Author's Notes

Alright, so here we are the next chapter! I am trying to get better about updating more frequently, but trying to do so during the holiday season isn't going to happen. I guess I will make it my new year's resolution. lol

~Also, I am not claiming to know a lot of Norse mythology, there are many facts that I get a bit confused. So for those of you who know more about it; please don't hate me for any confusion. Let's just say that for the good of this story what Thor says is truth okay?

*PLEASE READ the end Author notes. I have a question for you guys that I would love an answer to.*

Well with out further ado!

Chapter 7: But he's a god!

Will power. Sheer willpower was all that was keeping Jack from bursting out with laughter. He could easily see where Steve's skepticism was coming from. This god had messy blond hair hanging down to his shoulders; indication that either he didn't brush it, or the wind had played some mischief of its own. His outfit was beyond bizarre; bands of hard leather were intricately intertwined over scale like body armor. Six metal discs adorned the chest plate. One set was positioned on his pecks, another over his ribs, and the last set covered his pelvis. The same hard leather made up his bracers, leggings, and boots. Then to top it all off, a large red cape draped over his shoulders down to his ankles. With an oversized hammer tight in his grip, Jack made the quick conclusion that Steve was probably right in his assumptions.

Suddenly his mental laughter was silences by said man's booming voice, "My friends, it is good to see you again. Heimdall tells me, you have need of me?"

Frost had to hand it to the man; he sure knew how to command attention. Even if it was by simply talking, everyone in the room had turned their full attention to him. Though Stark looked more like he was preparing to make a snide remark, Fury quickly cut him off.

"Within the last week a new set of energy readings has been picked up by our scanners. We had originally intended to keep an eye on the readings and learn what we could of them. That was until a small town came under attack from these unknown enemy, I deemed it best to call you all back together."

"Were you able to identify the threat?" Thor asked, his voice held both intrigue and concern.

"Captain here led the team into town do some recon. After some investigating they were able to conclude that there was at least one individual working alone, and a group of unknowns working together. Each side has a power that is both dangerous and mysterious to us; what's more they seem to be each other's enemy."

"How certain are you that they are foes?" Thor inquired.

"We're not." Fury said flatly.

"We have already concluded that the kid and those sandy beings are not on the same side. It was clear as day to anyone with eyes." Stark proclaimed. His eyes shot over to gaze at the twitching eye of Fury. "Oh sorry, should I have said eye?"

"Kid? You are concerned about a child?" Thor looked at Fury skeptically.

"Why does everyone here keep calling me that?" Jack mumbled just loud enough for Thor to catch.

Thor stiffened as the words hit his ears. Quickly the bells of recognition tolled in his mind, the one who had spoken was someone he knew from long ago.

Fury and the rest of the Avengers instantly noticed the God of Thunder tensing. An air of uncertainty hit them as he turned his head ever so slowly to glance about the room. Starting at the end of the table next to Fury he spotted Banner, next to him was Stark. Each of them sending question looks.

He ignored them and moved down the line; Clint sat next to Stark and beside him was Natasha. Both agents were strung so tightly the smallest sound was sure to set them off. He gave them a reassuring head nod, but said nothing as he glanced at the last two figures at the table.

First he noticed Steve was sitting next to Natasha, though visibly less tense, he was boring a question into the God's eyes. Then finally he spotted what he was looking for.

Sitting on the back of one of the conference chairs was a young looking male whose whole appearance screamed cold. The lad looked utterly confused as his own eyes fluttered about the room in confusion and curiosity.

Thor gave a soft frown when the boy looked at him but said nothing. Surely this had to be the one he has long since known, there is no mistaking the appearance. "Jokul?"

Jack's eyes widened a bit as the god addressed him, "Who me?"

Thor did not reply but approached him. Silence permeated the air as Thor leaned in to look Jack straight in the eye. Jack's body fidgeted but his eyes never once wavered under the intense gaze.

Finally Thor stood up and bowed his head, and in a voice not normally directed towards his friends he addressed the group. "What did you do?"

"I didn't do anything!" Jack responded automatically, his hands ripping from his hoody pocket in a sign of peace.

