yet, Smokestar just wished he knew what that something was.

"Skunkkit! Where on earth have you been? Where's Moonkit?" Asterstar demanded when the small kit raced into the camp, his semi-fluffy fur was covered in mud, twigs, and leaves.

"He's coming," Skunkkit meowed.

Moments later, Moonkit came walking into the camp, dragging a rabbit.

"See the rabbit Moonkit caught? It's SO big! We both had to drag it most of the way, then Moonkit wanted to drag it into the camp, because he's the one who caught it," Skunkkit exclaimed.

"Moonkit caught a rabbit?" Asterstar asked with surprise, momentarily forgetting her anger.

"Oh yeah, you should have seen him, he ran faster than the wind, the rabbit didn't even have a chance!"

"How did a deaf cat know a rabbit was there?" Beartooth meowed, walking up to them.

"His ears might not work, but his eyes and nose still do," Skunkkit meowed.

"What happened to you? Why are you so dirty?" Asterstar asked, wanting to get all the facts of what the two kits went through, before she punished them.

"Moonkit and I were practicing our fighting moves, and he beat me every single time," he turned to Beartooth, "You were wrong about him, he's not useless, and he can fight, and he can hunt."

"How do I know you two didn't just find the rabbit already dead? As for his fighting skills, I doubt it was very hard for him to beat someone who is only about half his size," Beartooth spat.

Asterstar leaned down to sniff the rabbit.

"It smells pretty fresh to me, I believe these kits are telling the truth," she meowed.

"Well, if they are, then they broke the warrior code, kits aren't supposed to hunt," Beartooth growled.

"Yes, and I will deal with them accordingly, you can go and assign the patrols, that is your job after all," Asterstar meowed, before walking away, beckoning Skunkkit and Moonkit to follow her.

"What you did was very bad, you should never sneak off without telling anyone, in fact, you shouldn't leave the camp at all, at least not until you're an apprentice, and even then, you should have your mentor with you," Asterstar growled.

Skunkkit laid his eyes flat against his head, and scurried back behind Moonkit.

"Y-You're not going to kick us out, are you?" he squeaked.

"Of course not, but you will have to be punished, and I think your punishment should be to clear ticks off the elders for a full moon once you become apprentices," Asterstar meowed, "Now, go back to the nursery."

Skunkkit jumped up, and tapped Moonkit with his tail. Asterstar watched them as they ran to towards the nursery. Skunkkit was right, Moonkit was really fast.

"Asterstar?"

Asterstar turned around, to see Cinderthroat standing there with three new cats.

"Who are they?" she meowed, giving the cats a look over.

They seemed to be rogues from the state of them, their coat wasn't soft and glossy like a kittypet's, and they didn't look well-fed either.

One of them looked like she could be expecting kits though, a brown, red, and orange tabby she-kit with hazel eyes.

"I'm Ash, this is my sister Slate, and her mate Finch," a white she-cat, with different shades of grey spots on her pelt, meowed, "We're sorry for intruding on your territory, but we noticed a couple of kits walking alone through the forest, we just wanted to make sure they were okay."

"Thank you, they are fine, would you like to join RottenClan?" Asterstar asked.

"We need to discuss it first," Finch, a ginger and white tabby tom, meowed, walking away with the two she-cats.

Asterstar hoped that they would join, even though her clan was growing every day it seemed, it wouldn't hurt to have new members, especially if kits were being added to the equation.

"We have decided, we will join," Finch meowed, walking back over with Ash and Slate.

"Okay, then, from this day forth, you will be known as Finchflight."

She turned to Ash.

"From this day forth, you will be known as Ash-heart."

Lastly, she turned to Slate.

"Are you expecting kits?" she asked.

"Yes, why?" Slate meowed.

"Because, instead of sleeping in the warrior den with the rest of the warriors, you will be sleeping in the nursery, also, your hunting will be done for you."

"I can still hunt for myself," Slate meowed, sounding a little offended.

"Probably, but it's against the warrior code, and if you want to join the clan, then you have to follow the warrior code," Asterstar meowed. She felt a bit like a hypocrite, she wasn't an expert at following the warrior code. In fact, the way she was naming cats warriors, without holding a ceremony, wasn't customary.

"Okay, but I still want to help out in anyway I can," Slate meowed.

"I appreciate your eagerness to help, from this day forth, your name will be Slatefur."
Next time, she promised herself, next time she would do the ceremony, she would make RottenClan a clan that that StarClan could be proud of.

"Don't you think it's time to relax? It's been over a moon since Siverstripe spotted Whitespot with Frecklenose," Honeyflower meowed.

"I know, but remember when Onefang said she scented him over by the creek, as well as a scent of a ScorpionClan cat shortly after that? I can't stop the feeling that something bad is going to happen," Smokestar meowed.

Honeyflower hated seeing him like this, constantly pacing around his den, looking over his shoulder every five minutes, as though he was expecting someone to attack.

She hated to think this, especially since he was her leader, as well as her mate, but she didn't think he was fit to run CricketClan, not right now with all the stress that was weighing him down.

She didn't say it out loud though, she didn't want to add even more to his worries.

She couldn't keep it to herself though, it would eat her up inside. She decided that she would go and spill her troubles to Butterflymist, the medicine she-cat was a really good friend of hers, and she knew that she would keep her secret.

"Hello Honeyflower, if you're wondering if I've had any signs yet about Asterheart or Bearpaw, I haven't," Butterflymist meowed, when she made her way into her den.

"Oh no, it's not about that, I know you will tell us when you do," Honeyflower meowed.

"Oh, is it about Silverstripe then? It's good that the clan is going to be having new kits soon, it's a shame that it's leaf-bare though."
"What? Silverstripe is expecting kits? Why didn't she tell me?" Honeyflower asked.

"She only just found out when I told her," Butterflymist meowed, giving Honeyflower a reassuring lick to her ear.

"This is so exciting, I can't believe my daughter is expecting kits," Honeyflower purred, thinking back to when Silverstripe was just a kit herself, it hadn't seemed like that long ago, when she was still in the nursery, an eager kit to begin her apprentice training. Now, she was going to have kits of her own.

"Yes, but what did you want to speak to me about, if it's not about Silverstripe?" Butterflymist asked.

"Oh, it can wait," Honeyflower meowed, not wanting to spoil the good news with her worries about Smokestar.

"Are you sure? I'm always here to listen if you ever need to talk."

"Yes, I'm sure," Honeyflower meowed, she began walking out of the den, when Butterflymist's voice stopped her.

"If it's about how Smokestar has been behaving, I've noticed it too, and I'm sure I'm not the only one," she meowed softly.

"There's nothing wrong with Smokestar!" Honeyflower spat. Even though she was currently thinking the same thing, she couldn't help but to feel defensive over her mate.

"I'm sorry if this upsets you Honeyflower, but it's not good to keept this bottled in," Butterflymist meowed, softly, yet firmly.

"You know, I don't know why I came to you in the first place, StarClan obviously isn't communicating with you, or you would have had a sign by now," Honeyflower growled, feeling the fur on her body rise.

Butterflymist took a step back, her blue eyes were opened wide, and her ears were lying flat against her head.

Upon seeing the scared look on her friend's face, Honeyflower realised how aggresive she was being.

"I'm sorry Butterflymist," she meowed, letting her fur lay flat again, "It's just, I'm so worried about Smokestar, he's not the same cat I used to know."

"It's okay Honeyflower," Butterflymist meowed, resting her tail on Honeyflower's shoulders, "Smokestar will get through this, we just have to be patient."
