Eddie and Jill left early the next morning, headed for Montreal. From there, they'd catch a flight out to France to hide from the Guardians. I pray that they make it there safely.
"Adrian, what about us?" I asked. I was scared. What if someone found us here. Would they? Could they?
Adrian got up from where he was sitting and set down his paint brush. He crossed the room in a few strides and pulled me into his arms. He kissed my hair.
"Love, don't be scared. I'm here for you," he coaxed. He cradled me in his arms for what seemed like only a few minutes before asking about Marcus. "Have you decided if you wanted to pursue breaking your tattoo?"
We both knew what that meant. If I broke my tattoo, no matter what the Alchemists did if they found me, I'd never be under their control again. Not that I don't feel confidant about my witch blood protecting me. But it's always good to have a backup plan.
"Last I heard from Marcus, he was headed to Maine to rescue an Alchemist…" I thought. But that was a few weeks ago. Surely he'd headed back to Palm Springs by now.
"Maybe you should try to get in touch with him again. Don't you have more ink that he needs to pick up?"
I nodded. I'd been making more ink for Marcus in my spare time. I'd always shipped it out to Inez's address just to be on the safe side. And used my fake name. She had a way of passing it on to him and not questioning me about it but I had a feeling that she knew what it was. She was a powerful witch after all.
After more discussion, I decided to call Marcus. Luckily, he was in upstate New York and could make it here in a few days. We set up a meeting for Thursday.
It was Thursday. Marcus would be here at our meeting spot in just a few minutes. I was nervous. Heck, I was scared. What if it didn't really work? Would it matter?
I peeked out of the window of the hotel. It was a large five story hotel with spacious rooms and a luxurious spa. I kind of wanted to relax there for the whole day but I was too antsy to be able to calm myself. Maybe once all of this was over I could take a spa day.
A swift knock at the door had me nearly jumping a foot into the air. Adrian just looked at me with an amused expression.
"It's just Marcus, and he's alone," said Adrian.
Of course Adrian would know. Spirit must have alerted him. I went to the door and peeked out the peep hole just incase. To my relief, Adrian was right. It was Marcus.
I opened the door and ushered him in.
