Chapter - 6

"Like what you see?"

Buttercup looked up at Brick, watching him give her a sly smile. When had this jerk gotten in? Had she really been so engrossed in relaxing that she hadn't even heard his footsteps when he had crept inside? And most importantly, what was he even doing here right now?

"I don't know if you know this Brick, but the rest of the team is going to come here for our practice", snapped Buttercup. "If you were planning on having a leisurely swim, I'm afraid you can't."

"Oh, can't I?" Brick sneered. Before Buttercup could read the expression on his face and make out what he was going to do, he suddenly stepped back a few paces and came running towards the edge. He leaped several feet into the air and came crashing down with a huge splash, cannon balling right next to Buttercup.

"Aah!" Buttercup shrieked, as the water sprayed all over her, the impact of his drop creating powerful waves in the pool. She had to steady herself before glaring at the redhead, who was now moving in the water with lazy strokes.

"God, I've missed this", Brick sighed. He looked over at Buttercup, who seemed ready to strangle him, and laughed. He had forgotten how much fun it was to mock the green puff and watch her temper getting the better of her. She could be really entertaining when angry.

If he wasn't careful though, she'd probably punch a hole through his stomach.

"What the HELL are you doing!?" Buttercup screamed. Although the pool could be used by any student at any time of the day, these two hours were specifically allotted to the team for their daily practice. The coach was very strict regarding their routine, and did not entertain anyone—student or teacher—disrupting their time. "You asshole! Get out of the pool before the coach gets here!"

"Tsk, tsk. Language Buttercup. What kind of a girl has such a foul mouth?" Brick responded with a grin.

"The kind who will kick your butt if you don't get out of the pool right now!" she growled back, wanting nothing better than to wipe that smile off his face. Blossom had advised the girls not to do anything stupid, especially Buttercup, who was prone to getting carried away when angry. She had grudgingly agreed at the time, not realizing that talking to even one of the Rowdyruff boys would get her riled up easily.

Brick laughed out loud, enjoying watching Buttercup get irritated by the second. Her face was flushed red with anger already, and it looked like she was having a hard time controlling her temper. Just one more tiny push and she would topple over the edge.

"Ah, Butters, do you really think you can do that? You're more than welcome to try of course, but frankly I don't think it is such a good idea. I don't want to have to hurt you."

"Hah! You hurt me?" Buttercup scoffed. "I don't think you need to worry about that, shit face. Just get the hell out of here before I decide to throw you out of this building."

"Let's not say things that we will regret later. You may just have to bite back your words. After all, you are just a girl."

Buttercup had been about to climb out of the pool, but the last bit made her stop short.

"What did you say?" she whispered.

"Oh come on Butters, don't pretend like you haven't realized it yourself" Brick said. He was so close to making her lose control that he could almost feel her anger radiating towards him in waves.

"I don't remember my being a girl ever stopping me before."

Brick shrugged lazily. "It was different when we were kids; we were evenly matched back then. But now we're grown up. As a girl, even you can't match our strength, although you're stronger than your sisters. I hate to say this babe, but I can easily defeat you if you tried to take me on."

More than anything, his casual use of the word "babe" was what made her finally lose it.

Nobody called her babe.

With an angry cry, Buttercup launched herself on Brick and her weight pushed him under the surface of the water. Pulling him up, she punched him in the face, her fist connecting heavily with his jaw. The force of her hit threw Brick backwards, his body thudding against the edge of the pool. Before he could manage to steady himself, she was there, punching and kicking him with all her strength.

His own temper flared uncontrollably and he ducked beneath the water and caught hold of Buttercup by her waist, slamming his body against her stomach. Her breath whooshed out of her body from the sudden blow, and she winced. Throwing her over his shoulders, Brick turned and climbed out of the pool. He dropped her body on the floor, bringing it down with a crash and before she could get up and hit him again, he pinned himself on top of her. Catching hold of both her wrists, he used his own weight to stop her from writhing beneath him violently.

Maybe because she had been swimming for a while, but Buttercup could feel the energy draining out from her body, her muscles going suddenly limp. She stopped fighting to try and catch her breath.

Watching Buttercup tire out beneath him, Brick relaxed his hold on her wrists a little. He hadn't expected her to stop fighting so soon, almost disappointed that it had been so easy.

He could finish her right here, right now if he wanted.

He looked at her face, red and sweaty, her eyes closed as she breathed heavily. Her swimming cap was nowhere in sight. She had probably lost it when they had been fighting in the pool. Her raven black hair was spread under her on the floor, long and wet. She had grown it out. When they had been kids, her hair had been short, almost as short as a boy's. But now it probably ended way below her shoulders. Good. He liked women with longer hair.

Wait, what? Where the hell did that come from?

Dismissing his thought as quickly as it had come, he looked back at the girl trapped under him. His eyes travelled downwards taking in every detail, from her slightly parted pink lips to her slender neck. He glanced lower, where her chest was heaving with every breath she took.

In spite of himself, he let out a small gasp.

She wasn't very big; he could scarcely make out the shape of her breasts from under her suit. There was no hint of a cleavage, because what she was wearing covered almost every bit of her. All the important bits anyway. Maybe if she wore the right bra and something with a plunging neckline, he would get to see more of what was interesting.