"Not you." Thor replied gently to Jack, but then hardened his voice as he glanced at his allies. "I was addressing them."

Jack followed the god's stare and instantly saw the shocked faces of his hosts. Fury noted the difference in tones and became extremely defensive. "So you know him?"

"Yes."

"Care to enlighten me how you two are acquainted?" Fury prompted when the god didn't offer more.

"First you will explain to me what you have done to him." Thor retorted.

"You know who I am?" Jack spoke up, clearly unaffected by the thick tension in the air.

Thor looked back at the spirit sympathetically, "I do."

Jack practically flew off the chair; his eyes had brightened considerably at the revelation. He was preparing to bombard the poor Asgaridan with a plethora of questions, but halted when Fury gave an annoyed huff.

Both men looked over at the irritated director, "I assure you that Shield has not done anything to him."

Thor noted his sincerity, but caught the sudden stiffening of his fellow team mates. Frowning he began to address his colleges, "I don't under…"

Jack couldn't hold it in any longer. Knowing that the answer to all of his questions was standing right in front of him was too much. Practically shouting the age old question he gripped Thor's arm and let loose. "What is my name…Who am I?!"

At first there was no reaction from the Thor. The silence drug on the tiniest bit of fear crept into Jacks mind. Then all at once the god swiveled around to look at him. With eyes bulged, his hammer slipped from his grasp hitting the floor with a boom.

"Clearly you must be joking." He whispered.

When Jack did not confirm-or even wittingly deny-Thor about lost his mind. With large hands he gripped the boy's slender shoulders and gave him a light shake. "Please, tell me you are lying. You couldn't have possibly forgotten something like this."

"Easy there point break." Stark finally spoke up before the poor kid was shook apart. "Don't want to go messing the kid up more than he already is."

"How did this happen?" Thor demanded, all kindness gone from his demeanor.

Banner swallowed thickly, now he had an angry god to contend with on top of everything else. "This is not my day." He mumbled into his hands.

Natasha glanced at Banner, "Thor it was an accident."

Banner shot her a thankful look as Thor turned his attention towards her. "Look, we are not fully aware of what happened to him. We only have speculations, but I can assure you that the kid will be fine."

"He is no mere child." Thor informed.

"Right he is a really old kid, with the ability to give colds." Stark quipped, earning him a heated glare from Thor and Jack.

Thor looked at Jack then to Stark "You would do well not disrespect him Son of Stark. This is Jokul Frosti, God of Winter, son of Kari deity of the winds."

"Are you telling me that I have to contend with more of your people here on Earth?" Fury was beyond irritated at the revelation of who the boy was.

Thor shook his head, "Frosti is not of Asgard."

"Then where?"

"Wait I think I know this one." Steve chimed in happily. Skeptical looks rewarded his enthusiasm but he pushed on regardless. "When I was a kid I remember reading something about him. Someone named Ymir was defeated by the war god Odin and turned into the Earth. Before he perished he had three kids who took to living on earth: Logi, Oegir, and Kari. Kari had two sons, Frosti and Jokul."

Natasha smirked, "This coming from the man whose is a monotheist"

"I read it as if it was fictional not fact." Steve defended.

"I believed I heard something similar, but my information also claimed these beings lived as Frost Giants, from Jotunheim."

"I do not know where you two are getting your information but you are wrong." Thor chuckled. "First off, know that Ymir was around long before even my father was born. He and his children are Gods. Most everyone in the nine realms knows of and worships them. It is to them that we prey for good fortune, fertility, wisdom, and guidance in battle."

This got everyone's attention. "Secondly, my father never created your Earth from Ymir's body. That is a rather embarrassing folklore your ancestors fabricate when my Father was battling against the Jotuun here on your planet. My mother told us of how he was yelling some rather distasteful things during battle, things that could have easily been misinterpreted."

He paused to allow the others to absorb what he said whilst reflecting himself. Shaking his head of the memory he resumed talking. "Now, you were correct in saying that Ymir had three children; you were also correct in their names. However your information on Kari having two kids was slightly misconstrued, there was just the one."

