TRIS
I look at Zeke and Four. To be honest, if there was any tension in the room, I don't feel it.
"Want some crepe?" I ask Zeke. This makes them fall out of whatever trance they were in and pay attention to me.
"Oh, no. I was just going to give this back to Four" He passes a box to Four which causes his brow to rise but one small peek inside, he quickly closed it again and coughed. "Thanks, Zeke" Four tells him and rushes to the bedroom to hide the box. I didn't want to care about whatever's in there but it did got me curious. Hmm, I'll wait for a couple of hours and I'll totally be forgetting that box.
Zeke and I stand in the kitchen in silence and I just kept on eating. Who knew Four could cook this great.
"So, ready for tonight?" He asks me. Before I can answer, Four walks back in the kitchen.
"What's tonight?" Four asks Zeke, reaching for a strawberry.
"The Pedrad ball?" Zeke and I say, questioningly. It's impossible that no one told Four about this.
"Right." He says, apparently just remembering it now. He looks at Zeke and I, "You going together?" he asks. I don't think he needed to know the answer to that but Zeke answered still. "Yeah. I asked her last night." Four pretends to not know about what happened and looked curiously at Zeke. Zeke stares back as if saying, I'll tell you later and Four just nods.
"Who you going with?" I ask. Both Zeke and Four look at me as if that question was a no-no. Four shrugs. "I don't know. I'll ask Cara." Zeke nods.
"I have to go. A lot of things to do for tonight. Don't forget to go, Four" Zeke says as he waves us goodbye. "I won't" Four says before Zeke is out of the door. I look at Four when he enters the kitchen again. He's putting the dishes in the sink and refuses to catch my eye. I don't even know if I said anything but I just kind of ignore it.
"So, what was in the letter?" I ask not getting comfortable with the silence.
"A scholarship in Russia." he tells me, after washing the dishes. I look at him curiously, "So, you're going?" I ask him. He shrugs. "I'm not even sure I got in" he answers. I sigh. He wipes his hands and then reach for another strawberry. My phone rings in my pocket and I quickly reach out for it. After seeing it was from Caleb, I quickly jump of my chair and drink the remaining juice from my glass.
"So I have to go" I tell him. He just nods. "Thanks for breakfast, Four" I say, quickly walking out of the house. Before I leave, I hear him say, "Don't trip" and I smile.
"Whose jacket is that?" Caleb asks once I enter the house again. I look down and realize that I was still wearing Four's jacket.
"Fours" He raises a brow at me and I roll my eyes and he continues to sip his coffee. I run towards my room after.
The sun was near the horizon when I looked up from the book. Wow, I really am so unproductive when I'm at home. Someone was knocking on my door, rather forcefully.
"You're going to destroy my door" I say opening the door. I wasn't even shocked when Christina walked in.
"You're not yet dressed?" she asks.
"There's still about an hour and a half, Christina" I tell her.
"I know, and that isn't even enough time." she tells me making me roll my eyes. Of course.
"I already took a shower" I told her to reassure her, somehow. "But there's still make-up and hair. What are you even going to wear?" I shrug and she sighs in defeat. I cross my arms and look at her breathe in and gather her composure. "Okay. Let's do this" she says and suddenly opens my closet.
"Stop tugging on your dress, Tris. You look fine" Christina tells me, slapping my hand off my dress. I sigh.
"If you picked a longer dress, I wouldn't be tugging" I whisper to her and she just smiles. Suddenly, Zeke comes back to us holding three glasses of what I think is wine. Christina leaves us be as she sees Will walking in from the balcony after taking a call.
"It seems we're a bit early" I tell him pointing to the almost empty ballroom.
"Not really. People just really love grand entrances" he tells me. We go towards a table to sit down but then I see Cara waving at us. I wave back. Suddenly, Four materializes beside her and put his arm over her waist. She didn't seem to mind. If my memory served right, Cara and Four knew each other since they were babies. The first time I saw Cara was when Four's mom died, that's also the first time we met Will. Suddenly, Mommy and Daddy Pedrad are making their way to the centre of the stage. I know what they were going to say; everybody knew what they were going to say. It was the same every year. Once the speech was over we sit down and watch as the waiters pass around food.
