I Would Say Ooh La La

Roy blinked only once and let his eyes adjust to the vast amounts of students that crowded the halls. He quickly shifted to Riza, whose demeanor seemed very calm but Roy knew under that smile was nerves that were shaking away. He nudged Maes and gave that signature smirk to him and Maes knew exactly what to do. Maes grabbed Riza's hand and started running down the marble hallway.

"This way Riza, we meet up over this way. There are a few people I want to introduce to you!" Riza followed, much to her dislike of getting dragged down the never ending hallway, she was excited to meet up with a group of people. It felt nice to have friends a new school that liked her for her and not for her royal charms.

Maes slowed slightly when he caught sight of Ed and Al talking and laughing with a large group of people. There was one in particular that Maes wanted to see and she was smiling and laughing with the group of friends.

"Gracia, my love," Maes exclaimed happily and quickly dropped Riza's wrist and replaced it with Gracia, pulling her into a huge hug. "Riza, this is my lovely girlfriend, Gracia. And Gracia, this is Riza, the princess of Allucah."

"Well Riza, it is a pleasure to meet you! I take it you'll be hanging out with our mismatched group of friends, huh?" Riza nodded and let a little chuckle escape her lips. Gracia was quite lovely, with short, sandy blonde hair, and a lovely smile, she was even more beautiful than in Maes's photos.

"I'd say so. I seemed to kind of be adopted into this group," Riza said, charming Gracia with a sweet smile.

Riza looked around to see where Roy had gone, and true to form, he had his arm slung around some girl and she was falling right into him. She felt a heat surge spark through her body, but quickly shoved that down her own throat.

"So Riza, how long are you going to be here," Gracia quickly asked, noticing the sour look that had only graced Riza's features for a moment.

"I should only be here until the spring semester starts, and then I go back home to finish up school," Riza answered quickly, her eyes fluttering away from Roy and his new girl and back to Gracia. "What is your schedule like Gracia?"

"Well this morning I have geometry, honors band, and then gym. It's such an exciting morning and then I have creative writing, photography, and history how about you?"

"Well, I have geometry with you then, and that will be fun! I'll take you there, if you want o head to class right now," Gracia offered heading off towards the lecture hall but not before giving Maes a hug and a sweet kiss on the cheek.

"Alright," Riza smiled and followed happily. "I'll see you all later."

Riza followed Gracia, bobbing and weaving through the traffic of students with Gracia at the lead.

"So you got really lucky," Gracia yelled over the crowd of kids that they were swerving through. "You got a great professor for this class! He's awesome at teaching and making sure everyone knows what to do; I had him last year for algebra. You're going to love the class!"

Riza followed Gracia into the large, hollowed hall and felt the nerves finally set in. The hall was swarming with people that were all strategically taking their seats that would ultimately decide where they would be for the rest of the year: nothing intimidating about that at all.

"Riza, over here," she heard a voice call out further up in the atrium. Riza smiled and ran over to the voice, leaving Gracia to catch up with a few of her friends. "Eli! It's so good to see you!"

Eli smiled and offered the seat right above him to her, and she took it happily.

"So Riza, how are you doing this morning," Eli asked, taking in how lovely Riza looked, trying not to be too weird about it.

"Pretty good, I'm really excited to be here and get started learning what it's like to be a part of the Amestris school system. It should be an interesting day."

"I'm glad to hear that, I've got my alchemy exam today, and I can't say I'm ready for it. I'm no Roy Mustang, naturally gifted with knowledge and such," Eli smiled one of his signature dazzling smiles. Riza felt her heart flutter and the butterflies fill her stomach to the absolute brim. Riza had a blush creep up to her cheeks and couldn't contain her happiness. She mentally scolded herself for feeling this way, knowing that she couldn't allow for herself to fall for this handsome boy.

"You'll be just fine," Riza returned his smile. "As a matter of fact, I think you'll do even better than Mustang."

"Haha well thank you for that Riza, I don't think that. Roy, ever since he was little, was always better than everyone. He just is. No one can really explain it, but he has never failed in his life. Most people say it's just luck for him, or that he's the 'Prince'," Eli emphasized with snarky air quotes causing Riza to laugh. "But Maes and I both know that he just can absorb information and retain it, making him a true genius. It's pretty incredible, but it also makes you hate him, just ever so slightly."

Riza smiled at him, but heard the chair next to her scoot out, only to see a boy with the same royal blue pants and white shirt, but much more disheveled. His long black hair was tied back in a long ponytail and he had a slim angular face, and gave Riza a snake like smile that caused chills to crawl up her spine.

"Well hello pretty girl. I take it you're the fresh meat here. My name is Kimblee, and I am one of the best here to get to know. Follow me and I'll show you the ropes," the boy introduced himself.