Thor stole a glance at Jack; said spirit flashed him an uncertain grin but said nothing.

"I thought all of the beings in the outer worlds had a main name and then the name of their sire." Banner asked genuinely curious.

"Normally that is the case, but descendants of Ymir are different. Ymir's name- and all the surnames that indicate him- means that of storm. His three children were named according to the violent untamed element they represented. Kari of Wind, Hler of Water, and Logi of Fire." When Kari sired a son he followed in their tradition of naming him for what he embodied, and that was the winter inclemency's. Jokul had the strange cold beauty of both ice and frost, earning him his rightful name."

Clint hummed for a moment, "So does that mean he is older than you?"

Thor's eye twinkled brightly, his smile showed how proud he was to answer the question. "Actually, we were born the same year! When word reached my father of the Winter God's birth he was ecstatic, for I was to be birthed that same year. Mother claimed it was a blessing for Agrarians and Gods are not birthed often, and for them to be so close together was unimaginable."

"So that is how you know each other?" Steve mused.

"Well, my father did love to frequent earth in the past. He had always paid his respects to the god of wind whilst there. When I was old enough to travel across the rainbow road I went with him. Needless to say that was the first time I meet Jokul. Even thought he was my god, we formed a rather unusual friendship."

Natasha looked to the kid and then back to Thor, "Wait, I do not understand. How can you two possible be born the same year, you look nowhere near the same age?"

"God's do not age the same way that we do. Even after 400 years he looks exactly like I remember him, where as I have change a bit."

Clint rubbed his temples in attempt to calculate the figures in his mind. "Alright this has been bugging me, how old are you?"

"I'm 3,319." Thor stated like it was normal.

Clint's eyes narrowed and shot a questioning look towards Banner and Stark. "Didn't you tell us the Jokul's age was 300?"

"300? How did you ever come up with that number?" Thor chuckled lightly.

"We only repeated what Frostbite himself said, how am I supposed to know his actual age? It' not like I looked up his birth certificate to find out." Stark answered.

Banner snickered and looked back at the Hawk, Clint smiled. "You tried didn't you?"

Stark pulled out his phone and started tapping the screen. A pout gracing his lips, "We looked up every bit of information the kid gave us. I was given multiple results with possible names and origins for this kid, but nothing clearly stated his age."

"Wait, so you two had a list of possible names as to who he really is, but you didn't say anything?" Natasha inquired.

"Like Stark said, there were a number of names hanging around the topic 'Winter Spirit'. Even though Tony wanted to throw all the names at the kid in hopes he would recognize one, I felt it would only make things worse. Judging by his recovery rate he would start to remember important things on his own." Banner informed her.

"Even so…why do you think you are only 300 if Thor here claims you are easily eleven times that?" Natasha looked to Jack.

Jack shrugged and stuffed his hands back into his hoodie pocket, "Don't know, I just do."

Thor placed a reassuring hand on the boys shoulder, but then immediately removed it. Bowing to one knee he placed an arm over his bent leg, "Do not worry Jokul Frosti. I will help you regain your memories. I just pray that you see fit to give forgiveness and not your wrath. I have not been here for you, and even now it would seem that my friends here have caused you harm. They mean well, and I assure you that they too wish to help set things right. "

Jack looked into Thor's eyes and busted out laughing. The way he went from acting like an old friend to addressing him like a higher up was just too weird. "Chill out, I already forgave them and you a while ago. And don't talks to me like that; just speak like you were earlier. You said we were friends right?"

"Hahaha! You truly have not changed my old friend; even now you brush off the rules of engagement."

"Ah what can I say, I'm not very good with rules." Jack smirked.

"A God who acts like a kid and an Alien who is more like a God…I think our universe just got a little stranger." Natasha huffed whilst shaking her head.

Immediately her comment was rewarded with an ordinary snowball to the face. Clint had to forcibly stifle a chuckle and turn away from the fuming redhead. Steve looked from his team mate to the only possible culprit; who at this moment acted like he was completely innocent.

"What?"

"Why did you do that?" Natasha responded with a bit of strain in her voice.

