A week and a few days had passed since Thirteen and Cameron got together and the only day they spent apart was Christmas. Cameron couldn't contain her happiness. She wore a smile constantly while she was working and when the nurses inquired about her constant happiness, she would usually respond, "Why shouldn't I be happy?" With a smile of course. The nurses had their usual gossip, though. They wondered about the source of Dr. Cameron's new happiness. It ranged from Cuddy giving her a raise to her and Chase getting back together. Cameron didn't acknowledge their not so subtle childish chatter, she had better things to think about, like her girlfriend.
Thirteen, on the other hand, was playing a much more dangerous game. She definitely didn't want her shit eating boss to find out about her relationship with the head of the ER and she really did not want her girlfriend's ex-husband to notice their relationship, yet. Thankfully, the poker face she had spent years perfecting came in handy at times like this. The pair also made sure that they were seen seldom together in the hospital. Breaks would usually be spent at the coffee shop a block away from the hospital and lunches were literally anywhere but the hospital cafeteria. The less frequently they were seen together, the better. Cameron despised having to hide their relationship from people, but with the given conditions, she acknowledge it was probably from the best.
Around one, Cameron habitually met up with Thirteen at Thirteen's car for lunch. There was no text to confirm the time or no email asking for a lunch date, the two just knew where to go and when to meet. Thirteen was leaning against the side of her car as she watch Cameron approach. Cameron was still wearing her pink work scrubs, which Thirteen thought was adorable.
"Hey." Cameron spoke as she went up on her tip toes to give Thirteen a peck on the cheek.
"Hey there." Thirteen smiled back, "Ready for lunch?" She asked as she walked over to the driver side of the car, still eying Cameron as she walked to the passenger side.
"Yep." Cameron chirped before ducking down to enter the car. "Where are we heading today?"
"Pho sound any good to you?" Thirteen asked as she put her keys in the ignition.
"Sure. That's pretty close too." Cameron thought aloud.
"Do you have to be back soon?" Thirteen spoke as she steered the car out the parking garage.
"Sort of. A lot of paper work today and I want to make sure I can make it over to your place on time for dinner tonight." Cameron spoke. She had to admit, she was usually at least an hour late for dinner every time they planned for the occasion.
"Don't worry about it." Thirteen smoothly replied. "If I manage to finish this case quickly, I'll come down and help you out with it. Paper work goes by a hell of a lot faster when all you got to do is fill it out, I'll do the sorting and the filing." Thirteen smiled at Cameron as she stopped at a traffic light.
"God you are so sexy when you talk about helping me with paperwork." Cameron flirtatiously teased. Thirteen noticed ever since they started dating that Cameron has gotten a lot bolder, in the seductive sense, and she loved it.
"So, what would you like to do this weekend?" Cameron asked as she watched her girlfriend very untactfully slurp up a rogue noodle from her bowl of pho.
"Just hanging out in our pajamas and watching TV while eating whatever artificially sweetened food I have in my or your place sounds great to me, this week has been exhausting." Thirteen spoke as she looked around her soup for any remaining noodles. Cameron couldn't help but to laugh at the sight.
"You look like such a child! Just have some of the soup so you aren't fishing for noodles." Cameron accused more than suggested, Thirteen put down her chop sticks and held out the spoon that they brought with her meal.
"Do you see the size of this spoon and do you see the amount of soup in this bowl?!" Thirteen spoke in an overreacting, sarcastic tone. "It will take me a day to spoon all the soup out and there are other things that I would much rather be spooning." Thirteen added, her left eyebrow was seductively perched as she eyed Cameron for a reaction.
Cameron rolled her eyes and lifted up her hands in an obvious display by her shoulders. "I am going to teach you an ancient Chinese technique Remy. You see these appendages, we call them hands. You can grab things with hands, things like bowls. If you take the bowl to your oral cavity using your hands and tip the bowl slightly so the contents within the bowl slowly flow into your oral cavity, you can more effectively transfer the contents of the bowl to your body." Cameron very over dramatically demonstrated sipping her soup from the bowl with her own bowl of pho.
Thirteen pretended to look confused. "… I think I'm going to need a step-by-step diagram, Alli." She smiled when she saw Cameron laugh. She lifted up the bowl and drank some soup.
"But do you have anything you want to do this weekend? You know anything is fine with me." Thirteen spoke when as she put her bowl of soup down.
"No, hanging out and being lazy sounds great. I've had a rough week too and a little relaxing sounds wonderful." Cameron casually answered, still smiling at Thirteen.
"Great." Thirteen warmly replied. Thirteen glanced down at her watched and noticed they only had ten minutes left on their break. Cameron saw the obvious action and made a reach for her purse.
"Don't worry Alli, I got it." Thirteen spoke as she dropped a twenty on the table. Cameron let out an exacerbated sigh.
"You have not let me pay once this week." Cameron pouted. Thirteen weighed her options briefly and decided Cameron can't chastise her if they just leave. Thirteen slowly started to get up but was immediately scolded by Cameron.
"Nuh-uh!" Cameron practically yelled as she pointed her finger at Thirteen. Thirteen was shocked by her sudden outburst that she dropped back in her chair. Cameron maintained her glare and point as she got out of her chair and made the quick journey across the table to where Thirteen was sitting.
