6th Chapter - The Game
"It's pretty easy," he appeased her, while he was combing through her messy hair, she herself positioned in his lap. "I'll ask you a question and you have to answer truthfully. Therefore, you are allowed to ask me every question that comes to your mind and I have to answer it truthfully."
She shifted in his lap to be able to look into his eyes, making sure that he wasn't pulling a trick on her. But his look told her that he was indeed serious.
"And if you lie and I realize it – or if I should lie and you should realize it – you, according to the first possibility, have to do whatever I request from you. If our positions should be switched, it's up to you to decide what I have to do. Does this sound fair to you?"
Nodding in approval, she promptly got up from her position in his lap. The sudden movement startled him, since she seemed to enjoy him combing her hair; even though it wasn't that messy anymore. It was a wonder to him why she even allowed him to touch her at all. Usually, she would freeze like a statue, every time he would cause sparks to fly around him, due to her immense fear of fire. But she naturally climbed onto the sofa and sat down on the back of it, directly behind Zelman.
Wondering what she was up to, he turned his head around to look at the girl, but she snatched the brush out of his hand, turned his head back to its original position, took the beanie off his head and started to comb his hair.
He grunted, rather displeased with the turn of events, but let it go after she had nudged his side with her knee, requesting him to start with a question. Who knew if he would get an opportunity like this where she was willing to talk to him?
"Okay, let's start with something easy," He grumbled and looked at her out of the corners of his eyes, waiting for an answer, "Your name, perhaps?"
But despite his hopes to finally get some information out of her – and his rather nice way of asking, may I add: None came.
"Well, there are two ways I could interpret your behavior. Either the question is too difficult for you to answer, what I doubt since you don't seem to suffer from amnesia. Or the question is too simple, but if that had been the case, you could have answered immediately."
He fully turned around, his blood-red eyes looked directly into her ice-blue ones and he raised an eyebrow expectantly, but she still didn't respond. The only sign that she was listening to him was her raised eyebrow in return, silently questioning him what his problem was.
"So you don't know your name?" He concluded, still looking into her eyes. It seemed impossible to move away, every time he locked eyes with her. Therefore his eyes stayed locked with hers, despite his growing anger.
This time she shook her head in denial, which didn't help to enlighten the Black Blood in front of her. She stopped combing his hair in the meantime, to center all her attention on him only, showing him that she was serious with him.
How he was able to control his frustration with her, who knew. But he continued his tries to decipher her actions. "Okay, you know your name… But you don't want to tell me?"
And again she shook her head.
"If there's nothing that would hinder you, why don't you tell me?"
Anger was finally getting to him, and she could feel his body heat increase. He was internally already prepared to rip her head off.
"'Cause she can't, Zelman," a familiar voice reached their ears, causing them to break the eye contact and look at the intruder, who was leaning against the frame of the double door that lead into the living room.
The clicking of heels followed shortly after. "How many times do I have to tell you that you can't just burst into others' conversations!"
A breathless Sayuka appeared next to the Purple-haired, glaring fiercely at him. If looks could kill, Sayuka would be ranked second right after her master himself.
Zelman clicked his tongue in annoyance and shot them a nasty glare that showed him how mad he was at them, but still started a talk with Rinsuke, "And why? 'Cause she is too lazy to talk?"
While they were bickering, the girl left her position behind Zelman, noticing the dark vibes coming from Sayuka as soon as she saw the position the two were in. She settled with sitting next to him instead or rather on the other end of the couch.
"No," Rinsuke denied, shaking his head. "If you haven't noticed until now, I will tell you. She hasn't said a single world since the day we have found her. Not one word since she has entered the Special Zone, nor a sign of some kind of companion of hers that is able to talk. And her wolf logically isn't. She is dumb, Zelman."
"Well, I've already noticed that she is stupid, thank you for your enlightenment."
"Mou, Zelman! You know that's not what I meant," he pouted, waving his arms through the air in exaggeration. "She isn't dumb as in stupid, but dumb as in unable to speak! No matter how hard you try, she will not talk. She's a mute."
The red-haired vampire gave an audible sigh in response and crossed his legs.
"Well, then we have to try things differently," he mumbled.
.
"Okay," Rinsuke started the conversation, looking at the girl that was now sitting next to him on the couch and to Zelman afterwards, who was lying on the couch opposite to them, his eyes focused on the ceiling, "What do you thi-"
"Stop right there," Zelman demanded, not even taking a glace at the Purple-haired, still angered by the fact that every time he seems to get closer to the girl someone had to interrupt. "First of all, what do you want here? Why do you always have to intrude, when you're not wanted?"
One couldn't tell whether it was an actual or a rhetorical question, but Rinsuke answered anyway, "Sei wanted me to make sure that the girl was fine… And truth to be told, I myself wanted to make sure that you didn't do anything stupid."