Riza gave the boy an icy look but before her mouth could open Eli injected. "Kimblee, get out of here. You're not welcome."

Eli stood up and glared Kimblee right in the eye. Obviously Kimblee and Eli were not friends in the slightest.

"Oh sit the fuck down, daddy's boy. Let the lady make a decision for herself," Kimblee retorted, clearly not afraid of anyone with any power.

"Thanks Kimblee, but no thanks. Anyone who refers to me as "fresh meat" will surely not get my attention," Riza smirked at the boy and turned her attention back to Eli, giving him a little motion telling him to sit down.

Before Riza knew it, Kimblee had slammed his hands down on her desk and their faces were merely inches apart. Riza took a deep breath, but didn't back down. She didn't even flinch. "Listen here Sweetie, you either are with me or against me and let me tell you: you do not want to be against me."

Riza moved in closer to his face and stared him right in the eye, giving him the "hawkeye" death glare. "Listen here boy, you do not threaten me, understood? I am stronger than you, I am smarter than you, and I am far more capable than you. Do not push me."

Kimblee quickly backed off, giving her a sneer. "So the fresh meat has some bite. See you around sweetie." He picked up his tan messenger bag and walked to the other side of the room and took a seat in the corner of the larger lecture hall. Riza wrinkled her nose at him and turned back to Eli.

"He seems just charming."

"Yeah, that's Kimblee. He's a bit of uh…a character. He is a less than desirable person to be around," Eli replied tousling his brown hair and sighing.

Riza nodded and shook off Kimblee's actions and made small talk with Eli until their professor walked in and started teaching right off the bat. He was an older man with a scruffy, grey beard that looked more itchy than soft. However, there was a twinkle in the old man's blue eyes that lit up whenever he started talking about a problem he particularly liked. Riza decided he reminded her much of her Grandpa, who despite his old age, was teeming with life.

The class seemed to drag on but not too poorly for only being an hour long. Riza just was not a fan of math at early hours of the day. She was surely more excited for literature than math. She kicked Eli's chair just slightly making him turn around, only to see her holding a small sign up that read "HI (:". Eli smirked and quickly scribbled a little letter to her and whipped it over his shoulder, right onto her desk.

"Hiiiiii beautiful :D." Riza smiled at the note and stuffed it into a pocket of her book bag and let the rest of the class unfold for her to learn.

Eli smiled slightly at Riza's gorgeous smile and let the warm tingly sensation cover him. He couldn't deny it, he really did like her.

The class let out and Riza made her way to the next hall, not too far away from her math class. She knew Roy had literature with her and was not excited to see girls losing their minds over the Prince. The room she was in this time around was much more intimate, much more of a discussion based classroom. Bookshelves loomed all around the tanned room, completely stacked to the brim with heavily worn books, obviously loved by their owner. Riza took her seat in the circle of desks with a few other girls. They all chatted away about summer and their adventures and for some, their misadventures. Riza smiled, listening in on one of the girl's embarrassing stories of falling off a boat at a lake. But, the girls quickly turned from giggling to whispering once the one and only Roy Mustang entered the room. Riza rolled her eyes at the debutant air that seemed to follow Roy closely where ever he walked. He tossed his bag down at a desk right next to her and took a seat.

"Hey Princess, how was your first class," Roy asked politely, honestly interested in how her day was going.

"So far, so good, I met someone by the name of Kimblee. He really seemed like the type of guy I'd really want to make friends with," Riza answered with sarcasm dripping off her tongue.

Roy let out a loud laugh and placed a hand heavily on her shoulder. "Please tell me you punched him in the face or something. God, that kid needs to get a life."

Riza laughed, shaking his hand off her shoulder and nudged him slightly. "I don't punch and tell, Prince. I leave that for the rest of the world to talk about."

Roy smirked and watched as a sweet, mousy young woman walked in. Her brown hair was cropped just above the shoulders and she wore a black pencil skirt with a maroon oxford shirt. She couldn't be much older than twenty two.

"Hello class, my name is Sciezka, and I will be your professor for this semester. I am very new at this whole teaching thing, so please, let's make this fun. I am very much into discussing a work of literature as a small group and truly digging into the work. I think that way everyone will learn, versus worksheets."

The class breathed a collective sigh of relief, realizing there was not going to be nearly as much written work as originally expected. Sciezka walked over to her desk and rattled off attendance and then quickly proceeded to hand out novels to everyone.

Riza smiled, adoring in the book she was handed, Pride and Prejudice. She looked over at Roy who seemed to be quite pleased with the novel choice as well.

"I figured since it is the start of the year, we'd start with something that was light and romantic," Sciezka beamed at her students. The class went on to indulge in some awful icebreaker games until class was over.