"Come on Alli, just let me do something nice—Wh-What are you doing?!" Thirteen was in the middle of defending herself when suddenly Cameron sat down on Thirteen's lap, straddling Thirteen to her chair. The pink scrubbed doctor's hands where on either side of the back of Thirteen's chair, keeping her contained to the chair. They sat face to face.
"I am going to sit like this, here, in the middle of this restaurant until you let me pay." Cameron spoke breathily into Thirteen's ear. Thirteen didn't know what to think. Here she was, her girlfriend sitting on her lap in the middle of this restaurant, whispering breathily in her ear. She was both turned on and beyond embarrassed, but her iron will would not waver so quickly. Two could play at this game. Thirteen grazed her hands down Cameron's thighs and closed the distance between her and Cameron's face, only leaving no more than two inches between them. She heard Cameron whimper.
"I could stay here all day." Thirteen seductively spoke. She hoped it would fool Cameron into thinking she didn't mind the current situation. Or at least embarrass her enough so she would get off. However Thirteen's voice couldn't distract Cameron from her noticing how her eyes were shifting from side to side, scanning the restaurant for people who may be noticing this scene. Cameron flicked her head from side to side as well. She noticed that they were the only two in the restaurant, the only sign that there was anyone else in the restaurant was the loud sounds of a stove sizzling in the back. That gave Cameron all the confidence she needed.
Cameron wrapped her arms around Thirteen's torso and promptly closed the remaining distance between hers and Thirteen's lips. She felt Thirteen's body tense initially, but a moment later she felt her shoulders relax and Thirteen's arms gravitate to her waste. Seconds after, she felt Thirteen's tongue gloss across her bottom lip, asking for permission to enter. Cameron delightfully granted permission as she separated her lips and felt Thirteen's tongue explore her mouth. A shushed moaned escaped her and she felt Thirteen smile against her lips. Cameron broke the kiss practically jumped off of Thirteen's lap when she heard the bell tone signaling someone was entering the restaurant. Thirteen whipped her head over to the door and saw a mother, covering her son's eyes, as she pulled him back out the restaurant. Thirteen looked at the now standing Cameron and smiled at her.
"I didn't imagine our first actual kiss would be used as a tactic to get me into letting you pay for something." Thirteen laughed. "But I suppose I should let you pay, you earned it." Thirteen spoke as she reclaimed her twenty dollar bill.
"F-Fair enough." Cameron managed to speak. Her original intention was not a brief make out session with her girlfriend but god was she ever happy it happened. Her lips still tingled from the contact.
Thirteen touched her lips absent mindedly as she stared at the folder for her case. Her lips still tingled from Cameron. Once they arrived at the parking garage, Thirteen decided to park further out than usual hoping that Cameron wouldn't object to a no-so-brief make out session. To her delight, Cameron responded enthusiastically. A slight smile crept on her lips as she mused about how cute aggressive Cameron was in her head.
"What did you do on your extra-long break that has so happy, oh sacred bisexual one?" House sat at the head of the table eying his one female doctor on the time.
"I got out of here, god, it was wonderful." Thirteen responded as she quickly withdrew her hand from her face and hardened her facial expression, she looked around the table to her other coworkers and saw that they were all staring at her.
"What?" She asked sternly, she became worried when she noticed Taub and Chase smiling.
"Looks like it's been decided then." Foreman concluded. Thirteen was visibly becoming annoyed. She flicked her gaze back to House.
"While you were off daydreaming about some hot lesbian three-some you had on your break, I was explaining that Cuddy wants one of you precious ducklings to accompany me to a convention on modern medicine these weekend in DC. She, apparently, can't go because of some last minute 'family matters' and chaperon me" House placed an emphasis, ", and you were the only one that didn't speak up about rejecting to take me just now soo… Pick me up tomorrow at 8?" House finally explained as he grabbed his phone out of his pocket. Thirteen groaned audibly.
"House, just go by yourself. I have plans for this weekend." Thirteen defended. She was supposed to be snuggling a cute blonde all weekend, not stuck in a car with House for 8 hours.
"Sorry sugar tits. Rules are rules." House spoke less than charmingly. Thirteen rolled back in her chair and let a steady stream of air pass through her lips. She was pissed, but she was too proud to beg someone else to go for her. "Did the cheek swab confirm mono?" Thirteen asked in a monotone voice.
"Yea, cased solved." Foreman replied.
Thirteen nodded and promptly exited the room. She had to go disappoint a certain blonde.
"I'm sorry for having to force this on you Dr. Cameron, but it means the world to me that you're saying yes. I'll email you the details tonight." Thirteen heard Cuddy speak as she was standing in the doorway to Cameron office. Cuddy turned and completely exited the office, nodding to Thirteen as she walked past.
"What did Cuddy want?" Thirteen asked as she entered Cameron's office, closing the door behind her. Cameron was taken by surprise by the sudden entrance, but quickly relaxed back into her seat noticing it was Thirteen.