This words caught the vampire's interest and he took a look at the girl on the other couch. 'Has Rinsuke taken a liking to her?'
"As you can see, she's alive and well. That means that you can go now."
Rinsuke sweat-dropped at Zelman's straightforward behavior. "You're definitely the worst host ever..."
With this words being said, the brunette next to him rose from her seat and started to make her way towards the couch Zelman was currently lying on.
"If I didn't know better, I would say that you have offended her by insulting me," Zelman stated.
While she made her way towards the Black Blood, Rinsuke continued, watching the movements of the girl, "As if I would know that. She's a mystery to me. And I'm still here, because I'm as interested in her as you are."
Zelman followed his example and observed how the girl was making her way towards him.
"I've never said that I have an interest in her and you don't have the right to assume that I do," he scoffed and was about to get up from his lying position, taking his eyes off the girl. "If you don't want to leave, I'll do."
In an attempt to get up, he tried to lift his upper body with his arms, but before he had been even able to move, he was stopped by the girl.
Sitting down on his stomach, her arms crossed over her chest, she prevented him from moving – and from leaving. Why did she do that? Well, she should know.
"I'm sorry," he apologized, sighing while he folded his arms behind his neck and closed his eyes, but soon opened them again. Because he didn't expect an answer formed with words but rather one showing in her expression.
And an answer he got. She looked at him in confusion, waiting for him to explain why he apologized.
"I didn't give you enough credit by calling you dumb. But I think that I have finally found the right word to describe you. You're not dumb as in stupid, but rather utterly nerve-racking."
Even though his words were meant as an insult, he wasn't even trying to escape the situation he was in. Instead, he closed his eyes again, and relaxed underneath her weight. She smiled at him in satisfaction, but soon disregarded her show of emotions.
"Actually," Rinsuke sighed, gaining the attention of the girl and Zelman, who opened one eye to look at him, "I don't understand you at all, Zelman… and I don't get, if you two hate or like each other..."
His proposal caused the two of them to look at him with wide eyes, before averting them to look at each other instead. Fire-red eyes stared into ice-blue one's until the rather 'romantic' scene was interrupted by a baffled Sayuka who burst through the door.
"Oh?" Rinsuke smirked, taking his chance to make fun of her, lifting one of his eyebrows in a suggestive matter. "Didn't you tell me that one shouldn't burst into others' conversations? Where are your manners, Miss Personal Assistant?"
But Sayuka was too out of breath to give one of her bitchy trademark remarks.
"Calm down, Sayuka," Zelman said pacifying, "What happened?"
She shot the Purple-haired a disapproving glance and explained between breaths, "Silver Blade's brother has gone missing. He is currently searching for him. Sei wants you to return to headquarters immediately and help him search, since you aren't needed at work at the moment."
"Not needed? What do they think? They just don't know that they are useless without me," the investigator boasted, shaking his head.
Heaving a big sigh, Zelman shifted and lifted himself in an upright position, supporting his body with his arms, as far as it was possible with the girl still sitting on his stomach.
"Sayuka, don't worry and go home for now. Rinsuke, you'll go as requested and help Jirou to find his brother," he ordered, looking at each of them. His eyes came to a halt at the girl in front of him, "As for you, you'll stay inside the mansion and wait for my return, while I help Rinsuke and Jirou."
"We'll 'talk' later," he added in a whisper.
.
As soon as the others had left the mansion, she was standing in front of the entrance door, deliberating whether she should for once obey the demand of her host or go off on her own again.
But when she looked at her animal companion his look told her that she would disobey either way. This is why she decided to leave the mansion despite Zelman's words. She had a bad feeling about the missing Kotarou and just couldn't ignore her need to search for him.
Walking along the streets, some deserted, some rather crowded, her eyes were glued to the ground, while she was kicking pebbles, cans and everything that came into her view.
She was aimlessly roaming around, sometimes stopping to get a better look at something. Until a certain figure caught her interest.
Red-orange colored hair, a yellow coat and a sword bound to his back.
He was making his way through the crowd, trying to go by unnoticed, and disappeared into a narrow alleyway.
Since the black wolf that was accompanying her made attempts to follow him, she fulfilled his wish and followed the person. It was a hassle enough to simply walk around with him due to his height, but most would mistake him as some kind of abnormally big dog. But not at least to avoid further problems, she followed him. She couldn't deny that she herself was curious as well.
Her chase led her through the streets and small alleys, until she finally came to a halt in front of a dump, where she eventually lost sight of him.
But she didn't need to see him in order to know that he was there. She could still sense his presence.
"I've waited a long time to finally meet you," a voice whispered into her ear.
Chapter 6~
When I first started writing the chapter, I didn't think that it would end like this xD
The game was supposed to give at least little information about the girl, but in the end, there weren't any information at all. But some will definitely be mentioned in the next chapter!
I'm sorry that it took me so long to update, but my internet didn't work properly for the last few weeks...
