Chapter 7

Racing across the land Rin clung onto the Bandersnatch. They were in a major hurry. She really needed to see teh Jabberwocky, something was pulling her towards it. She had left the vorpal sword back at Mamoreal. She had no intentions of harming it in any way. If only she knew why she had such a need to be near the creature.

The sun began sinking over the horizon as the Bandersnatch came to a halt. Climbing off the back of it she petted it on it's head gently. Hurry back to Mamoreal my friend, I must continue this on my own. he gave a low whine but turned and dashed off in the direction it had come. Taking a deep breath Rin slowly made her way towards the darkened cave. A scream filled the air but where it came from she was not sure. Slowly she placed one foot in front of the other. peering into the blackness of the cave she could not see anything. Yet still she was not afraid and slowly she entered.

As her eyes adjusted to the darkness she could see rough outlines on the caves wall. Placing her hand on these walls they began to glow, well rather the pictures on them did. Her eyes followed as the pictures seemed to tell a story and she was soon entrapped with in them. She fell but it did not hurt. Looking around she realized she was watching something from the past. She crept towards the entrance of the cave where she saw a beautiful golden white dragon.

The dragon bowed before a man keeping it's head near the ground as the man circled around it. "You are the one who could never harm anything?"

"I am," it's voice was soft and pleasant as if it were singing.

"then how is it that you have killed?"

"I have never killed anything in all my life."

"You have indeed, my son lies dying of a broken heart because you took a woman far from this land."

"I did take a woman from this land because she begged me to do so."

"Because of this you have killed my son," the man screamed.

"The woman was suffering from your son."

The man turned hatred in his eyes and glared at the dragon. "Your deeds have become your undoing. Never more shall you be one of peace but one of destruction."

The dragon lifted her head in shock and tried to back away. Quickly the man leapt at her and dug a sharp blackened sword deep into her skin. A scream tore from the dragon's throat as she crumpled to the ground. Slowly her skin began to turn a pitch black and she was in pain. "You may have cursed me man, but one day a woman of pure heart will bring me back. A descendant of the very same woman that I have saved from your cruel son."

He laughs at her, "by then your heart will be black from all the misdeeds that you have done."

"It will become pure again when one pure of heart woman sees into my heart and brings the life it will miss back into it."

The man shakes his head, "no one will ever love something so black and evil."

Before the dragon could reply she turned completely black and flew off. For many years she fought the desire to kill and as time would have it slowly she could no longer hold back the anger she felt. Letting her mind go she finally began killing and then earned the title Jabberwocky.

Rin's eyes misted over with tears. how could she hate something like that poor creature. It never meant to do harm in fact she looked around her now and realized that the vision had ended. Turning she heads deeper into the cave and finds the Jabberwocky fast asleep. Not making a sound Rin creeps towards it and wraps her slender arms around its' neck. "I am so sorry for what has befallen you."

The Jabberwocky stirs and snaps at the girl but Rin clings to it's neck. Just as the Jabberwocky rises up and begins running out of the cave a few tears fall from Rin's eyes and land on the Jabberwocky. It stops in it's tracks as the tears begin washing the black from it's hide. Turning and staring at the crying girl and then at it's skin it shakes it head. The girl crys harder now washing more of the blackness away. "i'm so sorry for everything that has happened to you."

The Jabberwocky can not believe her ears, why would a girl be sorry for what happened to her. Rin places her lips gently on the neck of the Jabberwocky and kisses it softly. The kiss sends a chill through the Jabberwocky and it strikes it deep within it's heart. It lets out a startled cry as the darkened heart turns white once more. The Jabberwocky is no more as now a pure golden white dragon stands before the girl who still clings to it's neck.

The dragon lets out a soft purr sound as the child still holds onto it, which startles Rin. Looking up she is surprised to see sky blue eyes staring into hers. "Thank you my child for setting me free," says a soft sing song voice of the dragon.

"How was I able to do that"

"Your pure heart healed my broken one and turned the evil that was upon me away. I am afraid of what I may have done while I was in that state though."

"What you did could not be helped and I know that if you could you would change all of it."

"That I would but since I have done so many bad deeds I must serve the person who set me free."

"You need not serve me good dragon," Rin replied.

"Please my name is Dia. I would be honored to serve such a pure child as you."

"Then please let us just be friends."

"What are friends?"

Rin laughs lightly and sits down against the Dia. "A friend is someone who is always there when you need them. Both for good times and the bad. They are someone you can turn to when you need to talk and someone you can just hang out with."

"Then I would most definitely like to be your friend child."

"Dia, my name is Rin."

"Such a lovely name for a child such as you are."

Rin lets out another laugh and rises up to her feet she begins walking towards the exit of the cave. "Where are you going Rin?"

"I need to get back to Mamoreal, and let everyone know that you are alright now."

Following Rin out of the cave they begin walking side by side. "You know I can fly you there if you like. It would be much faster."

"Really?"

"Yes, my friend."

Rin smiles and walks up to Dia as she lowers her head. "Climb onto the back of my neck and hold on Rin."

Climbing up and holding onto Dia's soft white hair she felt herself rise up as Dia stood and then flapped her beautiful golden white wings. They were soon high above Underland soaring above the clouds. Rin loved the feeling of peace and safety she was getting from being with Dia. Dia loved the feeling of being herself and free once more. Although in the back of her mind she feared that people would hate her for what she had done in the past as her dark self the Jabberwocky.
