William took Lizzie's hand and led her out to the floor. He pulled her into his arms and wrapped his arms around her tightly. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled his mouth down to hers. They pulled apart and smiled at each other. A beat started and Lizzie instantly realized the song the two of them had chosen had been changed.
"When you feel like love is never knocking, knocking at your door."
Lizzie and William laughed as Better Days started to play over the speakers.
"Why didn't we pick this to begin with?" Lizzie rested her forehead on his chest as they took positions and started to sway back and forth.
"Maybe because this was the song that was behind our first dance." William spun her out and pulled her back in.
"Well if you had pulled these moves out..." Lizzie smiled up through her lashes.
"Maybe if I had done a lot of things differently." He spun her under his arm and pulled her back to his front.
"I thought we talked about this." Lizzie laughed as William spun her back into position.
"We have. Several times. I just cant help feeling-"
"Stop it. I love you and thats all that matters tonight. Nothing that happened in the past and nothing that will happen in the future."
"How are you so smart, Lizzie Bennet-Darcy?" He kissed her nose.
"I could ask the same to you William Darcy."As the music slowed to the last notes William smiled mischievously at Lizzie as he pulled her close so every inch of their bodies touched. She bit her lip and gasped as he dipped her and one of her feet came off the ground. He pulled her back into his arms and kissed her one more time before the floor flooded with party goers. They weaved in and out of dancers until they reached a dark corner to have all to themselves.
"Are we going to fake text?" Lizzie teased.
"Among other things..." William pulled her up so she was lightly standing on the tops of his feet.
"What other things?" She whispered.
William leaned close to her mouth and right before their lips touched. She hated having to be patient like this. "This." He closed the gap and kissed her soundly. He picked her up off the ground and she let her feet dangle as she locked her arms around his neck. his grip around her waist tightened as he supported her weight in his arms.
"So much better than fake texting." Lizzie breathed a laugh as they broke apart.
"I find I agree with you." He smiled at her and held her close to his chest. "I love you, Lizzie."
"I love you, too, Will."
"Hey, Lizzie. What are you and your hot piece of mancake doing lurking in the corner?" Lydia interrupted their silence.
William and Lizzie looked at her and replied in unison, "Fake texting."
"Okaay..." Lydia shifted uncomfortably. "Its time for the father-daughter dance." And with that she ran away.
William and Lizzie walked back into the real world and he handed her to her father. He led her to the middle of the floor.
"Somewhere, beyond the sea. Somewhere, waiting for me."
"Its our song dad." Lizzie smiled and hugged him tightly. They started dancing back and forth and Lizzie sensed something was wrong. "Dad, whats up?"
"I'm gonna miss you, Lizzie." He sighed.
"I'm gonna miss you too. You'll always be the first man in my life, don't worry. Dad, earlier you said time to give away another daughter. I'm the first one to get married." Lizzie's smile was vanishing.
"I feel like I gave Jane away to New York." Lizzie finally understood.
"Well, you still have to give her to Bing. And you know she came home as often as she could." She rubbed her hand up and down his arm.
"Stop fussing over me. This is your day." He kissed her forehead. "I love you Liz-Biz." Lizzie smiled at the use of her oldest nickname that she demanded people stop calling her.
"I love you too, Daddy-pop." He laughed and kissed her again as the song ended.
Lizzie and her dad left the floor before it flooded again and walked her over to William. "You had better take care of her, or I will send you to an 8th level of Dante's Inferno." He looked William dead in the eye as he held out his hand.
"I wouldn't dream of not taking care of her." William took the outstretched hand without flinching.
"Besides dad, if he does hurt me in some way, you'll have to wait until I get done with him." She wrapped an arm around William's waist.
"Be afraid, son. Be very afraid." Mr. Bennet smiled and laughed softly before making his way over to save Jane from his wife.
