Thank you all for your lovely reviews. You're all so kind, I love you all! I just want to restate in this fic, I try to keep Crona's gender as neutral as possible. Please keep that in mind.
With the Innocence of a Child
Ch 7. Hello my love
8 years later...
I still remember. I still remember her smile, and her tears. I still remember the sweet kisses we shared, and the warmth she gave me on those cold nights. I still remember her, the one I loved, the one I'll always love, and I still dream of her. I can't remember her face exactly, it's blurred as though erased by the abuse and experiments, but I can still remember green eyes. Piercing, beautiful green eyes. I keep waking up in the middle of the night, hearing the screaming and begging for me not to go. A lot of the times I wake up crying, the hot tears running down my face as the image of my love running after me. It leaves my heart aching, and I can't seem to forget the pain, no matter how hard I try. She's engraved in my mind, like the scars Lady Medusa leaves on my skin.
"Crona we gotta go!" Ragnarok smacks the back of my head. "Get moving."
"Right okay..." I walk, slowly, not really caring who or what I run into. The dream last night was the worst yet. She held me close, begging me not to go as she sobbed into my shoulder. I promised her I'd come back, that I'd never forget her, that I'd always love her. It ended with her running after me, being held back by someone, screaming my name. When I woke up I screamed a name as well, but I can't remember what I said. It's been eating away at me, what's her name who is this girl, and most importantly why would she love someone like me?
"Stop stumbling about idiot!" Ragnarok scolds, pinching my face.
"Sorry." I mumble, still wrapped up in my own thoughts. Ragnarok huffs, sinking back into my body. I continue to stumble around Death City, hunger and exhaustion taking over.
'Lady Medusa left me on my own again... I don't know how to deal with this, I'm so hungry, she hasn't let me eat in days.' The sweet smells of pastries waft through the air as I past by the venders district. My stomach growls loudly, mouth watering. Then I see a shop with a large man selling taiyaki, and my head begins to throb.
'W-What's going on!?'
Green eyes. Bright smile. Loving touch. Kind laugh. Sweet kisses. Sorrowful cries.
"Crona! D-Don't forget me!"
I clutch my head as I fall to my knees. This feeling hurts more then any beating I've ever received from Lady Medusa.
'What is this!?'
"Stupid, I love you too."
'Stop it.'
"H-he's gonna s-separate us."
'Stop it!'
"I-I know we'll meet again!"
'STOP IT!'
Tears hit the cobblestone streets. I didn't even realize I was crying. No one stops, no one cares, no one wi-
"Are you okay?"
Her voice sounds more mature, but I still know it from my dreams. I look up to see floppy bunny ears, before realizing they're pigtails.
"M-Maka?"
She stares at me, and recognition flashes through her eyes.
"Crona?"
I try to speak but all that comes out is a gurgling noise, so I simply nod. Once I do she throws her arms around me. Wet tears trickle from her cheek to mine.
'Wh-what?'
People stare but don't stop, leaving the two crying children on the streets alone. It's a familiar scene from the time we first met.
"D-Do you remember me?" She murmurs softly. I nod, arms mindlessly wrapping around he waist.
"I never forgot you." I choke out.
"I've missed you so much, I-I..." Maka pulls back to look at me. "I... Still love you."
Her eyes are full of fear and truth, with no doubt for me, I can't believe she doesn't doubt me. She squeezes my shoulders lightly, anxiety undoubtably building up.
I smiled, tears welling up more before falling down. "Stupid, I love you too.
I won't go back. No matter what this time I'll stay by her side. Her hand is held tightly in mine, and I refuse to ever let go.
We sit in the same spot where we were torn away from each other. The water has risen and the ocean reaches for our feet.
"I can't believe I finally found you." Maka mumbled. She laid her head on my shoulder, eyes closed with a peaceful look on her face. "I always hoped I would, but I had my doubts."
"Maka..." I nuzzle her hair with my head. "I missed you."
She turns to face me, kissing me gently. "Do you remember the first day we met?"
I nod. "That man was about to hit me, because he thought he was stealing the taiyaki, then you came over and asked, 'Two taiyaki please.' I was so astonished, I couldn't believe someone would do that for me."
"Why not?" She asks before biting her lip. "Never mind, I think I already know the answer."
I nod. She knows my past, I told her already how Lady Medusa would beat me... But I haven't told her everything.
"It's gotten a lot worst..." I mutter. "She's been doing experiments a lot more frequently, and I haven't had anything to eat in three days."
Maka wrapped her arms around my waist, her head resting on my chest. "No wonder you're so skinny. I-I don't know how, but I'll get you to a better place, I won't let her hurt you anymore."
"Maka... Thank you."
She smiles, taking my hand and kissing the palm. "I promised you didn't I? We protect each other."
"Yeah, we protect each other."
"I have my own apartment now, me and my partner Soul live there together. You can come live with us."
Jealous shoots though me. "S-Soul, the boy with the shark teeth!? Y-you're living with him, a-as partners?"
Maka blushed. "N-Not like that! He's my weapon partner, nothing romantic. After the raid he hit taken back to his parents, and we later met again at the DWMA."
I nod, but keep frowning.
"Crona... You're the only one for me I swear." Her eyes hold that truth to them again. "I love you."
I smile, kiss her lips gently, scared that she'll disappear. "Is this real?"
She holds my a but tighter. "Can you feel my warmth? Can you hear my voice? Do you smell the sea water, and taste the salt? Can you seem how much I love you?"
I kiss the top of her head, smelling the sweet sent of her shampoo mixed with the sea air. "Yes."
"Then it's real."
I sigh in content. I mumble a "Thank you." before letting my eyes flutter shut.
'This is the greatest day of my life. I finally found you... Maka.'
Really fluffy chapter, don't worry it's not over, I plan to write a lot more.
