If Shaochung so fancied, she could imagine the ceiling staring back at her. It was a nice ceiling and didn't expect her to write on it. There was no blinking cursor to remind her that she had a deadline coming up.

A pink plush bunny was thrust into her field of vision, reminding her that there was someone else in the room. A falsetto voice squeaked, "Miss Shao! Are you gonna play with me today?"

She blinked as Ai retreated to her bed, situated by the computer desk. The sheets needed to be straightened out. "I have a deadline."

"You know," Ai said in her normal, spirited voice, "you should write something in which the princess runs away with the loyal maid instead of the typical prince. It'd be different!"

"It's a children's book."

Ai flashed her that faux-innocent grin. "Which would make it even more different! Girls are so indoctrinated by the message that princesses marry princes that most of our childhood fantasies revolve around it. Then you get poor women staying in relationships and expecting their beasts to turn into handsome princes if they just love them enough. Among others."

"Ai, the activist." Shaochung's fond smile turned thoughtful as an idea came to mind. "You know, I might just run with that. This might take a while."

She was given a genuine grin and Ai bounced out to fetch some tea. By the end of the night, she was glad to end her tale with:

"Though she liked the prince very much, the princess turned down the prince's marriage offer. Her close friendship with her maid was too precious to sacrifice for someone she barely knew!"

An addendum was written on a post-it to convince Takato to draw the final illustration with the girls holding hands.