He had always been attracted to women who had better assets, but for some reason, he couldn't take his eyes off of her. Maybe it was the way she was breathing heavily at the moment, like she had been involved in an extremely vigorous physical act. With each breath she took, her breasts swelled under his watchful gaze, and he was almost certain that he could make out her nipples, pushing through the material of her suit.

Buttercup had been involved in a physical act that would wear her out. But not quite the act that Brick was suddenly finding himself thinking about.

He was surprised to realize that he wanted to touch her. Right now.

He looked over at her lips again, wondering what it would feel like if he brushed it, just a little, with his own. He stared at her for a long time and licked his lower lip, shaking slightly from the thoughts that were rapidly filling his mind. Before he could stop himself, he lowered his head just a little and glimpsed at her eyes. He found them wide open, watching him in shocked silence.

"Buttercup, I - "

WHACK!

Buttercup kneed him hard in the groin, not letting him complete his sentence. Stars exploded in front of his eyes and he fell back with a long groan, clutching between his legs. She scrambled to get up quickly and then shot him a look of pure loathing.

"You sick fuck! What were you trying to do?!"

Brick got up slowly, his legs shut tight to try and ease the pain. He looked at her and saw her wild expression, like she couldn't believe what had just happened.

"What the hell did you think I was trying to do? I was trying to make sure you were okay! You stopped moving so suddenly, I thought the blow you had received earlier had caused more damage than I had intended!"

"No you weren't! You were trying to kiss me!" Buttercup exclaimed. She was so unnerved by the events that she couldn't even manage to keep her voice down.

More than a little angry—and embarrassed— at having been caught at an awkward moment, Brick lashed out.

"Are you out of your fucking mind?" he laughed. "Gosh Butters, I didn't know you were this desperate." He noticed her flinching slightly at the comment and continued. "Not that I want to brag about it, but if I wanted a girl, I could have anyone in this school. Any. Goddamn. Girl. That being the case, why in hell would I want a girl who has got nothing going for her physically? I mean, seriously, have you looked at yourself in the mirror? You might as well be a boy."

Buttercup felt like she had been slapped on her face. She couldn't hide the sudden hurt from showing in her eyes.

Brick noticed her expression, and for a moment he felt something close to regret at having said that.

Why the fuck should he care that his words had hurt her?! This was actually brilliant! He now knew that she was vulnerable. The only reason he had been able to overcome her before was because she had been tired from her swim. But then she had bounced right back and hit him in his balls. That bitch!

He was going to have to use her vulnerability against her if he wanted to beat this chick.

Buttercup quickly shook her head, trying to get rid of the sudden pain that she had felt at Brick's comment. She knew she wasn't a girly girl. She knew she wasn't pretty like her sisters. She had come to terms with it, long back. Heck, she loved being who she was! She was the strongest Powerpuff, everyone was terrified of her. Even her sisters knew not to cross her. Why should it matter that Brick thought her body was like a boy's?

She opened her mouth to say something, but just then a group of students entered the area, with the coach following closely behind.

"Hey Buttercup!" someone cried. "You're here early. Again"

Buttercup turned to smile at her best friend, glad to be able to get away from Brick.

"Hi Mitch. Yeah, I was just trying to get in some extra practice."

"Hah! Like you even need it", Mitch laughed. "I bet you were using your powers in the pool. You're always complaining how it isn't any fun to swim without using your super strength."

Buttercup grinned in return. Mitch was the only person who knew her better than anyone else. Although she was very close to her sisters, there were some things that you just couldn't share with your family. Mitch and she had been best friends since kindergarten, always getting into trouble together and partaking in all sorts of mischief. Over the years, he had lost most of his wild streak, although he could still break into his wayward self from time to time.

"Who's the new guy?" Mitch asked suddenly, noticing Brick. He walked over to him and extended a friendly hand. "Hi there. The name's Mitch. Are you going to be joining our team?"

Before Brick could answer, Buttercup pulled Mitch back. "No, he was just leaving." She glared at Brick, before taking Mitch's hand and walking away.

The coach gathered his students around. Mr. Johnson was in his late 20s. He had been a coach for the Pokey Oaks swim team for 3 years now. He was sharp as well as stern, always pushing his students to work harder. Many of the girls, and also some of the female teachers, had a crush on him. He had a fine body, kept fit from years of swimming. He also had a nice face, which at the moment looked just a tiny bit impatient.

"Quit shuffling around people! I have something to say to everyone."

The students stood around him, waiting for him to start speaking. Buttercup glanced back to see that Brick was still standing there. Was he ever going to leave?

"Alright students, before we begin our practice today, we're going to hold a small test for a new student who has shown his interest in joining our team. Nothing fancy, we'll just be checking his speed before we can consider letting him join us."

With rising horror, Buttercup realized who the new guy was.

"Everyone, this is Brick Jojo." said the coach, gesturing towards Brick, who walked up in front of the students.

"I thought you said he was leaving", Mitch whispered to Buttercup, while Brick introduced himself to the rest of the students.

Buttercup stood silently, not able to give him a reply. Standing beside the coach, Brick caught her eyes and gave a tiny smirk.