William took Lizzie's hand off his waist and turned her so they were facing each other. "You know I would never hurt you Lizzie. If I ever do I don't know how-"
"I will forgive you. And I know you. Like Fitz said, you take care of the people you care about. I know we wont always be at are best, but we will work through it. Because thats what we did to get here. Our bumpy start will help us." She pulled him back towards her using the lapels of his jacket. "Now can we go fake text some more?"
"As amazing as that sounds, we have other obligations to meet at the moment." He looked at the dance floor and sighed.
"I suppose your right." She sighed and laced their fingers together. "I'll tell you when you start entering agoraphobic-robot-lobster mode. Okay? Lets just go have some fun." She flashed a brilliant smile and gave his hand a light tug.
After three dances, Fitz took to the mic one more time. "Yo! Clear the floor please! Its time for something very dear to my heart. Lizzie will you join me on stage?" Lizzie bit her lip as she let go of William. "And Darce, could you find a chair please?"
Lizzie got up on the stage and Fitz kissed her on the cheek. "Single ladies, please take to the floor." Lizzie moaned, realizing that this was the bouquet toss.
oOo
"Lizzie, you must remember to throw the bouquet at Lydia." Her mother's southern drawl rung in her head.
"Mother-"
"And you must tell that Mr. Darcy to invite some of his handsome, rich, single friends to the wedding."
"Mother-"
"Then tell him to aim your garter at one of them. I want Lydia to have a man of her own."
"Mother! I will do no such thing."
And with that, Lizzie stormed out of the kitchen.
oOo
Lizzie had her back to the hoard of single women behind her. She didn't care who caught it. No matter who it was, she was keeping her bouquet. She was going to dry it and display it in their home. And no one was going to stop her. She flung it over her head and turned around. She shook her head and laughed. "Ladies and Gentlemen, GIGI D!" Fitz laughed away from the mic.
Lizzie saw the panic grow on William's face. Lizzie stepped off the stage and stood in the middle of the middle of the floor. William was frozen in place. She wiggled her index finger and William grabbed a random empty chair on his way to her. His look made her insides jump backflips and she giggled playfully as he reached her, letting the chair go a few steps before he grabbed her waist. He kissed her and the somewhere, a whistle escaped. They pulled away as William helped her down into the chair.
As he pulled he garter off, he smiled cheekily and nonchalantly released it over his shoulder. He took both of Lizzie's hands and they turned to see who would be dancing with Gigi.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, Ben Denny!" William smiled shyly to his feet. He knew Ben, he could trust Ben. And more importantly, Gigi already knew and liked him. He was Gigi's age and worked as a liaison between Pemberley Digital and the government. He didn't have many projects, but the few projects he did have, kept him as busy as William. The two newly chosen dance partners joined Lizzie and William and they danced again. Every so often, they would hear a quite round of laughs come from Gigi and Ben.
"You may have to be careful, Will." Lizzie whispered. "They look like their taking a liking to each other."
"Yes. Well if he wants Gigi, he has to go through me first. I may have to ask your father about the 8th level of Dante's Inferno."
They both quietly laughed and when the dance ended they stayed on the floor for a little bit. Lizzie saw Bing and Jane come up behind Will and they interrupted their dance.
"Darce, I got some bad news." Bing held Jane's hand.
"Whats wrong Bing?" Will's whole body tensed and the two of them stopped dancing.
"So you know how we both thought it would be best if Caroline didn't come?" Jane said quietly.
"Yeah..." Lizzie felt her insides tighten.
A/N:
The song William and Lizzie dance to is called Better Days from Nick Pitera. I think it fits them well.
The father-daughter dance is Beyond the Sea. I think that works well for them too.
Also I know Dante's inferno is only seven levels. My overprotective cousins joke at they'll send anyone who hurts me to the 8th level that is reserved for jerks and asses that break hearts.
Story Note:
I still have a few surprises up my sleeve! This stories gonna get interesting...
Also, sorry if you don't like what I do with Denny.