ZEKE
Gosh, I can hear my heart still beating even after two and a half hours. I can't even believe I'm with Tris right now.
"You alright?" She says. I snap out of my trance and smile at her. "Yeah, of course" She just smiles and continues eating her salad. I look up at her and saw that some cream was on the side of her lip. I quickly wipe it and she mutters a silent thank you. Not knowing if my peripheral vision was failing me, I look over at Four who was looking at us and just instinctively raises a glass. I nod at him and he turns back to Cara.
Once the dance floor was open, a lot of people already rushed to the centre wanting nothing more than to strut their stuff or dance with their particular other. I look at Tris and she was swaying with the music. I gather all my courage and stand up, offer my hand to her and ask her to dance. She puts her hand on mine and we quickly walk towards the dance floor.
I put one hand on her waist and the other is holding her other hand. We sway to the music and we stay silent. This was perfect. No words can explain what I feel right now as I'm dancing with Tris. She starts humming the tune of the song and I hold closer. She doesn't seem to mind.
"You okay?" I ask her. She nodds, "Never better" I smile and continue dancing her around the floor, sometimes spinning her, earning a laugh here and there. Gosh, that laugh. I might not get used to it.
"You're beautiful, you know" I say. She shrugs and says, "I know" then winks at me. I roll my eyes which makes her laugh.
"Thanks" she says then adds, "It's nice to hear it once or twice." She tells me. I smile at her and whisper, "Would you like to hear it everyday?" She narrows her eyes at me out of curiosity and asks, "Is this a proposal?"
I sheepishly smile and shake my head, "Not necessarily"
"But I would like to ask you if you would want to spend part of your life with me?" She raise her brow, not understanding. "As a girlfriend, maybe?" She stops dancing and I suddenly feel I made the wrong decision.
"You can think about it. I'm not asking for an answer too soon." I tell her.
"No, uhm" she stops, "I was just taken aback" She told me. Suddenly, I felt foolish.
"I'm sorry" I told her. "I shouldn't have asked too soon. I mean, we barely even know each other, somewhat but I really want to spend more time with you and -" I was cut of with her laughing.
"Zeke, I would love too" I didn't even know if I heard it right.
"Do I just have a girlfriend?" I ask. She nods and then I felt my heart skip a beat. Without even thinking about it, I lean in for a kiss.
A/N
So, how's life?
Sorry for not updating for like months. School has been totally hectic. But since I just graduated, YAY, and I have all the time in my hands, I can update, hopefully faster this time.
So, earlier this week, I found my English project given to us during Sophomore year. We were to write a short story so yeah I read it again and the plot was good, I just didn't like the way I wrote that. Anyhow, I thought of expanding it and decided to write a novel-ish story with that plot. I thought of just writing the original story (just longer) and posting it in Wattpad or FictionPress but then, I told myself that it's easier to write it as a fanfic. Yeah, but I couldn't decide whether it be Divergent fanfic or Les Mis.
Eventually, I decided to write a Divergent fic since the character I originally wrote is more closely related to Tris so why not.
I'm still not sure if I'm going to post it but if you guys want me to post it then maybe I will. Maybe sometime in May will do.
So the summary is this (somehow):
"I couldn't look her straight in the eye and not see him, not see the pain I caused her and her family. I didn't mean for it to happen, really. I wanted it to be an accident, but it wasn't and it's all my fault. I killed him. I could've saved him but I didn't. I heard him scream for 'help'. I was the only one there but I didn't help him, instead I let the house crash down on him"
So yeah, that's it. I'm still working on it though and that might not be the summary I use but anyhow, if you like me to post it then I will and there's no spoiler in that summary, by the way.
Anyways, follow, favourite, review :)
