Riley was less then pleased when Dan sauntered up to his cubicle on monday morning, as if nothing had happened. Riley sighed, as Dan leaned against the partition, studying him. Riley ignored him for a few minutes, hoping he would take the hint and get lost.
"I'm busy," Riley told him. "I need to get my work done."
Dan gave him a smug grin. "What a douche," Riley thought to himself, as he continued typing.
"Look, man. I'm sorry about the video. I thought it would be a funny prank, is all. I mean no harm." Dan said, sounding completely unapologetic.
"It wasn't funny, Dan." Riley told him. "It was embarrassing. I looked completely foolish up there."
Dan shrugged. "Jeez, it was just a joke. Calm down."
Riley stopped typing, and wheeled around to face him. "It was an invasion of my privacy. I never gave you permission to post that." Riley said, glaring up at Dan.
Dan laughed. "Chill out, Poole." He said, walking off. Riley felt a flicker of hatred for his coworker, as he watched the man walk down the hallway.
"Dude, you alright?" Mike asked, wheeling over to him.
"Yeah." He replied, taking a deep breath.
"Sorry about the video. I thought you knew he'd posted it." Mike said. "Shania Twain? Interesting choice. I would've pegged you for a rock fan."
"I didn't choose the song." Riley told him, giving his friend a wry smile. "And I didn't know I was filmed until the next day."
Some of Riley's coworkers hummed the song as he sat in the lunchroom, but after they got no reaction from him, they eventually gave up.
A few days later, Mike Cho and Riley went to the diner down the block for their lunch break. They sat down in one of the booths, and ordered sandwiches and coffee. Halfway through their meal, Mike glanced across the crowded diner.
"Hey, isn't that Dan?" He asked, turning back to Riley. Riley squinted.
"Yeah." He said. "I think it is."
They watched him for a moment, as he put his arm around the blonde girl beside him. Dan said something to her, then kissed her on the lips. Mike and Riley stared at each other in silence for a moment, before Mike pulled out his cellphone.
"Wait! What are you - " Riley asked, as Mike snapped a photo, then took a video of Dan and the blonde woman.
"What does it look like? I'm exacting revenge on Dan. We're gonna send this video to Elise, so she can see what a dick he really is." Mike told him, giving Riley a small smile.
"So we're stooping to his level?"
"Hell, yeah!" Mike said, sending the video to Elise.
When they got back to work, Riley kept himself occupied on his computer. At the end of the day, he was pulling on his jacket, when Elise stormed over.
"What the hell is this?" She asked, furious, her cellphone in her hand. Riley could see the photograph of Dan on the screen.
"I didn't take that." Riley told her, putting his hands up defensively.
"Mike Cho sent it to me, and he says you both saw Dan with another girl in the restaurant. Is this true?" Elise asked him, putting a hand on her hip. Riley looked over at Mike, who was trying to avoid eye contact.
"Yeah." He told her. "We saw him with a blond chick, he kissed her at the diner."
Elise looked really pissed off, like she was about to haul off and punch somebody. Riley took a step back, so he was out of the line of fire.
"Oh, he is sooo dead!" Elise said through gritted teeth, tucking the phone into her pocket. "Come on, Riley. You too, Mike. I'm going to go break up with him."
