Chapter Six

Merida had to admit, she wasn't sure about going home. It had been so long since she had seen her family. Her people. She was a Princess after all. She looked back and saw tears on Hiccup's face, even though he was clearly trying to hide them. She felt terrible for him, he had only just gotten to see his friends and family, now he had been forced to run away from them and leave them to face the King alone.

Rapunzal and Jack were silent as well, as if feeling their friend's pain. Even Pascal was a sad grey/blue color. Toothless seemed just as upset about having to leave Berk behind. Merida looked ahead and saw Dunbroch. "We're here!" she called and felt a shiver of excitement run up her spine. She could see the forest where she used to ride her horse, Angus, and practice archery, she saw the Fire Falls, and the castle, she saw the village and the bridge. She actually wanted to cry when she saw her three little brothers pointing to the dragons.

"Where should we land?" she heard Jack call over the wind. "Down there!" Merida called back, pointing to the clearing where she had climbed the Fire Falls. "We can leave the dragons there and walk up to the castle!" they landed and Hiccup silently hid the dragons in a cave. Through the whole walk, Jack and Rapunzal talked on and off, while Merida remembered the time she had spent here and Hiccup remained silent.

"Are you okay?" Merida asked him. Hiccup shrugged. "Not really." She frowned, but didn't press him any further. "Merida!" she heard a voice call, she looked up and gasped, stopping dead in her tracks. "Mum." She muttered, then starting to run, cried, "Mum!" Elinor ran to her daughter and scooped her into a hug. "Merida," she repeated. "You're back." Merida nodded, without pulling away. She held on for dear life. "Merida!" her father cried as he wrapped his arms around both his wife and his daughter.

Merida's little brothers, Hubert, Harris and Hamish, grabbed onto her skirt as well. Hiccup, Jack and Rapunzal watched in slight amusement at their friend's strange family reunion. Eventually, Merida pulled away. "Mom, dad," she said, gesturing to her friends. "These are my friends; they were all being kept at the castle. They can control different seasons too. This is Rapunzal, she has power over spring and Jack, he has power over winter, and Hiccup, and he has power over autumn. When we escaped we went to Hiccup's home on the Island of Berk but the King came and attacked so we had to leave."

For a couple of minutes her family stood in stunned silence. "Excuse me, your Highness?" Rapunzal spoke up, getting their attention. "We think that the King will realize we're not on Berk and come here to find us." Fergus nodded thoughtfully. "Right you are lass." He said. "We'd better get you to the castle, you should be safe there."

They were led into the castle and were given strange looks from the villagers. Merida assumed that they were right. She and her friends did look like an odd bunch. With their weird hair and clothes. While Merida's parents went off to talk about battle plans in case the King did decide to attack, Merida, Hiccup, Jack and Rapunzal were left to talk.

Merida noticed Hiccup fidgeting with a round black scale. "Is that from Toothless?" she asked. He nodded slowly. "Yeah." He said. "I found it when I first met him." Rapunzal reached over and gripped his hand. "Your friend's will be fine." She tried to reassure. "I just wish I knew." He muttered. Jack gave him a small smile. "I know exactly how you feel." That made all three of them look up. "What do you mean?" Merida asked, but before he could answer, a guard came running into the room completely out of breath.

"Princess Merida!" he called. The four of them ran over to him. "What is it?" Merida asked. "What's happening?"

"The King's here!" the guard told them. Merida, Rapunzal, Hiccup and Jack exchanged looks and all had the same thought. What about Berk?