"Cuddy needs me to head to some medical convention in DC this weekend to represent the hospital. She said she and House needed to go and now she can't go and I have too," Cameron rambled as she began working on her paper work again.
"You're joking? House is making me go to this convention with him." Thirteen interrupted Cameron's droning. Thirteen watched as an eyebrow shot up on Cameron's face.
"Why do you have to go?" Cameron pondered, "Can't House go by himself?"
"He said since Cuddy can't go, she's making him get a chaperon and against my will I have been chosen." Thirteen responded. She sat down in front of Cameron's desk and began looking at a few folders of paper work to help sort them out. Cameron set the file she was reading down and looked at Thirteen.
"Rem, it'll be a road trip with me, you and House." Cameron spoke concerningly. "He is going to figure out we're together." Thirteen looked up from the file she was reading.
"It's probably better to tell him and pray to god he doesn't give us shit for it… Or tell Chase." Thirteen droned. She had briefly forgotten about Chase. By the looks of Cameron's reaction, it seems she had forgotten about him too.
"Oh shit Rem, what're we going to do?" Cameron rested her head in her palms as she placed her elbows on her desk. "I don't think I am ready for him to know." Cameron continued to worry. Thirteen cursed the Aussie in her head as she quickly thought of a way to calm her down. She reached across the desk and rubbed her forearm, trying to get her to look at her.
"Don't worry Al, I'll make a deal with House. There is nothing he loves more than screwing with people so we'll figure it out. I'll make sure that we are the ones who tell Chase about us." Thirteen spoke as she walked over to the opposite side of the desk where Cameron was sitting and knelt down to wrap her arm around her. Cameron leaned into her embrace.
"Thank you, it means a lot." Cameron said as she started kissing Thirteen's ear. Thirteen begrudgingly leaned away from the kiss and made her way over to her side of the desk.
"No problem," she spoke smugly, happy from the affection Cameron was showing her. "Let's get this paperwork sorted and I'll go talk to House." Cameron nodded in agreement.
"I'm going to need some coffee for this," Cameron spoke standing up, "Do you want one?" Cameron asked Thirteen as she grabbed her wallet.
"I'd love one."
"House, we need to talk." Thirteen spoke as she entered House's office. She looked over to the briefing room cattycorner to House's office and saw that only Taub was sitting there, writing in what could presume to be the case file.
"I was wondering when you would come by and see if you can get another to replace you for our little trip tomorrow, but its set in stone now, talk to Cuddy if you have a big deal with it." House spoke nonchalantly as he typed on his laptop.
"No it's… It's not that exactly." Thirteen chastised herself for sounding so annoying. House perched his eyebrow in curiosity, turning his body more towards Thirteen.
"We'll, what is it then?" House asked, still sounded unimpressed but Thirteen knew there was no backing out now. She sat down in front of House and made fairly aggressive eyecontact.
"I am going to tell you something that you were going to figure out this weekend, but in return, I don't want you to tell anyone about it." Thirteen spoke almost threatening.
"We'll if I am going to figure it out this weekend then why should I agree to not tell anyone. I'll just wait till I figure it out on my own and tell everyone then." House purposed. Thirteen rolled her eyes.
"Because, if you agree now, I'll do anything you want, not sexual, but for however long is needed." Thirteen groaned internally when she saw House's face light up.
"You know what you're getting yourself into, right?" House smirked. "You're making yourself my personal bitch for anything, not sexual of course, just to not tell a secret." House spun around in his chair. "Oh man this is too good. I agree, what is this horrible secret that I was going to find out this weekend?"
"Cameron and I are dating." Thirteen deadpanned. She watched as her boss fist pumped and sang false praise to Jesus. She looked over to see if Taub was noticing her crazed boss as he was working on the case file, but thankfully it seemed he had left during their earlier conversation. She looked back at House and saw him sitting with his hand rested on his heart.
"I knew it! Daddy's little girl is all grown up and turning straight women into confused lesbians. And you went and turned the Aussie's ex-wife. I couldn't be more proud of you even if you were my daughter." House pretended to reach for a tissue from his desk. "How was I going to figure this out tomorrow anyhow," House spoke, still with a smile plastered on his face.
"She is coming with us tomorrow to the medical convention in DC." House shook his head in disbelief.
"Maybe there is a god." House praised yet again. There was a pause in the conversation as House sat processing all the information. Thirteen was about to get up and leave when House stole her attention while she was getting out of the chair. "How long exactly are you going to be my personal errand girl for?" Thirteen rolled her eyes.
"However long it takes for Cameron to be ready to tell Chase." Thirteen responded, now standing in front of House's desk.
"You know they can arrest me for indentured servitude in this day and age, Thirteen?" House sarcastically spoke, smirk still on his face. Thirteen rolled her eyes and began to exit the room.
"Thirteen!" Thirteen stopped midstride and shot an angry look at House.
"What?" Thirteen responded when she received no response from stopping.
"Get me a bagel with cream cheese from the cafeteria please." House spoke, playing with the ball on his desk.
"House its 7 p.m." Thirteen spoke.
"Its 7 p.m. and I'm without a bagel."
"Fine." Thirteen groaned exiting the office. She prayed that Cameron would be ready to tell Chase soon.
