the vampire and the werehog 2: chapter 7

Sonic's POV

I was growling as i turned to the figure that sauntered into the forest. The figure, that i had recognized as my own brother, had probably been searching for Shadow and Constance to finish what he had started. Obviously he hadn't found even one of the two if he was returning home with his head so low. Good.

I stalked after him into the woods. That he didn't find them didn't mean that i was going to let it rest. They could still encounter eachother during another hunt and that may not end aswell as last time. I had to make sure that he would leave them alone for good.

I ran after him when he was getting hard to see because of all the trees and bushes. I couldn't lose sight of him now. Who knows when i'll get another chance at coming across him? I had to use this opportunity while i still could.

Up ahead i saw him coming closer and closer as i put less distance between us. The other werehog hadn't even seen or heard me coming untill i was right behind him.

He turned around in shock and couldn't react in time as i clawed at his chest, leaving four deep scratches that began to bleed quite a bit.

"Argh!" He yelped and stumbled back a little.

I grabbed his shoulder, sinking my claws into his flesh as i did so, and pushed him roughly against the thick trunk of a tree.

"W...What the hell." The werehog coughed. He was about to say something else, but nothing left his lips. His eyes widened as he seemed to finally recognize me.

"No way... Sonic?! This is where you've been hanging out this whole time? Heheh, why am i not surprised that i find you wandering around all alone here?" My young brother growled in amusement.

I pulled him back a little, only to push him back against the tree to make him shut up.

"Listen here, Scourge! I'm not interested in having a little chat with you. I'm only here to get something through that thick skull of yours!" I growled, Scourge's amused expression leaving to make place for an angry one.

"You've been gone for years and this is how you treat your brother? Dad was right, you don't have the right to become the alpha." Scourge growled.

"I don't care about being the alpha and you all know it! What i care about is making sure that you won't attack my mate or daughter ever again!" Sonic growled, his large and dangerous teeth showing. He could do alot of damage with those.

Scourge's eyes widened in realisation as he quickly figured out just who his brother had been talking about.

"No way... Your mate is a vampire?! And you have a kid with that thing aswell?! Oh man, that's low, even for you." He said. A smirk grew on his face once his shock wore off.

"It doesn't matter if he is a vampire or not. What matters is that you attacked them. And if i ever see or hear of you hurting them again, than i will make sure you regret ever being born!" I threatened. Scourge's eyes narrowed as he glared at me.

"You traitor!" He growled before clawing at my chest, making my growl and jumped away from him to safety.

"First you abandon us, then you choose the enemy as your mate and now you also have an evil spawn with that thing?! I can't believe I ever called you my brother!" Scourge growled in anger as he lashed out at me again. I barely missed the dangerous claws.

I growled back at him. I never abandoned them. I would never abandon the family I came from! How many lies did they feed my younger siblings?!

"Scourge? Is that you? Who are you talking to?" A voice resonated from the woods. It's owner sounded like a female. Could she be Scourge's mate?

I didn't stick around long enough to find out.

"Yeah, go ahead and run! Run like the coward you are, Sonic!" Scourge yelled after me as I ran through the woods as fast as I could on all fours.

I couldn't afford to have someone else involved. And I certainly didn't want the two of them on my tail. So bailing was the only answer I could conjure up at the moment.

Things weren't any better at home.

When I arrived and somehow got my bulky form in through the front door, I was met with the glaring crimson eyes of my mate, even though the hallway had been empty just a second before and I had not heard any footsteps.

His sudden appearance had startled me. You'd think that, after being together for eleven years, you would be used to it by now. Not in my case.

Curse that silent speed vampires possessed!

"Explain. Now." Shadow demanded in a strained tone. He was still a bit ticked off from that assault on our daughter by my brother and my sudden dissapearance just managed to fuel that anger even more.

I sighed, allowing my muscles to relax.

"Don't worry, I'm not going to hide anything. Just get yourself comfortable on the couch first, okay?" I suggested.

Shadow reacted by turning on his heels and walking into the livingroom before dropping down on the couch with one leg crossed over the other, but still as stiff as ever.

"I'm waiting." He said.

"If you're wondering where I went, I went to search for my brother. I wanted him to know that he should stay away from you and Constance." I told him since he was probably also wondering where I had vanished to.

"I know. Where else would you wander off to without telling me, your mate?" He responded and waited for my real explanation to come.

I sat down in front of him on the floor, we were at eye level now.

"Back when I was still in my pack, I used to be part of a family of six. Jules and Aleena were my parents and Scourge, Manic and Sonia were my younger siblings." I started my explanation by sort off introducing my family to my mate. I should've done this quite a while sooner. I guess it was a bit strange that, after being together for eleven years and having two kids, I had never told Shadow anything about relatives. It was time that I did.

"As oldest of the litter, I was supposed to take over the position of alpha when my dad couldn't lead anymore. I wasn't so interested in leading the pack. It might sound a bit cliche, but I just didn't think I could handle such a big responsibility. I literally tried all kinds of acts to disobey my parents to show them that. One day, when I was fifteen, it got out of hand and Sonia got seriously hurt. I got scared and fled." I took a pause to take a breather.

Shadow was listening intently, allowing every word to sink in.

"Five years later I met you and suddenly I got you pregnant with Silver and Constance, so I decided that there really was no reason for me to try to go back to the pack anymore." I finished my explanation and sighed, feeling like a large weight had just been lifted off of my shoulders. I hadn't exactly talked about this to anyone, mainly because I prefered to be alone.

That is, until I met Shadow.

The story of how we met might not exactly be wonderful, but we still love eachother with our whole hearts and souls.

"Why didn't you tell me this before?" Shadow asked, considerably calmer then just a moment or two before.

"I didn't think I was ever going to run into them again, so I sort off didn't think it was important enough to bring up." I answered.

"Oh Sonic." Shadow sighed as I placed my head on his lap before stroking my rough fur.

"It doesn't matter what kind of a past you have with your family. What matters is that you are blood relatives and nothing is going to change that. Neither can you undo the mistakes that you've made. And pretending that it never happened by keeping me in the dark isn't going to help either. I'm your mate, I'm here for you if you let me." He told me.

I could feel him placing a kiss on my forehead before resting his head on top of mine.

"So... Does this mean that we're going to 'take care' of eachother in the bedroom?" I asked hopefully, although it was also meant to tease him.

"What?! Contance is still awake, you horny-" His sentence was cut short by a cringe as a stream of sunlight came in through a crack in the curtains and hit him in the face.

I quickly lifted one of my large hands to prevent it from touching him any longer.

"It's morning. I think it's about time that you head into your coffin, countess." I teased him with a smirk.

"I don't have a coffin and I'm not a countess, Sonic." Shadow responded as he pushed himself up from the couch and moved out of the sunlight's reach.

"And good night." He said and briefly went to his knees to press his lips against mine before making his way upstairs to sleep.

He wasn't even upstairs for a moment when I started to change back to my regular self.

When the tiring transformation was finally complete, I decided to follow my mate's example and get a few hours of sleep before starting another day.