"Don't forget class, chapters one and two read for tomorrow! I want to get right into it," Sciezka yelled as the class filtered out.

Roy ran to catch up with Riza. "So Princess, excited to read this book?"

"I've actually read it before, I'm a sucker for romance novels, especially Jane Austen's writing."

"As silly as it is, me too," Roy answered with a sweet grin slipping onto his face. He looped his arm with hers, and quite literally, swept Riza off her feet and into another direction. "Silly Princess, orchestra is this way."

Riza blushed and quickly took her arm back, but secretly was thanking him for keeping her on track. "Thanks Roy. So what do you play?"

"Cello, it's such a beautiful instrument. And let me guess, you play…viola?"

"Good guess, but no. I play violin. It has such a grace to it. I love that the most," Riza answered simply.

"Damn, normally I'm pretty good at guessing those things. Normally the demeanor of a person gives off what they play."

"Well, maybe I'm just not that easy to read."

Roy smirked at her sassy attitude and led her to the room. Doing the gentlemanly thing, he held open the door for her, allowing full access to the chamber of people to see her being doted on by Roy. Whispers erupted in the room of the scene that had just unfolded in front of them and Riza blushed, but stood tall in the face of these people. They were just people after all. She took her seat by the violinists and Roy took his by the cellists, but before out of sight, he gave a slight smile to Riza. This class simply consisted of another awful round of icebreakers, but they weren't so bad this time people in orchestra were very open about themselves and very open to Riza. She knew right off that she was going to love this class more than any of the others.

By this time, lunch had made its way around. Everyone made their way to the mess halls. It was nothing too interesting, fancier food than regular schools but not by much. Riza took her seat with Ed and Al and others. Everyone shared stories of the day's adventures. Riza laughed hard listening to Ed's colorful descriptions of his classes and professors. He was not shy about his true feelings on anything.

"Don't burst a blood vessel Fullmetal, you have an exam to take right after this. We don't want you missing that now do we," Roy stated calmly, trying to get Ed to take a breather.

"Oh that's right," Ed, Al and Eli all yelled together. They all quickly whipped out books and started madly cramming before the "doomsday exam" happened. Roy took a deep breath and silently started reciting chemical compounds, mixtures and reactions to himself. He knew he was ready for this despite what the knot in his stomach to him.

Once lunch finished up, the hallways were clear of about half the student body as they were all hold up in rooms taking their exams. For the rest of the students, the day was much like the latter. It was crammed with awkward greetings and icebreakers, homework getting assigned instantly, and syllabi being handed out left and right, but at least this time Riza had Rebecca firmly planted at her side.

"Oh god, I'm so happy that's over," Rebecca cried as they finally left the marble building and started on their way to the car that was, of course, waiting for them. The two girls piled into the car and drove off.

"Doesn't Maes come with us," Riza asked, puzzled by the missing body.

"Nah, he's recently taken to walking his 'OH SO LOVELY GRACIA' home. It's pretty cute actually."

Riza nodded and the two girls went into gossip mode about the day's adventures. Riza dished all about the Kimblee incident. Rebecca made a gagging gesture every single time Riza mentioned his name. Clearly his reputation precedes him.

The two girls finally made it home and separated to their respective rooms so they could get some homework taken care of without the distractions of each other.

Riza plopped down onto her bed and laid there for a good five minutes before she realized she had a lot of work to do. She threw her book bag onto her dresser and piled out her books and papers, reorganizing them into neat little piles. Before she got to her homework, however, she spotted the envelope her mother has given her. Riza dropped everything and cradled the letter in her hands. She carefully read over the elegant scrawl that covered the otherwise plain envelope. She cracked the seal on it and gently pulled out the letter, carefully unfolding the piece of white parchment.

Dearest Riza,

I hope your first day at the academy was wonderful for you. My dearest, I am so sorry to be saying this to you, it truly breaks my heart to tell you this. Your father and I have to keep you in Amestris. Please understand, you are staying there for as long as we decide. Allucah is about to break out in war with the East. Berthold and Anthony discussed it and they promised to keep you safe as they both decided it would be safer for you in Amestris. Anthony will do all in his power to protect you, not only as a king but as our friend. They will take great care of you dearest. I know this is hard to comprehend, but I promise you it is for the best. I will try and send more updates on what is happening. Please understand why we are doing this Riza, your father and I love you and miss you terribly. Do not write back. We will write to you if we can. Keep yourself safe Riza, keep your friends close, and never lose faith in Amestris.

With all of my love

-Mother

Riza felt her whole head start to spin and her heart was racing madly and then nothing but darkness enveloped her and her limbs gave out and she felt herself crash to the floor heavily.
