Chapter 7: Eddie's Plummet
"Oh, of course." Nathan said sarcastically. "I'm happy to be your baby.
"Yeah." Haley nodded.
"It'll be okay." Nathan rubbed her back. "I'm fine. Everything is going to be okay."
"I know." she nodded. "I's just everything its happening all at once. It's just difficult to handle."
Matt came down the stairs after a restless night. He stopped short when he saw Eddie sitting at the kitchen table.
"Hi." Eddie said. "I made coffee. French Vanilla, you're favorite." He was trying to smooth things over with him.
Matt rolled his eyes. "No"
"No what? I know its your favorite. Don't tell me it isn't."
Matt was very pissed right now and his anger level seemed to be growing by the second. "No, you're right; it is my favorite. I just cannot stand to see your face anymore."
"I get that and—"
"No." Matt shouted. "You don't get. You never have. The only reason you came here was to get my sister back. And when that didn't happen, you blew up. You beat up her boyfriend. He's a minor. You could go to jail."
"Yeah, right." He rolled his eyes. He knew that would never happen.
"Haley will never go out with you again. Not after what you did. Get over her."
"It's not that easy and you know it."
"Matt?" Haley asked as she entered the house. "Can I talk to you?"
Matt nodded, "Yeah, sure." He eyed Eddie as he left the kitchen. "Listen, I know-"
"I don't want him, here. Kindly ask him to leave. I'm gonna go get ready for school."
Haley quickly got ready and rushed out the door. She just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. She smiled when she saw Nathan right outside waiting for her.
"Haley wants you to leave." Matt said. "Come on. It's the least you can do."
"Have you ever felt a true connection with another person?" Eddie asked. He had a true sincerity to his voice. "The kind of connection where you know you feel in your heart of hearts that she's the one. Have you?"
"Matt shook his head. He sighed. "Listen, I get it. You have extremely strong feelings for my sister. But the thing is she doesn't feel the same way and that is the most important thing.
"I'm staying." Eddie was not moving. He was gonna stand his ground. Matt was getting mine and more fed up. He was gonna have to have a different approach. "If you love her like you say you do, don't you want her to be happy?"
"Yes, but—"
"Then leave. Neither of us want you here."
"I'm not leaving." he wasn't going anywhere, not until he got what he came for.
Once school was let out, Haley went straight home. She was hoping and praying that Eddie was not there.
"Hi sweetness."
Haley's body immediately tensed up. Her face cringed and she knew she's regret it.
"I thought you were gone."
Eddie smirked. "I'm not leaving without my prize."
Haley's defense immediately went up. "Where's Matt?"
"Out back."
"Okay." Haley rushed into the kitchen to get away from him.
"You know, way back when, you actually liked me back." Eddie followed her. "What happened?"
"You left!" Have I not made that abundantly clear?" She sighed. "You left, never called, and I was to assume that we were over. Now I am asking you as a friend to please leave."
"And why should I?"
"It doesn't matter how long you stay or the things you say to make me want you back, nothing, absolutely nothing will work. I am happy in a really good relationship with Nathan. We love each other and nothing else matters."
Eddie crept closer to her, wanting to be near her, to think her in. "But we love each other."
"No we don't." Haley shook her hear. He was getting closer and she was backed against the corner of the cabinets. She had no where to go. "It's not love. It never was. It was just crushes. And now, you have this insane obsession with me and its scaring me." She about to cry.
"Haley." He spoke softly and went to caress her face when Matt came into the kitchen. "Dude! I'm working here."
"Working on what?" Scaring my sister? Get away from her. Haley, why don't you go up to your room?"
"Got it." Haley rushed past Eddie and ran up to her room. She picked up her phone. "Nathan?"
"Yeah? What's going on?"
"Eddie cornered me. And it—he just freaked me out." She began pacing the length of the room.
"Are you okay? Is there anything I can do?" He was very concerned.
"I think you should press charges. I mean he beat you. And I really don't think he's gonna stop. I love you. And you need to do this."
"Okay. I'll do it."
"What now?" Matt heard a knock. His eyebrows raised when he saw the police. "Officers?"
"Are you Eddie Stevens?"
Matt looked over at Eddie. "No. he's over there. Come on in."
The officers came in and spotted Eddie a couple feet away. "Eddie Sevens?"
Eddie hesitated but nodded. "Yeah. Can I help you?"
"You're under arrest." one officer said cuffing Eddie.
"What for?" he asked angrily. He then caught a glimpse of Haley who was smiling.
"For the assault of Nathan Scott. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney-"
Matt closed the door and looked up at his sister. "Oh my god. What just happened?"
Haley shrugged. "I asked Nathan and told him to press charges. This way, Eddie knows he can't get away with hitting someone.
Matt nodded. "Now that he's gone. I think the next thing we have to do is get a restraining order."
"Why?"
"So you can have your freedom and he has an actual reason to leave. Hales, he's not going anywhere. If he physically isn't allowed to be near you, he'll have to go."
Haley nodded and smiled. "Sounds like a plan."
