Many apologies for how sporadic my updates are! Hopefully this chapter has been worth the wait – and please, leave me a review letting me know if you think I should continue on from here!
Soft knocking roused the sleeping quarterback, but only just. Thinly veiled light pierced the gloom of her bedroom as Bolin slipped in and closed the door, padded across the room, and climbed into bed beside her, lying on top of the covers.
Instead of speaking, she rolls over and pulls the blankets above her head as if he was non-existent.
Sighing and unsure of what to do, he leans back against her headboard.
Though his friend has always had trouble expressing herself, never before had she gone to this extent – locking herself in her room, refusing to talk to anyone, let alone going to school. It'd been just over a week since the Fire Ferrets had lost the championship to the Mongoose Lizards, and just as long since Korra had seen fit to speak to anyone.
"Hey…" Bolin hesitates, leaning over his friend in an attempt to catch a glimpse of her face. "Korra – things can't go on like this…"
A pouty but determined look glazes over his face as he sets his resolve.
"You have to come back to school, even if you don't speak to anyone or play football. Come on, please get up… It's difficult – not seeing your face in the halls. Not seeing your blushing face peeking out from behind your locker door when I embarrass you… I mean, who's going to help me get back at Mako when he's mean?"
In his pocket, Bolin feels his phone vibrate. Reaching in he decides to check it, being that Korra hadn't moved since he had nudged her.
"Any luck? – Asami"
Little did the sulking football star know – her girlfriend of only a few weeks was ready to work through their problem and was standing just outside of her bedroom.
"Not quite, I'm in now. Making contact, 'Earth to Korra'; are you ready? – Bo"
"Go away," a muffled demand makes its way from beneath the heavy blue black comforter.
Without replying, Bolin stands and walks out the door – just as Asami walks in and proceeds to climb into the bed beside the agitated quarterback. Once assuring that the fair skinned girl is in place beside his fuming friend, he pulls the door shut with a snick as it latches.
"I thought I said I told you to go away, Bolin" Korra mumbles a bit louder, her head sliding out from beneath the comforter as she sits up. Though she is stopped in her tracks as she realizes who is really beside her, sharing her space.
"Hi," Asami whispers, her mouth going dry as she attempts to draw up the strength she felt when first walking into this house.
--
"Any particular reason you needed to go in too?" Mako glares at his younger brother who had just slipped back into the Sato Mobile.
"I had to see she was really as bad off as her Mom said" He replies, nonplussed by Mako's snide comments. "It was," he smiles.
"That doesn't seem like something to be happy about" Mako again grumbles as he starts the engine. "Come on, let's get out of here."
"Oh, I know! Let's go for milkshakes!"
--
"Asami, I –" Korra begins, trying to find the words to say but instead being cut off by her lover's swift, chaste kiss.
Surprised at first the short girl stiffens – before melting and reaching out to embrace Asami further deepening the kiss and releasing all the pent up emotion she had been feeling since the fateful game she felt would end her high school career.
The two continue on, moving closer together and grasping at one another as if their lives depended on it until finally Korra breaks away to fully catch her breath, her chest heaving.
"Asami – I haven't showered in a week," she blushes. "I'm not sure how close you want to get to me… Haven't really been brushing my teeth either."
The heiress laughs and snuggles in closer. "If I were worried about you smelling or your breath I would have waited for you to come back to school, silly. I couldn't stand to be away from you any longer… It may sound crazy, but being apart from you… was more difficult than you would imagine."
Korra breathes a sigh of relief, moving in to rest her head on Asami's shoulder.
--
Beep-BeepThe sound of a honking Sato-mobile rouses the again slumbering quarterback, pulling her out of her reverie.
"Huh, what's going on?" She mumbles to herself, barely lifting her head from the dark blue pillow. Hearing no more unusual sounds, she rolls over, resuming her usual position of the blanket over her head.
Gently pushing the bedroom door open, Asami slips in. "You still aren't up yet? Come on, Sleepy head" she whispers with a chuckle, gently pulling Korra out of bed.
With ease the taller girl urges her charge toward the bathroom, plops Korra down upon the closed toilet seat, and sets about brushing the knots out of her once silken hair now turned rat's nest.
Korra sits still under all of Asami's ministrations – taking comfort in the gentle loving caresses lavished upon her by the heiress.
Starting the shower, Asami urges Korra in before leaving and shutting the door.
She's never been like this that I know of.
Bolin says she's never been this way; even after she broke up with Mako. Could this really be my fault entirely?
The quiet creak of floorboards draw Asami out of her reverie as she looks up to gaze upon her lover.
"Oh, Asami," Korra begins, rubbing a hand down her face as if embarrassed.
She moves forward, her limber muscles rippling in a supple fashion as she covers the expanse of the living room. With great care she enfolds the taller girl into a tight embrace, and on tip toes – presses her lips to the ones just out of her reach.
Not really sure what's going on at the very end here, though there seems to be a lot of pent-up emotions between the pair. Stay tuned for more :D