"I don't know what you are talking about." Jack smirked and looked away.

Natasha stood up and prepared to lung over the table to where the smirking Winter Spirit floated. Fury; who was thoroughly fed up with being ignored, walked in between the possible danger zone.

"If you would mind I would prefer it if you do not start another uproar on my ship." Fury chastised.

Natasha begrudgingly sat back down but Jack just landed and started ambling about the room. Fury shot a glare to the spirit, but Thor quickly stood in his path.

"Can I help you?" the director asked in irritation.

"I know not of your reasons for being irritated with Jokul, but I assure you that he means you no harm." Thor's words held both sincerity and understanding.

"You may have faith and trust in this being Thor but that is not enough for me to warrant his release. After the incident with your brother, your judgment on a person character are not the most reliable."

Said god twitched in irritation but set aside the jab, "Tell me what he has done to warrant such distrust."

Thor and Fury started each other down, but neither one was willing to back off.

"If you have forgotten, it is our job to monitor everything with the power and/or potential to threaten our existence."

"He has been around earth watching over it for much longer than you have, he cares for this planet greatly."

"Even if he is as good as you say he is, his current mental status makes him unpredictable and dangerous. Until I know more about what is going on I cannot risk having him run loose."

"What more do you want from me?" Jack suddenly spoke from behind Thor. Both men turned to meet Jack's piercing blue gaze. "I don't know what else there is to tell that Thor has not or cannot tell you."

"Alright then, who were you fighting in Germany?" Fury asked bluntly.

Jack opened his mouth to speak and then closed it, clearly he could not answer. Fury then turned to Thor, "Well, can you tell me who he was fighting?"

Thor never took his eyes off his God, "No. I know not of who he was engaged in combat with. I am ashamed to say that it has been some 400 years since we have last encountered each other."

"Why?"

"400 years ago was the last time I had visited earth. It wasn't 68 years after that Kari and Frosti had seemingly vanished. No one knew seemed to know what happened to either one of them. Even Logi and Hler were silent as to what had happened to their brother and nephew."

"Then it seems we have more questions than answers." Fury turned to address the rest of the team. "Starting immediately I am doubling security and surveillance. With no information as to who this second source is we are at a disadvantage."

"What worse is it seems that this second source seems to have little to no regard for innocent bystanders. In fact if the information we gathered from the citizens in Frankfurt is anything to go by, then I am willing to bet that this mystery enemy is willing to use any means to get what it wants." Clint pointed out.

"And what they want just happens to be in our custody." Stark smirked, "Looks like we might have to set out our nice silverware."

"What does silverware have to do with anything?" Jack looked completely confused.

"He means that company is coming. If you and this enemy are on bad terms, then there is a good chance that it could be coming here to get at you." Bruce supplied.

"I will not let that happen." Thor interjected.

"I actually think the kid is quite capable without you point break, he did after all take on this enemy by himself for five days."

"Regardless, now that I know that Jokul is still here and in the midst of conflict no less, It is my duty to assist him in his struggle."

"I still don't get what silverware has to do with anything." Jack mumbled. Steve chuckled.

"What's so funny?"

"I was just thinking how great it is that I'm not the one confused by your guy's reference."

Alright guys a couple of things before I let you go.

One: If you guys have any questions I will answer them. That is as long as it doesn't give away anything in this plot of the story.

Two: I know I twisted a bit of Norse mythology, but so did Marvel. So it was also a must for this story.

Three: * this in the story was because I wanted to say. I could not find anywhere where it states how old Thor really was. The closest I came was: according to the comics of Thor the clearest thing I could discern is that he is between 2,000 and 4,000. So I had to gues-ta-mate and run with it.

QUESTION: So do you guys think that the Avengers and the Guardians have a misunderstanding over Jack or should they be open minded to one another. In other words will a scrap ensue or will there be diplomacy? Depending on your answer will depend on how things will work out in the story, so please choose carefully. I will go with the most popular response. I can even post an alternate story later for those who got out voted. Just let me know either by PM or review. THANKS!

Alright that is all for now. Happy Holidays everyone!
