Disclaimer: Again… not mine… all credit to the madma-err… genius who created Maria-Holic. Which is not me, in case you haven't figured that out yet.
Chapter 6
Dear Mother in Heaven… please tell me what this situation is.
I'm sitting up in bed, a bed that is not my own. Or it could be mine, if the world had flipped while I slept.
A blanket's draped over me, one that I am fairly certain was not over me when I went to sleep while laying down in Mariya's bed, though I could have just pulled it up in my sleep.
My eyes widen as I backtrack, remembering the very important, very embarrassing fact that I had climbed into Mariya's bed and… the warmth… the smell…
I shake my head quickly, as if I could throw the traitor thoughts out of my head that way. I look around the sun-filled room, searching for my roommate. The bed on the other side of the room, my bed, sits there so quietly, empty. My eyes fall to the ground where a blanket lay in a wrinkled lump, a corner of a white pillow peeking out from underneath the waves of brown. The makeshift bed, at least I assume that's what it is, is abandoned, as is the rest of the room.
I stare at the small mound on the floor, words flying around my mind, trying to piece themselves together to create a puzzle that makes sense, an explanation as to why the pillow and blanket are there and why my bed looks untouched. One idea pops up, but I push it away, certain that it can't be the right one. It keeps coming back, however: a handful of impossible words flitting in the back of my throat, tickling my vocal chords in an effort to let me release them. I force them back down and quickly lock them up in the very back of my mind.
I gently pluck the blanket off of me, as carefully as if it will break at my very touch. Swinging my legs over the edge of the bed, I realize that I'm still wearing my clothes from yesterday. I groan and stand up. After stepping over to my side of the room, I throw on another change of clothes and gather up my books in preparation for school, which has somehow managed to make its way to the front of my mind.
I'm just starting to reach for the doorknob when it turns on its own, the door swinging in towards me. I'm left face-to-face with Mariya and Matsurika or at least face-to-forehead with Matsurika and face-to-shoulder with Mariya.
"You missed breakfast," Mariya snorts. Same old same old. "Though that might be a good thing, considering your reputation as a pig."
Huh. That wasn't quite so bad as usual. I think. Or that could just be me. On the bright side, he's not acting as awkward as I feel.
"Ha!" I laugh, folding my arms over my chest and smirking. "Unbeknownst to you, Mariya-mon, it's all a part of my plan to… to… to get revenge on you!"
"By you not eating breakfast, you'll get revenge on me?"
"Yes!"
"Revenge for what, exactly?"
"F-For…" I stutter as his eyes bore into me, turning my mind into complete nonsense. "For Potato the friendly chomper!"
"…What."
"I-I mean…" I squeak, the heat rushing to my face. "For always insulting me, of course!"
"Oh?" His eyelids droop to half-lidded as his voice lowers. "You mean to say that you're going to try to fight against me?"
"Yes?" I gulp as he raises a hand, reaching it out towards me.
I'm about ready to step away when Matsurika clears her throat, her gaze fixed on some distant world that no one else can see. Mariya looks at her. Something enlightenment? Annoyance? Fear? flashes across his face, but is quickly replaced by his usual glare. His hand drops.
"I'd like to see you try," he growls as he steps around me. I expect his arm to brush up against my shoulder how could it not, given what little space we have in this entryway but it never does. I marvel at this briefly, but my mouth opens itself up, cutting off my thoughts.
"You better be looking forward to it," I challenge, turning to smirk at him. "Or should I say, looking out for it!"
When he doesn't respond, doesn't even try to look at me, I frown, and push past Matsurika and into the hallway.
"Heyyyyyyy, Kanako-chan," Sachi leans forward on my desk, holding her head in her hands, a wide smile sweeping across her face. "Do you like goukons?"
"Goukons?" I blink. "I-I've never… never really…"
"You're trying to get Kanako to go to your goukon, Sachi-san?" Yuzulu asks, walking over to us.
"I told my friend that I had very funny friend at school that I would bring," Sachi states, puffing out her cheeks. "So I will!"
My skin prickles. "A… a goukon… w-will there be… boys?"
Sachi nods happily. "Of course! One of my friends outside of school invited me; she said we needed a few more people, so I've already invited Yuzulu-chan and Nanami-chan. So…?" she looks up at me, her big blue eyes sparkling.
I have to say no. No. No-no-no-no-no-no-
"When is it?" The words come tumbling out of my traitorous mouth. I guess I can't deny such a cute girl…
Sachi grins. "Today, obviously. After school."
"Wait…" Hope glimmers in my chest. "Isn't it forbidden for students living in the dorms to leave the campus?" Suddenly that stupid rule Mariya told me about doesn't seem so bad…
But Sachi merely cocks her head to the side in confusion. "Not really… you just need to tell the teachers that you're going to study at a friend's house and you'll be fine."
I freeze. "No… no…"
"Yeah, you… can…" Sachi trails off, her brow furrowing.
"Why?" Yuzulu asks. "Did someone tell you otherwise?"
I open my mouth to tell them the truth, but then the image of an angry Mariya pops up just behind my eyeballs. "No," I say instead. "I guess I just misunderstood something." I offer them a weak smile.
Sachi's about to add something when a voice interrupts from behind us.
"Miyamae-san?" We all turn to see one of the an attractive young teacher standing there, her thick brown hair pulled back into a braid. "If you don't mind, could you please come to the teacher's office after school?" Seeing the look on my face, she quickly adds, "Oh, don't worry! You're not in trouble or anything! I just have something to discuss with you."
My hearts starts pounding in ears as my old habits come racing back to me.
She saw how much I've been pushed and couldn't help feeling sorry for me; she started to watch me, just see if there was something she could do to help, and then she couldn't help but fall in love with my determination and now she wants to confess her undying love for me!
I give her my brightest and best smile. "Of course! I'll see you then!"
MERRY VALENTINE'S DAY! HE HE HE!
This is my Valentine's Day present to you guys! ^-^ AND IT'S EARLY! ISN'T THAT A MIRACLE?!
...of course... I should update anyways and not just as a present for holidays, but... *cough cough* yeah...
School has been TORTURE lately! seriously! I have to go write an essay, write three kennings(though that's not so bad), do my math homework, do my notebook(which is now late, actually. ;-;), and the end of the trimester is coming up so there's like gonna be a TON of tests. UGH! And I also have several readings I have to do, though again, not so bad... but there's probably more that I've forgotten that I have to do... *sighhhh*
Fun Fact: Turns out that my history class is actually on college level. Seriously. My history teacher also teaches several college classes, and he says that my class's work is harder than their work and that they would all fail if they had to do our level of schoolwork.
WUT. DEH. HEK!?
Welp... anyways... aside from my ranting...
MERRY VALENTINE'S DAY! SOMEONE ACTUALLY GAVE ME CHOCOLATE! O.O
Forget updating, there's the real miracle!
XD
HAVE FUN!
